I've never heard of it, had a skim of the Wikipedia page, is it a puzzle-platformer?

I'm probably going to finally get around to playing 'Bravely Second', I bought it when it launched here but never got around to playing it, ideally I want to get it out of the way before the new Pokémon is released, not to mention getting up-to-date on Phoenix Wright for the release of the new one.

Yes indeed, a good one at that.
I'm thinking of translating it, but the text is all done as graphics so I'd actually have to *draw* replacements.

You can add it to the list of things to do, after deciphering those midi files. :P

Are we talking about ROM-hacking here?

Finally started playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and GEEZE OH MAN this game is something else... I rather like the story, but the controls are frustrating. Half the time in an effort to stealthily avoid zombies, I end up running right into them. It's also before RE protagonists stayed together through the game, so Claire and Steve rarely see each other, and the time they are together, you couldn't exactly call the chemistry "sizzling".

"Claire, in the collective 10 minutes we've spent together there was never a good time to tell you, but I love you!"
"I felt the same way ever since you fired at me with a gatling gun!"

The story with the Ashfords was very interesting and twisted though, so I've been enjoying it.

I gave up on those XD I'm pretty sure the data's all compressed somehow (it has roughly equal frequency of all bytes and half-bytes), but I don't know how to uncompress it.

Well, not "real" hacking, just using a tile editor to overwrite the Japanese graphic files with English ones.
The only legitimate ROM hack I've done was to translate "Galious" for Famicom, but I never released it anywhere. Maybe I should - the only translation online is abysmal.

What platform? I picked that up for PS2 not too long ago but haven't got around to playing it yet.

Fun Fact: When I was a little kid I didn't have the games/consoles so I would just look at the pictures in game magazines and make up my own stories and scenarios for the game. So to my 5/6 year old mind Resident Evil 2 was about a girl and boy who like bringing guns and knives to school everyday and then one day zombies happen so they have to survive now.

I gave up on those XD I'm pretty sure the data's all compressed somehow (it has roughly equal frequency of all bytes and half-bytes), but I don't know how to uncompress it.

Might as well, I've never heard of it but the cover looks sick! Although I'm not a big fan of the NES-era, I need that little bit extra fidelity that the Super NES brought in. That said, Galious does look pretty cool, but I might be looking at screenshots for a different platform.

This is my edit of it for the translated copy:

Blurry picture but wtvr ::teef::

Also on the topic of games, my order of these came in today:
http://www.play-asia.com/retro-receiver-for-snes/13/70a2f9

Both of the 8bitdo Bluetooth receivers are absolutely worth getting, if your house is bigger than the standard Japanese shoebox. I'd love it if they came up with one for the 15-pin Famicom expansion port.

I got the PS3 version (so basically the PS2 Code: Veronica X PS2 version, but ported).
It's pretty fun, but I feel like the zombies are too strong and take too much to kill. Also, Claire already went through an entire game of this 3 months ago, so she should know better than to follow my directions.

The game hits on one of my biggest grievances of the Resident Evil series. It starts you at one end of the stage (Point A). Then you must travel to the opposite end of the stage (Point B), dodging and battling zombies and dogs along the way. Then you get an item at Point B that requires you to backtrack all the way back to Point A to use the item, and that gives you an additional item that must be used at Point B. Then you travel all the way back to Point B to use your new item, which will open the path to Point C. All the backtracking gets tedious and monotonous. And that's if you go directly where you need to go and don't get lost along the way. ::zetsubou::

Say what you will about Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6, but this was one problem they conveniently solved ::eat::

So you loaded your own version onto the original cartridge? I didn't realise that was possible.

How do those wireless receivers work? I can't work it out just from looking at it.

Stumbled across this today - http://nichegamer.com/2016/08/16/th...haydee-comes-to-steam-with-impressive-assets/ the game actually looks kinda cool.

Not the original, the mask ROMs can't be overwritten. (and besides the original wasn't an American cartridge) You can get supplies to make new carts here:
http://www.infiniteneslives.com/nessupplies.php
And the writer here:
http://www.infiniteneslives.com/kazzo.php
The only trick is you have to know what kind of board to use for the particular game. This particular one was a UNROM flashcart.

It's Bluetooth, you use it with the corresponding controller:
http://www.play-asia.com/8bitdo-snes30-gamepad/13/70a2c7
They also work on PCs or phones or whatever else can use Bluetooth.

Pro Tip to anyone thinking of buying one: the SNES controller is a better replica than the SFC, but both are really good as third-party controllers go.

I've been fully devoted to Star Ocean (5): Integrity and Faithlessness for the past 2 weeks. Currently at 95% completed sidequests and almost at the end of the main story.

IMHO I have to say it's one of the best RPGs I've played in a while, the battle system is just addictive, even though I'm only playing with the main character 'cause I see the mages (which I always play with) as really slow casters and they are better off AI controlled for healing/resurrecting taks.

I use the crossbow guy on boss fights to have more control of the battlefield but it's quite boring XD

I really recommend it to whoever has a PS4 and hasn't bought it yet, the visuals are stunning and the game looks very polished, which is something rare nowadays, dunno why...

I've been playing Elder Scrolls Online lately. It came out some time ago so I'm late to the game (hahahaha), but I decided to try it out.

It's been super fun. I was a bit antsy at first when I saw the reviews on Amazon. Many people left negative ones because "IT'S NOT SKYRIM!!!111" or I don't even know what else.

It's been pretty enjoyable and I enjoy it even more than Skyrim at times. I like that it's an MMORPG, but you can also play on your own and not have to interact with anyone, which is what I do. But because there are other people you can do quests at the same time and it's a nice little boost. It has loads of places to explore, the graphics are beautiful, and the fighting is challenging (I've already died several times in intense battles!). I'm really liking the variety of monsters and things that can be done with magic too. You can level up in all sorts of things and there are TONS OF QUESTS.

The quests are a lot of fun and challenging, especially when it comes to the decisions you need to make that usually come with consequences. I agonize over those especially.

"MY PREGNANT WIFE OR MY SOLDIERS?!" -- things like that.

But you get attached to the people you meet along the way so it makes it a bit harder than usual. The stories behind each quest are really well-done IMO and no quest feels repetitive (as I find sometimes happens with Assassin's Creed).

You can interact with many non-player people and as you level up you can get better armor too and even animals/creatures that help you fight. There are different ways to make money (selling, completing missions, doing writs, crafting, etc) and hopefully I can afford to buy the horse I want someday. ::batsu::

My friend's friends were about to give me 42,000 gold to buy the horse I like after I pointed it out and gushed over it, but I said NO! I want to earn it! They said I'll get a huge feeling of satisfaction when I finally get there.

There's also a lot of lore, jokes, and things that are connected to the other games, but if you're a first-timer then it won't be a big deal to you XD But I find myself going, "Omg, I remember that place!"

There are also Player vs. Player campaigns, but I haven't done those. It's the only time you can kill other players and you go against factions you're not allied with. I'm a gorgeous Breton allied with the Dagerfall Covenant. ::batsu::

I'm so close to finishing Hakkun ::batsu::
9/10 Extra levels unlocked, 7/10 completed
8/10 Battle levels found and completed

The official high score records are here:
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/n02/shvc/bshj/iben.html
I'm never making it on there ::meev::

EDIT: unlocked the last Extra level tonight

I finished up Hakkun (putting me in the elite of the elite)... but then accidentally fried my cartridge's memory so now I have no proof other than a cell phone screenshot ::batsu::
Next, I'm translating the game :|

Also got in the new "Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice" which is surprisingly well done. Much better than "Dual Destinies". The pseudo-Nepalese setting is well thought-out, and I like it when they occasionally take the series in a more serious direction, like they're doing here. And it's particularly rare to see a translation that's noticeably excellent.
Recommended if you like the series (but if not, try one of the earlier installments for like $1 first XD)

How does it hold up to the first three? I never really got around to playing anything after that (apart from Edgeworth Investigations, which I enjoyed). Would I be missing out on anything in the story?

I'd say it's up there with the original 3, and definitely better than "Apollo Justice" or "Dual Destinies". The cast of characters still isn't as memorable as the original series though. As far as missing out: I guess you missed the whole story of how Phoenix got an adopted daughter and two apprentices, but I assume you could pick up the gist of it on the fly. The second case (of the 3 I've finished so far) is focused on the daughter.

I was so eager to pick it up when it was first announced, I was planning on pre-ordering it, but it looks like they decided to do digital only here in the end. I don't know if I should get it now or later, I finally started Bravely Second and it is absolutely beautiful, but I don't know how committed I am to playing a huge JRPG really...

I've also been eyeing off 'VA-11 Hall-A' on Steam as well.

Do you have any of the consoles? Are you going to be picking up VR? I'm considering pawning my PS4 towards the release date of the PS4 Pro and upgrading.

Geez try to put SPOILER WARNING next time ::meev:: I'm a huge fan of the series but haven't played anything past Apollo Justice and I don't even have the 3DS. I'm glad to see it's still going strong though and hasn't lost its overall quality.
