They're all hidden behind 1/100000 drops and/or in unguessable locations
How essential are they? I hate grinding for secrets. I'm glad Doom Eternal gave dished out unlock medals towards the end of the game. By the time I finished I had just enough to unlock all the upgrades I wasn't using.

I downloaded Control through Game Pass. I'm not really sure what kind of game it is, but Max Payne and Alan Wake were pretty cool so I'll give it a shot.

Is anyone else excited for Metroid Dread?
Dreading it. :p

Super Metroid is the only Metroid game I have played. It was pretty cool but I didn't really care much for the series outside of that.

I don't know if it is just me but Dread looks way too shiny.

I think you can beat the game without using a single one, but where's the fun in that?

Stumbled on a sort of Wizardry clone I'd never heard of, "Swords and Serpents"

Thanks, crazy old man!

Video games,

Fun!?

"Swords and Serpents"
Just hit me that someone really needs to make a sword and sorcery themed board game.

Speaking of hitting things, you ever play Daikatana? It is one of those games I've always wanted to give a shot, doubly so after finding out about the 1.3 patch that was released not too long ago.

I know the game has a reputation, but the screenshots always looked so darn neat to me. I remember seeing the notorious advertisement in a gaming magazine back in the 90s and, not knowing who John Romero was at the time, thought it was about George Romero. :P

No, I was never that much into FPS and it was, as you said, reputed to be terrible.
Supposedly the Gameboy version was the best version, that's how bad it was ::meev::

I think they made a bunch back when D&D was the fad. If you have one now, your Ebay wealth is assured.

Not only is it said to be the best version, it is apparently actually good.
It was developed as a clone of Link's Awakening, which itself was already a great game.

terrible.
I've only seen some footage of the game, but everything after the first level doesn't look that bad. However the first level does look absolutely dreadful and I have no idea why they thought that would be a good way to open the game.

And you can apparently play it in French. Maybe I'll do just that... but not anytime soon because I just got gifted a bunch of Final Fantasy games that have barged their way to the front of the queue. Sorry, crazy old dungeon man.

I've never actually played "Spiky Hair Man With Big Sword Game" before, believe it or not.

While I'm here: expensive wizardical board game

Yeah, the main game tanked in the US so the GBC version was only released in the EU and Japan, and even then in Japan it was only made available as a download at kiosks. :p

The more I think about Daikatana, and from what I've read in Masters of Doom, without anyone to reign in Romero's wild ideas the whole thing reminds me of that car that Homer designs in the Simpsons.

Looks cool, they really spared no expense back then.

Which ones? I've played all of them up to 9, which was the last one I played in the series. I did give the re-release of XII a try but didn't enjoy it at all.
I usually get distracted somewhere around the final act and so I've never actually finished any of the games in the series. Same with Breath of Fire and Lufia.
Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever finished any of the JRPGs I played from that era. Except for Robotrek.

As for Final Fantasy, from what I can remember I liked IV and VI the most so they get my strong recommend.

Which ones?
7, 8, and Tactics. I started 7 last night and my first impression is: this is a game that doesn't really want you poking around at the scenery and going off the path, which is too bad because that's what I always do.

Been playing through Final Fantasy 7 here and I just recruited this total edgelord who sleeps in a coffin but turns into a werewolf and wraps his face in a scarf with skull teeth
Fortunately he has a gun rather than a sword... so he won't cut himself on that edge.

I had to do a lot of pixel hunting to get into his coffin room. Better be worth it.

i really hope you enjoy it! Series is freakin phenomenal and good fun.
Real Estate Royale: Done.
Cabaret Club Czar: Done.
Those took far too much time, however I completely borked the Cabaret Club management and became way too overpowered and steamrolled the competition.
I like the absurd contrast between the grim and gritty story and the absolutely absurd side stories.
Currently on chapter 14 and I feel a bit like the story is running out of steam, but maybe they have some more tricks in store.

The coffin I remember, but as for everything else, I have absolutely no recollection.

Who is in your party? Yuffie, Vincent and Tifa were my favourite characters.

Currently running with Tifa "The Body" Lockhart, Vincent "Nothing Personnel" Valentine, and Egbert, Cloud's mysterious dual personality/poltergeist.
Just finished with the famous "Rosebud" scene where Sephiroth kills Dumbledore. Even I knew that one was coming, but I think I still lost all those materia.

Have fun with FF7! One of my favourite games of all time! My party was Cloud, Vincent and Cid!
What are you playing it on? (Which console, or PC?)

The original on PS1, not the new thing with Gackt or whatever ::gaku::

I'll ask for just one spoiler: are they going to do one of those things at the end where they break your team up into multiple teams and force you to use everyone? Will I regret it if I don't keep my entire roster leveled-up?

From what I remember, please back me up on this @sanctum, in the final area of the game, very close to the ending, your party gets broken down into three groups. But you can choose who goes with you and who not IF I REMEMBER RIGHT. I didn't have my entire roster leveled up, so it's not needed!

No idea, last time I played it was around 2004 and like every Final Fantasy game I have played I reached the final level but never actually finished it.

I do vaguely remember something about splitting up, but my FF7 memories are all a low-poly blur.

What I did finish recently was Yakuza 0, pretty cool overall. I still think the story dragged out a bit, especially with the events on the rooftop. I'm not sure if I will play though the rest of the series, at least not for the time being.

Next up is The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes. My ex-girlfriend was crazy about Until Dawn but I thought the first two games in the new series were pretty butt. The new one seems pretty cool though.
