So I finally got the bluray working that was giving me region code problems. I just had to unplug the bluray player and plug it back in. Now it works again without any problems and plays everything.

Why didn't you try that before?

I don't know.

That would have been the first thing I would've done.

Shut up, I don't care!

Why are you arguing with yourself?

Get out of my head!!

Can anyone tell me how this video was filmed and why the guitar strings are undulating like they are?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a frame rate thing, just like that funny way the spinning wheels of a moving car look on film.

Dungeon Synth is a rare anomaly as the main formats for releases tends towards tape and vinyl.

Just found out about this; Lou Ottens, the inventor of the cassette tape format passed away recently at the ripe young age of 94.

Crazy that some small bands still release casettes. Though, they do it to be cute.
Now that audio casettes are obsolete even in the US prisons, there's really no real need to print them anymore.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were still using them in the Army somewhere. They only recently got rid of 8-inch floppy disks ::ash::

Been doing some vinyl conversion here and I just can't get a perfect click-free recording even with something that's fresh out of the shrinkwrap. Is it even possible?

Who pressed the vinyl?
Decca, back in 1957 - which makes it all the more remarkable that it was still in the wrap until my enterprising shears came along XD

Still might just be a lousy pressing.
Seems to happen no matter what record, stylus, or player I use though. At this point I'm guessing either it's static or that all the cleaning methods I've tried so far have been insufficient.
I really wonder what people did back in the day though - I find it hard to believe that regular people who aren't weirdos spent this much time fooling with cleaners and force gauges and counterweights and whatnot.

I imagine only the weirdos had equipment good enough to tease those kinds of imperfections out of their set-ups.

It turns out the most pernicious audio issues were due to the click removing filter I had been using.
Tip: paste the click-removed audio inverted over the original to hear the difference between them. If you still hear anything "musical" you've lost bits of audio.

Interesting thing I learned: the Sima GoDVD CT-2 is a Macrovision stripper that can still be bought for less than the price of an automobile:

The manufacturers actually had their collective pants sued collectively off by Macrovision over this, so I assume it really works. TBCs are still what the pros swear by, but if you don't actually need timebase correction, supposedly this will do. I picked one up, going to try it out.

For anyone on the cultural preservation beat (and located in the US): this seller will accept an offer of $260 for an A3 scanner with book-edge:

Seems to be ex-library stuff. The glass on mine needed a good scrubbing but otherwise it works fine.
