I recently heard about an outfit from Detroit called DEATH, three brothers who apparently came up with punk on their own years before the Sex Pistols or any of the usual suspects. But nobody ever heard of them, because no record label would sign them, because they refused to change their name from DEATH ::meev::

"Politicians In My Eyes" is fantastic though.

That was freaking awesome! Thanks for sharing! It even uses a chord progression that's common in VK: I - VII - VI - V in minor!

So who's going to be the one to break the news about the "polyester counterfeit"? ::mana::

I can't believe this video is from 2021 XD

I have never wanted something to be over and while at the same time being terribly disappointed that it ended too soon.

In more palate cleansing news, I came across this recently, if you're into Black Metal and lo-fi melancholy then it is pretty güd.

W.S. Gilbert and Alfred Cellier - When Gentlemen Are Eaten Up With Jealousy

(at 20:39)

This mediocre recording is the only one available on Youtube but there's a much better recording here (albeit without dialogue): https://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=2CDLX7349

"The Mountebanks" was one of the operettas Gilbert did without his usual collaborator Arthur Sullivan. It seems that for years upon years he was dead-set on the idea of a play about a magical potion that turns everyone into what they pretend to be, but Sullivan always shot it down. When they notoriously split up over the "carpet quarrel" Gilbert teamed up with the other leading operettist of his day and finally got to bring his idea to the London stage.

What the heck?
Did you people know that the UFO dude from Blink-182 had a side project this badass?

Just put some make up and funny wigs on them and it's a VK music video, except the drummer actually knows how to play instead of just speed punking his way through the song.

I may be tripping but why does the track at 2:27 give me a Malice Mizer vibe if the last singles era had lasted longer and had some mixed in some Uruwashiki Kamen No Shotaijo vibes

Around 10 years ago someone linked me an 80's/90's goth rock band that I would really like to listen to again but I have never been able find the band again. Really pickles my gherkin.

Recently acquired: a recording of Alfred Cellier's "Dorothy".

This is gravely disappointing. "The Mountebanks" was delightful and even sometimes brilliant, but apparently you can only achieve those heights when working with W.S. Gilbert and/or being on your deathbed from tuberculosis.

For some reason this show was massively popular (more so than "The Mikado" among others running at the same time), and even financed the construction of a new theatre from its proceeds. I really don't understand Victorians.

Look at this concert that apparently was held back in July of this year featuring a number of jazz all-stars:

(More videos available from the same uploader if you browse that channel)
Even if I had known about it I never had the slightest chance of going, since Japan only opened up to "independent tourists" in October.
