Lejun advised me to post this here.... it's Schwarz Stein's Mobile Vicious Interview! It's mostly about why they broke up as well as some things about Artifical Hallucination. It was really hard for me to put a lot of what they were saying into English that sounded correct without losing the nuances of their statements. As a result, this interview probably sounds really awkward and I apologize... I just wanted to keep it true to the original ._. There are a lot of Japanese words for musical works and compositions and soforth that we don't have enough of. I hope this isn't confusing, but if you have any questions please ask!!!
There is a section at the end of the interview which I haven't translated yet... it's about their last live (or what was thought to be their last live at the time >.>) I'll try to get that done soon ^_^

Here you go!

--What was the cause of the decision to disband?
Kaya: Though we weren’t able to come to a definite conclusion, the topic of “Should we break up?” had come up in conversation before the album “Artificial Hallucination” was released. But, during the process of producing the album, we started saying things like “We’re going in naturally different directions, so I wonder if breaking up might really be the right thing after all.” Finally, the real decision to break up was made sometime before we went into the recording studio.

--You were definitely going in naturally different directions?
Kaya: There were large differences in our attitudes and we were developing different stances toward music. To put it simply, I place more importance in live performances and Hora-kun places more importance in recording.
Hora: For me, the process of making sounds began to take up more of my time, unfortunately.
Kaya: Our concept, “near future decadence,” had preciously started to come to us, but I wonder if we just had very different interpretations of it. For me, the element of “decadence” has more of concreteness. Hora-kun wants to go and pursue a world vision with a more inorganic quality.

--You say things like ‘inorganic quality’ and ‘decadence’, and those aspects can connect on a world-wide level, however… Kaya-san, in the world vision you want to express, did you want to embrace a more raw, bare aspect of human nature?
Kaya: Up until now, I think that we had been able to fuse those conflicting things in a good and balanced way. But as we both grew individually, I wonder if that balance, sadly enough, subtly started to crumble.
Hora: The reason that I have been giving is--- as what I want to do became clearer, I realized that I was unable to pursue it within Schwarz Stein, unfortunately. But personally, I think it was a good thing.
Kaya: It’s unfortunate, but our personalities don’t really fit together. It’s just that we had to struggle with our opinions while we were making the album. I’d say, “He probably wants to stay in this kind of world. So then, am I holding back, I wonder?”
Hora: Yep, yep. But isn’t it true that the fact that we couldn’t agree came from our inability to compromise that way and continue to create? I say if that’s the case, wouldn’t it be better to pursue music separately?

--Indeed. You certainly disbanded amicably in order to grow. Now, please talk about your final album, “Artificial Hallucination.”
Kaya: It’s not like I felt the need to express certain things just because it was our final album. I was going to finish expressing the core of the concept of “near future decadence.” Since we were still writing lyrics and composing music after the decision to break up, the memories of these past two years as well as the different messages from all of the fans are written into the music.
Hora: For me personally, I wasn’t really trying to show people any specific thing. But, compared to what I’ve done before, I was more able to use the synthesizers to my satisfaction. That kind of thing pleases me on a personal level, but being able to have someone to collaborate with who understands those areas makes me happy.

--It sounds like you have a suitable fixation on the inner workings of sound creation
Hora: The last time, there was an image of a specific sound in my head. But, I wasn’t able to actually create it with any type of equipment, and it felt really frustrating. This time, that aspect was mostly gone. In one take, we were able to bring out our feelings in the sound, with efficient recording and rising tensions. In the end, people will be able to notice that sort of thing.

--The pictures you used for the CD jacket, like always, are extremely ambient, evoking different kinds of moods.
Kaya: At the time, bondage clothing made of black PVC came up, but then there was also the fact that it was our final work… “a mourning dress?” I said. I created an image of a ceremonial dress to embody the ending.
Hora: In my case, my clothing didn’t actually change. From the beginning I’ve had the image of a human along with fragmented parts that could easily become a living thing, and this time was no different. That kind of ambience is something that is characteristic of me.

--I can say “This is Schwarz Stein!” I finally heard the top-quality album, and it was definitely good. What plans of action do the two of you have?
Kaya: I’m left feeling like I want to keep singing songs forever, because thanks to the two years I spent in Schwarz Stein, the world vision I want to keep aiming for became clearer.
Hora: From now on, I am definitely never leaving my house again! (laugh) Before I leave, I don’t feel like doing any activities, so I won’t feel like doing live shows either. Schwarz Stein’s last live was something I called my last farewell look. (laugh) From now on, I want to devote myself to making sounds and start making progress in the way that I compose and make other works.

--Will Kaya-san also offer musical compositions?
Hora: Don’t ever talk that way. I really don’t understand it yet (laugh) [he’s saying this because the interviewer phrased that in kind of a complicated way, and it was hard for Hora to understand him XD]
Kaya: Sometime in the future, maybe five or ten years from now, if I can grow more as a singer, it would be fun to commission a composition from Hora-kun. That’s because I love the compositions he writes.
Hora: It’ll be expensive!
Kaya: Ahahaha!

I know...>_<! He really shouldn't lock himself in his studio forever like that. He should start a solo project consisting of the exact type of music *he* wants to do, so we can all support him and find out Hora's own personal tastes, without the influences of Kaya and the members of Velvet Eden..........and so I can see him live.....
