You know, there is one out-of-the-box solution.... by which I mean an in-the-box solution ::meev::
Just buy a broken karaoke machine and disassemble it!

I'd try it myself because I love a challenge, but I don't really want to pay the ruinous shipping charges for a 10kg package XD

EDIT: found another link and confirmed they just have plain old IDE hard drives inside

Your course of action is clear. :|
Or just buy the disks alone:

Oh my... I had no idea it would be this complicated haha.

Thanks for the links ! Although at this cost (effort wise and price wise) it's just not worth it sadly. Someone has done a midi cover on youtube, I'll just wait eagerly to see if he'll respond to my download link request. Thanks again !

I'm actually trying to get a hold of a set of those karaoke hard drives now, because I love a challenge ::meev:: The latest ones have 130000 (!!) songs on them, which would be pretty cool to have.

If you decide to go the Wii/Wii U/PS4 route, you can always get JoySound; It connects to the Japanese JoySound library and you can sing most of the songs from the JoySound machines at home on your own console for a fee :) It's a good deal though. You can get a subscription and sing all you want for a limited time. It used to have a search feature online where it would show you what songs were available on which console, but the site has been redesigned and I can't find it, so you can try your luck with this Wii U list: http://karaoke.nintendo.co.jp/

If you want to search by Song Title, make sure the 楽曲を探索 field is set to 曲å￾￾ã￾§æŽ¢ç´¢; if you want to search by Artist, make sure it's set to 歌手å￾￾ã￾§æŽ¢ç´¢. If you type in Malice Mizer, to see all the songs available, click the red ã￾“ã￾®æŒæ‰‹ã￾®æ¥½æ›²ã‚’調ã￾¹ã‚‹ to get the list. The Malice Mizer list has most of the big ones, so you too can rock out to Apres Midi or Madrigal in the comfort of your own home and no one will ever know your dark secret.

But it looks like the overseas releases don't have the full selection of Japanese artists, from what I can tell. I'm guessing ::gaku:: is not among them XD
Besides, for the price of a new Japanese PS4 you probably could just get a used karaoke machine ::meev::

Yeah, you do have to have the Japanese console, at least if you're using the Wii or the Wii U... I have JoySound DX for the Japanese Wii and it connects to the Japanese library, but you're right, it all has to be Japanese for that to work ^^;

Having said that, American PS4s can play American and Japanese PS4 games in general because America and Japan have the same region coding for Blu-Ray discs (so you can also play American and Japanese Blu-Rays) but unfortunately, DVDs are still region locked and so PS2 and PS games don't enjoy the same luxury... I think the game is free on the PS Network (you just have to pay for the subscription) but there may be region blocking for ESRB reasons... ^^;

O RLY? Well, good for them for finally ditching region-locking ::k::
I'm out of the loop on this because I only play Nintendo... and gamebooks ::meev::

Yeah, ever since PS3 switched to Blu-Ray discs, PS3 and PS4 is pretty much region free, unless you want to play PS/PS2 games (but I have my Japanese PS2 for that)

I know that there are tricks to unlocking the Nintendo Wii, but I've never tried it ^^;

Sorry ! I had no idea people were actually interested to know (I searched premier amour on this forum and it seemed quite unpopular).
I got it from this youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Wk3MFb5rTs), the poster commented with the download link to a full midi version. It has all the instruments and it's pretty nice.

We were hoping you'd found a secret goldmine of MIDIs ::meev::

EDIT for update: just scored a karaoke hard drive for 1500Y. The UGA/Joysound machines actually seem to have a better selection than DAM for some artists. Watch this space...

Now listen here, this is more of a "Regular Dictionary" kind of place ::ash::

Anyway it seems like the hard drives are "locked" with a password and they have limits on the # of songs and the # of days you can use it... but the drives themselves are standard store-bought hardware so I'm assuming these limits are enforced by the karaoke machine itself. I'm hoping that if you don't care about having the video, words, and music all played for you at once you can just go pull out the files from the disk.
