The general gist is that the protagonist, Oscar de Jarjayes, is a woman who was raised and lives as a man in 18th-century France, and becomes a bodyguard to Marie-Antoinette. She winds up participating in most of the historical events and interpersonal drama of Louis XVI's reign and downfall. It's actually reasonably historically accurate other than the original characters that were added.

Also: I put in "Is It Wrong To etc etc" into Google Images and I am far from reassured that this isn't some harem thing XD :|

Would you believe I still haven't got around to watching this yet?

In the mean time I watched all of KanColle and Madoka Magica (and the movie)! I will get to it eventually!

I finally got around to watching 'The Craft' a few nights go, which was good fun. Not too sure what to make of them re-making the film though.

I'll get to it!

Currently watching 'Elvira: Mistress of the Dark', I've been wanting to watch this one for years but hadn't had any luck tracking it down! I asked in a video store not too long ago and the clerk just gave me a blank stare.

Don't know if I already posted this, but I saw "Tangerine" and it's a film about two transgender prostitutes in California. The two leads are actually transgender prostitutes so this was just them playing themselves. It was really interesting and I liked the ending. It was also all filmed on an iPhone so that makes it extra cool! This allowed the crew to be more stealthy and blend in.

Yesterday my class was shown the short, "Actresses." The main character, an actress starts dating another actress and the story goes from there.
Things start going downhill because actress A (the main character) feels insecure about her acting and B (the girlfriend actress) says she IS great. A thinks people don't actually like her, like there's some underlying meaning when the director said she was awesome. B said she IS great and wishes A would listen for once. B notices that A actually doesn't fully listen to people and has gotten self-absorbed. This leads B to getting upset because A doesn't listen or ask about what B is doing with her life.

I won't reveal more, but my class made fun of A a lot and they didn't understand why B stuck by her.

A has a self-esteem problem and so I felt compassion for her. She won't listen because she doesn't think she's great herself so of course there has to be some underlying meaning and the person actually dislikes her. At the same time when A feels insecure/anxious she wants reassurance and will talk a lot but won't listen. Who knows why A is like that, could be from someone treating her badly before, some lame comment she received, hot/cold parents, etc.

Sometimes I think you need a person to bring it up to you or then you'll never change. I feel like sometimes years ago I didn't really fully "listen" to Richard saying nice things to me, because I didn't believe them, until he was like, "omg" XD Once I even asked if he could repeat some words to reassure me and he said he'll never mind doing that. After I finally learned to really trust and "listen" that's when I totally relaxed and I haven't had a problem since. I still have moments though where I think that some people don't actually like me, but now I'm aware and I ask myself if that's just me or they actually did/say something to give me that impression or did I do something to them that was awful. XD

So, yeah, it's a nice, subtle little short.

Might watch 'Pet Semetary' tonight, also considering watching Carl Sagan's 'Cosmos' again sometime.

OMG did you see the new Cosmos series?! I haven't seen the Sagan ones, but I love the Tyson ones. Now I go to his StarTalk Live! shows whenever I can and now I've met Tyson twice. Unfortunately the next one is literally the day after I arrive in China ;__;

I can't wait until Season 2 ::batsu:: I rarely follow shows that come out with an episode every week, but this is an exception XD (Along with Empire!)

I've only seen the original, I'm not a fan of Tyson so I never checked it out.

So October is upon us! What have you been watching to celebrate it? Sitting down (hiding behind the couch) with Dario Argento's 'Phenomena' tonight!

Random movie thought: I've always really admired the wife of Mathew Brady in the 1960 movie "Inherit the Wind." During the last cross-examination the tide turns against his favor and I admired how supportive she was, just going up to him and saying it was time to go home, without judgment. How later at home she was understanding and comforted him. Then right after Brady pretty much gets humiliated while saying his speech, which no one listens to, in court towards the end, there's a shot of his wife in the audience, and I never forgot how she looked. I've always wanted to be like her.

That was actually the biggest thing I got from that movie, "I want to be like her," and the one shot I remembered, haha.

Popped up some popcorn and about to watch the original "King Kong", which I'd never actually seen :|

I've heard that it and the sequels are all great!

I'm thinking of watching 'The Phantom of the Opera' today, the Lon Chaney one. :)

This is a wonderful film! The visual effects are a ton of fun, and it inspired an entire movement of cinema. It's a very simple story, but it's not a film that really needed over complicating. There's also a deleted scene of the explorers being ripped apart by giant insects that didn't survive, but Peter Jackson did a more than decent job recreating it as a special feature. It's highly enjoyable :)

If you can find it, there's a version that has the masquerade scene revitalized with color where artists painstakingly recolored the prints by hand, and it looks fantastic!

Got in the "Outlaws of the Marsh" DVD set last night:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032RIRMG

I watched the first episode, and the production values are actually pretty impressive - way more extras, sets, and stunts than you'd expect from some TV show.

Anybody watching "Lucifer"? It's got a pretty cookie-cutter network format but the concept is good. The concept is excellent, actually. Too bad they're on network and can't go as dark as they SHOULD go with it. But it's fairly entertaining and I like watching for the snippets of what *could* be. Probably to use for myself later in other creative projects. xD

Also, my god please go out and see 'Eagle Huntress' when it comes out after Nov. 2nd. It's REALLY GOOD. It's a documentary film about a young girl in mongolia who became, during the course of filming, the first (grudgingly) accepted female eagle hunter. It's beautifully shot and the story is just excellent. I really recommend going to see it if it pops up near you. :,)

I've never heard of it, what is it about?

So was the girl already training to become one, or did she did it for the movie?

Is this new? I think I heard about that girl years ago, I've seen the pictures of her with some eagle the size of a 747 XD

Lucifer: The devil gives up hell to become a successful bar owner in LA and ends up tagging along with a hot cop who hates him solving crimes around the city which, well, he generally accidentally had some indirect hand in. Meanwhile god keeps sending angels to try and convince him to go back to hell and do his job. Probably better than how I'm describing it. xD

Eagle Huntress: She was already in training. The thing was shot on less than a shoestring budget and everything that ends up happening in the film is just incredibly serendipitous. It's really worth seeing. There are already some trailers up on youtube if you're interested but I rate them maybe 6.5/10? Not the best trailers. But the film is excellent.

@Flowers: Yeah, it was shot 2014-2015 and started the film festival rounds several months ago but it's only just being released publicly. The director found out about her to begin with from a BBC piece done about her because her training was stirring up local controversy. He ended up running into a cousin of the family when he got to Mongolia who introduced him and literally day one for this poor guy was "Oh, well, we were gonna go up and see if we couldn't get her first eagle today- you wanna come?" and of course he jumped. Seems the entire filming of the thing was like that, haha.

EDIT: Actually the trailer's garbage. *I* could cobble together a better trailer. The film is fine, though. xD

I just saw, "Life, Animated," a documentary, and it was REALLY, REALLY good and I would even say beautiful. I don't know how else to sum it up other than my mom and I going, "Wow" at the end of it. It was really, really incredible. We happened to see the premiere on A&E and my mom thought the title sounded interesting and we only saw one sentence in the "info" section so we didn't have expectations. We're really glad we saw it! Here's a synopsis though:

At three years old, a chatty, energetic little boy named Owen Suskind suddenly stopped speaking and disappeared into autism. Almost four years passed and the only thing that seemed to engage Owen were Disney films. Then one day, his father donned one of his son's puppets - Iago, the wisecracking parrot from Aladdin - and asked "What's it like to be you?" Suddenly Owen responded to his father using dialogue from the movie.

Directed by Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams, Life, Animated tells the remarkable story of how Owen found a pathway to language and a framework for making sense of the world through Disney animated films. By evocatively interweaving classic Disney sequences with verité scenes from Owen's life, the film explores how identification and empathy with characters like Simba, Jafar, and Ariel create a context for him to understand his feeling and interpret reality. Beautiful, original animations further give form to Owen's rich dialogue with all the Disney classics as he imagines himself heroically facing adversity in a tribe of sidekicks. With an arsenal of narratives at his disposal, Owen rises to meet the challenges of adulthood in this moving coming-of-age tale.

I don't even think this synopsis does it justice because at its core it is about Owen, but I don't know what else to copy and paste here. Or maybe this?

A coming of age story about a boy and his family who overcame great challenges by turning Disney animated movies into a language to express love, loss, kinship and brotherhood.

It was interesting to see someone going through adulthood with autism, going from childhood to living on his own, and I can't imagine the heartbreak for the parents too. But the movie made you think about moving on, coming of age, "growing up," preparing for the future, things like that, and just one person's experience with autism. My mom and I went from being OK to being a mess throughout the movie, haha.

(And personally, it cemented my feelings for Disney and animated films and their importance. It was really inspiring and I was all, "I CAN'T! *tears*". It's just amazing to see the scenes you know so well being interpreted by someone else. And again, I relate to Disney films too ((or I bring Disney into MY life)), especially certain scenes, so I didn't think this idea was wild.)
(I also just want to say that Owen is a true Disney fan and he is hardcore. I need to step up my game.)

Anyway, great film, highly recommended!
