@CrystalAmmunition: Woohoo, have fun in Japan!!! :) Carolina said it'll be the cherry blossom season there so I can't wait! The capital punishment and prison system generally is super harsh so don't get into any trouble! Your family won't even know you're executed until the day after AND you can be executed while your appeal is pending! Your family has 24 hours to pick up your body, but most of them aren't picked up.
What was appalling to me, for some reason, was that you can't choose who your clergy person can be when you go to die. It has to be someone from a government approved list. And wardens by law have so much power, even to deny medical treatment, over everything!
And you can be placed into solitary confinement for any reason! WOO! And it can be extended indefinitely! It just seems super harsh, not knowing when you'll die, having to be seated 23.5/7 and not make noise, etc.

YEAH~ I had a great time citing violations of human rights law. There were so many things! Can't wait for our Japan Team meeting tomorrow.

I'm taking a break now... I have to come up with a log line for animation class, but I can't think of anything good. I have my people and how they look like in my head, but for some reason I can't think of some obstacle or "world" they live in. I'll probably ask my classmates for help and develop something better next week XD I'm doing readings online to help me and I'll flip through some old little notebooks from elementary school for inspiration tomorrow.

"sexual harassment expert can't be with man she loves because of sexual harassment policies" - my life
"two friends bond over a surprise orgy at a funeral"
"leg"
"*brain disintegrates*"

ok going to play rainbow six siege to clear my mind

Oh and EMMA HAS AN ANIME SERIES! I'm already in love! I won't watch all of it as I haven't finished the manga, but it's really nice so far.

It's so lovely! And the way people dressed! *drool*

Hmm...my weigh-in is,,,,

Parts of Paris have long had a reputation for smelling strongly of urine, dating back to its emergence centuries ago from swamps adjoining the river Seine.
It's actually most of Paris.

And that is my weigh-in.

Edit: Seriously though, it's not just the men doing it.
And aint no one gonna pee where they're told to.

Someone is stealing from my friends :( After the Admitted Students Day Reception, I went downstairs to the floor that has all the student clubs and journal offices with Mareya and Princess. They've always been nice to me and nerdy.

We first hung out with Shrisha at the corporate law journal (Shrisha is the editor in chief of it) and the four of us went to another room. We got to the BALSA (Black students association, Mareya is the president) office, which is shared with the Latino association, Asian association, Follies, etc.

But I overheard Mareya talking about something and it sounded strange so I headed over to them. Apparently there has been someone stealing from the student clubs for the last week and a half. They took someone's jackets, Shrisha's creams, food and supplies from three clubs/journals, etc. So Mareya found a Word document on the computer she was using that wasn't there before that said, "hey im the thief fuck y'all. i know you're looking for me, but you can't find meeeeee." She got upset about it, especially at how sneaky the person is, and I was totally weirded out.
So we took pictures and went to the security people. Mareya said that she's going to get this person because now she's mad. She also can't believe someone would be stealing from other law students and the clubs like that and said that, "We're POOR."
So the main officer went to the floor with us and asked questions. So whoever wrote the message had to have come from when Mareya left for the reception at 5pm and when we all came back at around 8pm. The officer said there were no cameras in the hallway, just on the staircases and elevator areas. But we'll see what happens.
Unfortunately, it means we'll probably need cameras inside the offices too. And keys. None of the offices have keys.
I hope it gets resolved because these are nerds :(

Anyway, I'm glad I went to the reception! I got to meet admitted students and catch up with Mareya and Princess.

Mareya makes such a big deal about me, especially when she introduces me to people! She's all, "She's the nontraditional law student, and actually very cool, I don't even know where she is half the time or what she's doing, she's in China, going to all these art classes, meeting famous people, EXHIBITIONS, and I'm like, 'I can't even do this reading!'"
Princess went, "So are you actually here now? You're back now?" XD Omg. She told potential students I'm an "overachiever" but a "cool overachiever." I'LL TAKE IT.

We were speaking to one student and the student was asking about whether you have a life during law school and I said you certainly can. Princess said, "Oh, she has A LIFE." XD
Princess said she's scrolling through her phone and she's like, "She’s now WHERE? She met WHO? Oh my God, what."

oh god is this how people see me

BUT I said to the student, I do my work and get good grades and I do other things, it's really what you make of it and time management! I met a bunch of nice students and met professors I didn't even know worked here, haha. This lady professor said she loved the color of my top (a purple color) and we spoke for a while. She was pretty cool. :)

One girl came as a guest of her boyfriend's and she actually graduated from NYU! I said, "CAS?" She said, "CAS" and we SQUEALED. She said, "OMG did you have Christine Harrington?" I SAID YES. OMG Harrington was such a cool old-school feminist who actually borrowed my TOME OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT binder for her research XD She was a really cool lady. Wow, I haven't thought of her in a while.
The girl and I said, "NYU GIIIIIIRLS."

I remember I had Harrington twice even though that's considered a death sentence usually. I got an A- in her first class and I really admired her so I took a second class and DID EVERYTHING I COULD to get an A, and I did! She was super tough!!!

now for rainbow six siege

Someone is stealing from my friends :(

Maybe it's the same person that stole from them before.
You know, the one that a friend of a friend knew, so he gave their stuff back and then went on stealing for other people because no one reported him since they had THEIR stuff back and **** everyone else?
It might be....gosh, I dunno...karma....or something.

Imma be honest, that's been bothering me for years.
It's prolly why I stop reading your posts as soon as it becomes evident it's about your personal life or friends :(
Just can't get on board with the lifestyle and way of thinking, and reading about it depresses me.

XD What? The people got their cellphones back and they chose not to report so...? If it were me I would've reported him anyway even if I got my stuff back, but I don't know, I guess they thought it was all "cool" now? Or maybe they didn't want to cause more trouble? And I met those people at the party and haven't seen them since the party so... I don't actually know anything that happened after that night other than what they said later to others that got back to me. o_O I think you are remembering wrong because I don't know what happened other than what they said, and I'm not sure what that has to do with my personal life because they're not even my friends. I don't even have them on Facebook...
Where is the karma from?? XD Sorry Faith, I don't get your post at all. My actual friends and people I interact with daily are pretty amazing people and I'm grateful for them.

@CrystalAmmunition: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! It's so awesome just to spend a day playing video games~

Thank you. :D

I was hoping to start on Resident Evil VII last night, but I ended up introducing my niece to my favourite odottemita group and watching Ru Paul's drag race videos.

I'm staying for a couple days in NYC right as a terrifying snowstorm is supposedly hitting XD This ought to be good.
I have a SNOW DAY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm so happy because I have so much due Monday/Tuesday so now I have a bit more time. There's a new test for law students to take so I have to finish the 15 hours of videos with questions before I can even register for the test in March. *sigh* So I've been leaving the videos on and looking through the materials to find the answer... >_> Just 13 more videos to go... (If you get a question wrong you have to play the video all over again... which just happened...)
And I have to write a convertible note for my imaginary Chinese animation studio XD In my employee NDA, I made it so that the NDA was between my studio and John Lasseter. Yes.
And I have to write another paper on execution dates in the US. Woohoo XD I really like the team/friends I'm with though. They are so sweet and hardworking. I even hang out with Lisa and have long conversations with her on the death penalty and how sometimes we struggle with our thoughts on it. My professor popped in our team meeting for a moment (she couldn't attend it today) and looked as though she saw heaven when she saw my curly fries. I visited her office afterwards and asked if she wanted a fry and she said, "YES!!!!" :)

Yesterday was this entrepreneur luncheon at my school and it was really nice. They were asking for suggestions how to make things better and I was the last to speak up. I said how I felt isolated during my 1L year in law school especially because I know I am not either on the public interest or big law path, but that's the culture and what's heavily suggested for you to do. But this lady did these "alternative path" events and they were small, but they really kept me going (until I just went my own way and was OK with it). I said how there was one speaker who graduated from our law school who then became a secretary at MTV, then general counsel, and then CEO of Discovery Communications, and then she went traveling as an official with Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State. I thought she was so cool and I hope they can bring back these sorts of events and market them better because there aren't any of these anymore.
I was so nervous speaking because everyone was staring at me! But the student dean said he was happy I shared that and that I have found some community now. The actual Dean asked me about what times are convenient for events and I gave him a "hard time," and I said I was sorry, but he said, "It's okay, I asked!"
The thing is, the entrepreneur events aren't very advertised, especially when compared to the other events on campus. IT HAD TO BE SAID!

Then I was finally able to give a great review at the survey given to us about the study abroad experience. Especially to the question, "How could our office have better helped you?" OH BOY DID I WRITE A LOT FOR THAT. :P
I even included study abroad websites from other NY law schools and how they had housing information, course offerings, etc. I said along the lines, "I cannot help but compare us to other NY schools that have pamphlets, information, and PDFs when ours only has the wrong website." I said, "It is one thing to 'hold someone's hand' and another to have basic care for the students you serve." Our website still has the wrong website up, and I included the right one. I asked why something so simple hasn't been fixed. I asked why our office didn't know what courses were offered. I went on about what other students have said and how we have to think of those who have never been to China before. And so many other things.
I think I'll be burned at the stake.

Yesterday I met with the guy who reached out to me on LinkedIn and he was very nice! He wore a NYU sweater AND sweatpants. NERRRRRRD. We ended up at PJ Clarke's and talked about so many things. China, life here, museums in China, China, China, IP law, events here, alumni events, our classes etc. It was really nice and he seems like an eager beaver. He treated me to a chocolate cake and let me have the leftovers, and that was so nice of him! :) It'll be fun to hang out with him again and meet his friends too! I helped him figure out what kind of events he can plan with his fellow ECUPL alumni here and he said he feels like his mind was opened.

I went to this business reception thing and was only able to catch the last few minutes because my E-Law class ended near the end of the reception. When I arrived everyone was leaving or still in their groups so I stood awkwardly at the bar area.

ok now for more videos and RAINBOW SIX SIEGE YES SNOW DAY WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Caroline's engaged!!! Omg I'm so happy for her!!! CAROLINE IS GOING TO BE A MARRIED WOMAN~~ XD

I'm just so nerdy right now over it! Omg! There's no date set yet, but I AM EAGERLY AWAITING THE WEDDING~~~

I was over at my friend Elizabeth's apartment until nearly 3AM a couple o' days ago and it was so nice XD Towards the end we were getting silly. Anyway, we were talking about editors and people wanting to edit our work and make it something totally different, and I know!
When I was in the screenplay class a couple of weeks ago (we had a snow day so no class last week) I submitted a rough draft of a log line. It's not the final product, but it was just where I was heading with it because I don't know what my heroine's concrete goal is yet.
So we went around listening to other people's log lines/ideas for their stories. Some were interesting and some were confusing to me XD One thing my professor said that was interesting was to not have your protagonist be "too pathetic" or no one will like him. I agreed because a few were pretty bad IMO XD One protagonist was a failing artist with a drug addiction, in a bad relationship, and taking care of her abusive mother with dementia... I thought, "I'm not sure I want to see this animated..." >________>

So we got to mine and my professor really liked what I was doing and said my heroine was sophisticated and aspirational, that whoever was the current "it girl" would have to play her. He said for this to work the two leads need to be great people. He understood that she was questioning her moral compass and everything she believed theoretically before now that she's actually "living it." So he separated my story into four acts as a little guide and it was really helpful for me to think of it that way. He said I have to actually show her living her ideals and figure out a way to do that so it's not just a bunch of conversation or exposition. I need to work on that @.@

(Random but I really want a "ball scene" in my story XD Not a literally a ball, but one of those scenes where you can just SIGH and think it is so beautiful, haha. I think Frozen lacked that so it was not as compelling for me.)

But then it got so weird and over the top. Soon enough the romance became the focal point 100% and my heroine focused on nothing else. But that's not what I wanted for her! I wanted her to be dynamic and inspirational and to go after her dreams. It turned into some Lifetime movie or some cheap film. They suggested like, certain types of villains and scenarios to make it more dramatic, but I don't think this story needs any BWAAHAHAHAA person in it. It started getting cheesy. I was more going for a story where there is no one to direct your anger towards and it is just an unfortunate situation. Or maybe you can only really blame yourself. To me that's one of the most frustrating circumstances and I know the feeling. Either way, I never want to give all the answers or a predictable plot line (no corny villains) to people. It just seemed that once again I was getting feedback to make things obvious. Like when I didn't want to show the woman throwing away the flowers, but my teacher at the time really wanted me to show that. I thought it was more interesting to transitioning to show them already in the trash and zoom out to reveal her.

Someone even suggested a "lusty weekend" between my heroine and my male lead and I said no thanks... There will be no sex in this story... SORRY EVERYONE. :P
Oh god, it was like, "Let's have the characters have a threesome!" all over again. XD

Anyway, my friend Elizabeth said she knows the feeling because her editors sometimes wanted to add a "happy ending" line to her books and she said NO.

OK I'm applying for this photography thing XD I'm scared. Deadline is tonight and I'm finishing the application now and won't know the results for another two months so... Eep.

If you wouldn't laugh at an animated version of this, you have a heart of stone
Bonus points if this turns into a "Mr. Limpet" scenario where he ditches it all to become a fish.

I don't think she was going for an animated comedy though and it was more of a "true life" sort of thing XD So I had to take this seriously as something Disney or Pixar or some big animation studio would potentially do. Which does make me laugh... It just seemed too much! She can have issues and problems, but that's ALL she had!

She didn't have hers workshopped (critiqued) like most of us did so maybe she'll do it this week. I was SO curious about hers because it just sounded so awful (as in, depressing), but then she didn't have it critiqued! I need to know!
(She was the one who suggested my characters have a lusty weekend...)

"From the studio that brought you Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin... a tale of a drug addicted failing artist... a romance going nowhere...and an abusive mother with dementia... coming to theaters 2018."

The other ones were fine, but hers was just so over the top in terms of "bad stuff" XD I was actually worried mine might be too "real," but then I read hers and I thought I was in the clear.

Another one did have a transgender 12 year old girl who suffered from sexual abuse and now has PTSD and gender dysphoria and I forgot the last issue. I don't know, I found hers borderline over the top, but when she workshopped it, she narrowed down the issues, and it did turn out to be more interesting and not too much.
I don't think its great generally though to pile on all the issues onto one character, especially your protagonist, like that.

What was "funny" about that class was that the one who did the transgender 12 year old girl isn't perfect at English (she's from Spain) and the professor didn't understand what gender dysphoria was. He just didn't get it. And the girl couldn't understand his questions about it as well so her workshopping on that point turned into something really odd and the words "gender dysphoria" were put in quotes. So I raised my hand and explained what it was and that it's a real thing, at least so she didn't feel as though she were the weirdo. And I was the Serious Law Student in the class too so I had some credibility here.

going to subway now to get a pizza... YEAAAAH~

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!! YEAAAAAH

I went to see Caroline and I had a great time with her too hanging out at the library. She didn't have her engagement ring because she had to get it resized, aw. She said she's so thrilled though and happy! I'm so happy for her! AHHH.

I went to meet with the old former judge now NYU law professor who graduated from my law school with my fellow mentee Christina, a first year student, and I thought he was interesting, but... First he talked about lower student involvement in the program and why people don't show up as much to the events/mentorship thing, he kept saying he doesn't know why, how we're all so busy blablabla. So Christina and I came up with suggestions and reasons. The main one being that there isn't accountability when the mentorship thing happens. As in, we get assigned to a mentor but the mentor never reaches out and no one forces the mentor to do anything.
So after we said all this he REPEATED WHAT HE SAID AT THE START. It just seemed like a lot of excuses and no action. My respect for him was dropping by the second! Yes, we're busy, but we can make time and anyway, the mentor is the one who signed up for this! We wouldn't have even had the meeting if I hadn't emailed.
He did offer to let us visit him at NYU sometime and just to email him, so that's good.
What really was ridiculous though was how Christina was talking to us about a club she started about religious lawyers and he looked at his phone THE WHOLE TIME. I was actually embarrassed. Then when she finished he looked up and said, "I just got this email about my 30-something anniversary graduating from the law school!"

...

Anyway, Christina and I spoke after he left and we conspired to actually follow through with his offer to visit him at NYU and show this mentorship thing can work! XD I actually apologized to her for his looking at his cellphone while she was talking, I felt like I had to say something about that ::meev::
Overall, it was a good meeting, we spoke about what kinds of things we want to do, advice, career paths, etc. But yeah, Christina and I have some work to do~

Why do I want some Oreos right now...

He said, "I'll show you my favorite facades!"
My favorite facade is the thin veneer of a modern, 21st-century global city, layered over centuries of ongoing squalor and misery. Most people don't notice it on their first visit, but when they do... BAM! They never forget it.
