So yeah, I'd be surprised if anyone hasn't even heard mention of their name anywhere but I'll do a little profile page:

Velvet Eden

Status: Hiatus/Split
Since: 1998~2002

Members-
Vocal: Dada
Keyboard: Kalm

Former Members:
Bass: R.Y.O
Drums: Abexx
Keyboard: Hora (Schwarz Stein)

Full Biography

I had heard of Velvet Eden at the same time I heard Schwarz Stein which was last year, but never really decided to give them a listen until now and I have to say, I don't know why I didn't listen earlier, since they are fantastic <3 The track that really got me hooked was Ikei Hime on Ningyou Shoukan, which I am listening to on repeat at the moment.

So yes.. Discuss Dada and his beautifulness, songs, appearence etc ^o^

Sute-Neko is one of the best songs in their catalog. If it wasn't for that and a handful of others, I'd say they weren't so good.

I preferred SoA and Ningyou Shoukan to Suteneko...they seemed more unique.
IMHO, the best things about VE were Kalm's compositions and Dada's creativity and artistic ability (and what I see as a tendency towards disorder). Their appearance was good in that it was creative. But honestly, I can say that I never found Dada beautiful of attractive. Well, no more so than I would find anyone in polka-dots, miniskirts, and giant goth sneakers/boots

Street of Alice is a pretty darn amazing album. Maze was my star song from the band. Now I pretty much like all of them, including a few of their late demo tapes with Bera and Mimi.

BTW: LMAO @ the Kalm and Beldam comparison. They are frighteningly similar o__o but I love Kalm and his bony face~

Oh, now we have the second Velvet Eden thread! :D

I adore Velvet Eden and so sad because of Dada's retirement.

And I completely agree with faith's words.
Dada and Kalm together could create unique atmosphere of darkness and doom. After Kalm left VE they lost most of their uniqueness and the only interesting part stayed only Dada's voice and lyrics. Though, I like several post-Kalm songs: Rouge de Noire, Kanashimi no bara shouzoku and Kajuen. But my most favorites are from Street of Alice - Doomed Love and La Fin. Ningyou Shoukan I like a bit less because of Dada's voice distortion, though [a lot of dots] and Ikei (or is it Igyou) Hime I like very much.

Velvet Eden is one of my all time favorite bands and they have been for many years.

Personally I think Street of Alice is their best album hands down. Dada and Kalm had amazing chemistry and I think it was especially present on this album (人形娼館 is a good album, but I agree with K-kun about the heavy use of voice distortion; it really takes away from the quality of the songs, in my opinion)

I am very sad that Dada and Kalm are no longer working together, BUT I think they (as a team) stopped while they were ahead, which is in my opinion, why the Kalm era Velvet Eden is so well received. *

*I'm just a humble fangirl, so my opinion is hardly worth much! ::meev::

Yeah, I was on Faith's site but I could only find one Hora-Velvet Eden one. I did check the SS section too... I have one for the Street of Alice" album where all 5 members have the same black hair and makeup as Dada and I was hoping to try and find one like that.

Funnily enough, I got Kaede from BLOOD's appearence mixed up with Hora @_@ I thought it was Hora I saw a picture of from Velvet Eden but it was Kaede in his "Les Fleurs du Mal" outfit (The long white dress) ^^;; Its in the US G&LB 2, I will post scans.

But does anyone see a similarity between the makeup of Hora and Kaede?

Velvet Eden, "la révélation de l'année 2008" as far as I am concerned, and please don't laugh at me, since they disbanded years ago!

"Street of Alice" is no less than a masterpiece to me, I love all songs and can't tire of listening to the whole album. Very decadent, probably, but very well suited to the streak of eccentricity in me. My daughter can't believe I am such an absolute fan of theirs', it makes her laugh so much, but somewhere deep down inside I know she's thinking : "My mom is crazy but I wish I were that kind of "crazy" when I am her age, eheheheh! ;)

I dunno who Kaede is so no comment there~

But as for Hora in VE, I've only seen 4 pics - 2 for the Suteneko CD, one from the promo flyer, and the candid one on my site. The Suteneko ones are on Oasis's. I can't find the promo pic, but they had the same costumes as the first picture.

...did anyone ever figure out which of the necked blue dudes is Hora?

The more I listen to Velvet Eden, the more my appreciation for it grows. Kalm's compositions are really amazing. I haven't found anything else like it. Now if only Dada's voice was nicer ...
