So the Osaka lives are on the 14th and 15th, is anyone going to go and tell me how good it was? Hint hint ::meev::
I finally got my FC account activated so I could order the CD with full discounts. There's also a FC feature where you can supposedly join a monthly chat room with Hirasawa over telnet (!!) but I kind of wonder if that really still exists. All the instruction screenshots are from Windows 9x

Well they still use fax machines in Japan so maybe?

Haven't had time (yeah right) to watch the previous Susumu Hirasawa dvd I bought, but I guess I'm gonna buy this one too.
His last album really was a great release and got me into his music again, so hearing those songs live is 10/10.

Glad I'm on this forum, otherwise I would never find out about this crap being released.

Moving to the Hirasawa thread and paging @aoz
I ripped "MONSTER A GO GO" from the "sankai no jintai chizu" VHS and DVD and compared, and it does indeed seem like the sound quality on the VHS is much better ::erm::
DVD: https://www.prideofmind.com/data/monsterdvd.mp3
VHS: https://www.prideofmind.com/data/monstervhs.mp3

I normalized the DVD audio to be roughly the same volume as the VHS - it was half this volume when ripped right off the disc. Everyone, take a listen and see if you agree about the quality - never trust just one set of ears ::shifty::
(And yes, this is a bit of rule-breaking since the DVD is in print, but I think there's a legitimate point of discussion here.)

As a bonus, I also ripped "CRUEL SEA":
https://www.prideofmind.com/data/cruelsea.mp3
This is probably as good a rendition as we'll get. Whether you like this better than the "Ashu-on" copy is purely a matter of taste, I think - both have their deficiencies.

holy SHIT, this IS much better ::shifty:: I've been missing out here with my DVD! the VHS version is much more dynamic while the DVD just feels... compressed. the yodeling part from Monster a Go Go is orgasmic. I still have to compare the new version of Cruel Sea to the Ashu-on one though.

- btw, do you have any Hirasawa/P-MODEL bootlegs? I have a few unpublished ones from 1981 and 1984 and a Mandrake one (also unpublished) from 1978. asking because I know you were the first person to get the 11/15/1985 one (it has since been uploaded to NND)

Why do you have "unpublished" bootlegs? Internet's that-a-way, use it XD
Beside the 1985 one I have a 1980 one where you can't hear the vocals at all, and a 1983 one which I think was near-worthless for some reason that I forget.

while the DVD just feels... compressed.
I don't know exactly what it is, if you compare the waveforms the DVD one doesn't look completely ludicrous. It's not like it got clipped or something. But even just listening to those first drumbeats in the MP3s the DVD version is muffled. I wonder what happened to the masters.

1980 one? 1983 ONE??? UPLOAD UPLOAD UPLOAD UPLOAD i will give you my life
haven't uploaded mine to the internet yet because:
- I'm trying to use them to get more rare Hirasawa stuff (namely the 1997 fanclub-only VHS "Non-Locality LIVE" (非局所性LIVE) [not to be mistaken with Ending Error, which was a fanclub-only VHS but is from 1995 and actually got a DVD repress, which you can buy on Teslakite])
- the 1984 one in particular was given to me by a guy who was actually present there and taped the show - he requested me that I do not share it publicly (tho I'm fine with sharing it privately if you need it [or the other ones for that matter])

(hope I don't sound like a huge asshole)

Hirasawa said two times (once in a 1989 interview and then on a 1990 one) that, in the 80s, he would record song ideas that didn't fit P-MODEL on cassette and just have them lay around and forget about them. when he began the preparations for the first solo album he went revisit these ideas (you can hear one of his "preparation demos" on Mandrake's Unreleased Materials Vol. 1, the track Kazamarido no Dekigoto was actually recorded in 198:cool: and found that the cassettes were all crusty and moldy. this could be what happened to the master tapes (though obviously not THAT damaging since the DVD isn't actually that bad, just worse than the VHSes)

I dunno, maybe I should be using them to get more rare Hirasawa stuff ::gaku::

Do you think it would help in extorting those Japanese hoarders? Tell them there's an American on the line who will only trade public-for-public.

come on :(

I think so, your 1985 bootleg used to be veeery sought-after until it was uploaded to nico (tho they'd probably want specific dates instead of "1983" or "1980")

(just to clear things up - pls don't think I'm selfish or anything. I'm only keeping these bootlegs private (for now at least) either to try and get more stuff or to respect someone's wishes [guy who shared the 1984 one is someone very respected in the JP community and is quite a nice person. wouldn't want him to get upset at me]. with that said I do plan to make some of them public/at least share excerpts of them. the 1985 Shun show which I'm trying to get for example I want to make public as soon as I get it [a lot in part due to Yuji Matsuda's recent death which made me quite sad])

They were:
9/28/1980 at Shibuya Yaneura (vocals nearly inaudible but instrumentals OK)
11/21/1983 at Kokura In&Out (terrible quality)

I don't even have a rip of the 1983 tape because it was so unlistenable. Maybe I'll rip it just so we know what kind of extortion material we have on hand.
The 1980 one has some song on it that I can't identify, it sounds like it should have come from "LANDSALE" but it's not any of those. I bet those Japanese fans would love to have a crack at it. ::cred::

!!!!!!
that's huge - none of the two main Hira-P bootleg traders have these
as for the potential Landsale outtake - Kasiko doesn't have setlists for any of these, so we really are stepping into uncharted territory
BUT I have two theories:
- it's a different arrangement of Alien (the band played several different versions of the track from 1979-1980, including the Mandrake version [the song dates back to arround 1977~1978] and a bunch of others)
- it's VIVA! Lovers
Viva Lovers was Katsuhiko Akiyama's last song with the band before rejoining P-MODEL in 1991. no audience recordings exist but it is known to have been played earlier that year

I think I do hear them saying something like "?? ?? koibito-tachi" in the chorus, but that could very well be because you planted the suggestion XD It's certainly not "Alien" though because they played that later in the set.

The 1980 setlist was:
ジャングルベッド I
??????
「ラヴ」ストーリー
偉大なる頭脳
ドクター・ストップ
美術館で会った人だろ
KAMEARI POP
ミサイル
いまわし電話
ナチュラル
ワン ウェイ ラヴ
ヘルス・エンジェル
異邦人
ダイジョブ
I AM ONLY YOUR MODEL
子供たちどうも
青十字
リトル ボーイ
サンシャイン・シティー

i am using post-hypnotic suggestion to bring unreleased p-model songs into existence
In all seriousness though, it'd be absolutely crazy if the song was VIVA! Lovers - if you want to check, the lyrics are online (they were on some issue of Moire Club [I think] and were transcribed in the early 2000s) on Hirapedia https://hirapedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Viva_Lovers
come to think about it, there's a *damn good* chance it's VIVA! - I don't think there are any other P-MODEL songs that use "koibito-tachi".

PS: if you rip it, please don't separate the tracks - MCs and audience chatter are, IMO, an integral part of the Bootleg Experience

You can barely even count the syllables, let alone make out actual words XD It seems plausible though based on the rhythm and a vowel here or there.

I re-examined the 1983 tape and it's actually not as bad as I remember. I'm not a huge fan of that particular era so I can't name all the songs off the top of my head though. Anyway, if you're talking to the Japanese you can bargain for these to be released, but they're going to have to humble themselves, act like proper citizens of the internet, and release their material publicly. I'll leave it up to you to wring whatever you can out of them.

Not in the middle of a negotiation! They'll just come here and download it and give you nothing.
I usually hate these spy games, but I can't resist an opportunity to take Japanese hoarders down a peg.

well can you send me the files through a private message? this, plus some of the files I already have could be enough to carry out a pretty large transaction (maybe as much as 9 live shows) - also, I don't think they'd be willing to make everything public right away. what I think we can do is get the files and then we, ourselves, and upload the stuff online. it ends the same way as if we requested them to publicly upload the stuff and we have a higher chance of actually getting everything (don't think they would be very willing to cooperate if we just said "I want this this this and that but I'll only give you stuff if you make everything public >:^))"

felt like I should alert you guys about this - Hirasawa has been working on two new albums!!! one is a "guitar album" which he has working on as a bit of a side project since 2019 and the other is a proper solo album which will probably come out next year. he's been posting descriptions and song code names for the solo album on his Twitter for a couple months now. as for the guitar album, you can download three outtakes from it if you're a member of his fanclub, Green Nerve (he scrapped them because he's turning the album to a more ambient direction [like ICE-9, maybe? that was his other "guitar album" and it's pretty ambient]). anyhow, I'm dying to hear both and hope they release soon!!!
