Hard to recommend any specific piece as I have no idea what they're even called :D Sadly, it's surprisingly difficult to find audio or video recordings of these things in the west.
Farewell my Concubine is probably the most well known in the west, because of the 1993 historical film, starring Leslie Cheung, named after the play. Not gonna lie, that's how I got into Peking opera as well.

Honestly, I would probably recommend that film first. They play out some short opera scenes in the film. If you like what you hear, check out the real thing then. The film itself is probably one of the best films ever made and Leslie Cheung was 10/10 in it. Though I should probably warn you that you will cry for days after watching it as it is quite possibly the most heart wrenching film I've seen at least.

Anyway, here's something I love, but all of my friends consider intolerable

I cleared House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn with a friend recently. It was a lot shorter and easier than I had expecteded it to be, but I still enjoyed it. However, I can't quite work out how I feel about the shooting. In the older games there were fewer enemies on the screen and it felt a lot more 'precise', but this time the screen is flooded with so many hordes of zombies it seems all you need to do is aim at roughly where the heads are and then spray left and right, which will take out almost everything.

Recently played through: Heroland - which has a bunch of "Mother 3" veterans on-staff. It's a very funny game, with that Mother-esque sort of combination of sentimentality and grime, but the actual gameplay is kind of boring. For the most part you can play it while doing something else XD

Next up: "Final Fantasy 12". I'm going in blind on this one, got through the tutorial and did the first couple quests so we'll see what I think of it.

And aside from that: did y'all know that they're reprinting a lot of the old Falcom classics that were only released on unloved Japanese PCs? I'm getting a copy of DRAGON SLAYER CHRONICLE:
https://www.amusement-center.com/project/egg/special/package_dragonslayerchronicle/
Including the "Dragon Slayer" and "Xanadu" series. I assume these are emulated rather than ported, but in the case of PCs it's acceptable.

They did a similar box for the "Sorcerian" series but I don't have any particular affinity for that.

I'm gonna be selling my and my big brother's old video games. Dreamcast, N64 and GameCube. Feels kinda bad I guess, but what's the point of keeping that stuff when I never play it.
Though I was planning to keep my old NES and the handful of games I have for it. I managed to buy a physical copy (repro cart) of the original uncensored Monster Party game with English subtitles. How rad.

Kinda funny to think now that the original was too gory to be released. Times were really different back then after all.
Just look at the bloody title screen!

I've been contemplating selling my N64 for some pocket-dough... but then again ya never know when yer gonna get an itch to play Banjo-Kazooie again (w/o buying an Xbox One like some kinda chump)...

Plus, it was also a birthday gift 4 years ago, I don't think I could part with it in any way in my good conscience.

Is that game any good? You're not the first person I've heard speaking fondly of it.
It's a fun game, but it sadly has some bullshit level design in the later stages, as usual for old famicom games.
In every level there's boss rooms where you have to defeat pretty cool looking bosses in order to finish the stage. However, in one level you're not supposed to kill a certain boss or you won't be able to exit the stage. The game doesn't tell you which boss it is either, so, kinda sucks. Then there's a warping door level where you have to memorize which door takes you where. It's the same kind of bs that ruined Super Mario Bros towards the end.
Other than that, it's a fun game.

This cartridge of mine that is based on the original Japanese prototype has all the copyright infringing bosses still in it. Shame they had to remove those when the game was released in the west.
Also, note the boss that you don't even have to fight because he's already dead.

You have to sign in, though, but still.
Time to waste hours of my life on this stupid thing and laugh all by myself

If you're looking for a text adventure to play in the browser, I suggest the real thing.

"Wonderland" and "Guild of Thieves" are the best.

The auto-mapping doesn't seem to exist in the online version though, so keep a pen and paper handy if you go that route.
Or buy the "remaster": https://strandgames.itch.io/the-guild-of-thieves

Anyone seen "World of Horror"?
http://www.wohgame.com/
I tried out the demo and it looks pretty cool, even though I'm not specifically a fan of Junji Ito-style spookery.

Does anyone have any experience with Sega Saturn S-Video cables? The official ones are a little hard to come by, but I have seen good reviews for the Retro-Bit cables. They seem to be quite cheap on eBay which makes me wonder if people are just selling those tacky unbranded combination cables that output the composite signal through the S-Video port in imitation branded boxes.

2 months later the Ebay seller said "lol never mind, can't mail it because of the pandemic". ::hora:: At least I got my money back.

Next up is "Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War", which I'm forced to play on emulator because the fan translation seems to be utterly impossible to run on real hardware.

Rimworld! I really can't stop playing this blasted game, it's rather addicting. AND the music is quite good.

Acquired Devil's Crush (or Devil Crash in JP) on my WiiU... Turbo controls did not convert well, and even though I suck at pinball anyways, it's mighty addictive and brings back childhood nightmare fuel...

I'm currently playing final fantasy IV and I have to say that battlewise it's kind of difficult. I hate that they have random characters join the party and they suck! I've seen some people on Youtube saying that the different versions (SNES, DS etc) differ. Has anyone here played it and can confirm this? I'm playing the playstation one.

I played the DS version which is apparently pretty much the same as the SNES one except with postgame content added, I think.
I found 4 and 5 to be a waste of time, really.

Well, before VK I was a total final fantasy nerd so I have to play them all X) So far I don't hate the story, just the battlesystem. I sat a couple of hours last night to level upp the twins. Would love if the members joining weren't useless. I've heard V is the worst but is interesting due to it's job system. Can't really see any game being worse than Final Fantasy I X) I guess since I'm grown up on the Playstation games I want a bit more of a story and background on the characters instead of nameless hunting crystals
