Well I got this great idea today for a topic, just name them and then write a little reason as to why they are your top 5 ;)

mine are

1- Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
2- John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
3- Mana (Malice Mizer, Moi Dix Mois)
4- Közi (Malice Mizer, Eve of Destiny)
5- James Hetfield (Metallica)

Kirk: always carismatic always fun an most importantly ALWAYS FUCKING HEAVY his solos where outstanding and so is his personality.

John: well obiusly one of the greatest guitarrist of our time, from wonderful melodies to asskicking solos, he can do it all ::dix::

Mana & Közi: great friends, great guitarrists and to me two wonderful idols that make my life full with their songs, although I always said that they where capable of doing much more with their guitars...but hey, they still kickass ;)

James: another one of my idols, the man was and still is a great guitarrist with both composition and guitar playing he was among my "chosen few" "SO LONG LIVE, JAMES" ::dix::

By the way to all of u who Loved Dimebag Darrel my most sincerest sentiments, it was a great loss for everyone...RIP Dimebag Darrel, I make this topic in your honor....

NOTE: the order is irrelevant with this I mean I do not think Mana is better than Közi, for example, and if u wish write something for Dimebag, it would be nice...

1) hide
2) Yoshio ( Ayumi Hamasaki's guitarist ) Watch him live, he's freakin' amazing.
3) Sugizo ( ex. LUNA SEA )
4) Akiya ( Kagrra )
5) Ken ( L'arc~en~Ciel )

hide - Do I even need to say why?

Yoshio - He's an amazing guitarist, one of the best and most accurate I've ever heard. I never thought this until I saw Ayumi Hamasaki's "A Museum" concert. I was so impressed with his guitar skills.

Sugizo - Few people appreciate how good Sugizo is. He has half a lifetime's experience in classical music construction, but unfortunately, doesn't play to his potential most of the time.

Akiya - The speed this boy possesses when he solo's is matched by few I've heard in a long time. A good Akiya solo can have me rewinding a song up to 5 times.

Ken - Laruku's very underrated guitarist. After getting to see Laruku live, I was completely amazed with his guitar speed and accuracy.

1. Brian May (Queen): His solos were the most "appropriate" things I've ever heard. Every single one of his solos fits the song perfectly, and is instantly memorable.

2. Steve Howe (Yes, Asia {LOLOL YESASIA): He's a tremendous classical guitarist with a very interesting style and neat solos. He uses many, many guitars with different sounds and tones and really knows when to use them.

3. hide (X-Japan): for reasons as stated above. ^_~

4. Miyavi (ex-Due le quartz): Personality and live sloppiness aside, this guy crafts guitar work that I just find so entirely great.

5. James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins): This is another guy whose sounds were appropriate for the songs.

yeah that whole thing about Dimebag Darrel getting shot to death at a show is fucked up, he was indeed a great guitarist.

1) hide (X-Japan, solo work)
2) Mana (like you don't know...)
3) Linde (H.I.M.)
4) Billie Joe (Green Day)
5) The 3 guitarists from Iron Maiden

hide: He is the BEST guitarist ever IMO, truly revolutionary
Mana: See 1st post
Linde: I just love this guys style of playing
Billie Joe: yup, i just like 'em
Iron Maiden: Wow these guys can play, not to mention how much they were innovating in the early 80's

1. Mana - I wanted to be like the other people and vote for him too! No, actually I truly do think he is a great guitarist.

2. Daniel Ash - He is the guitarist of Bauhaus, listening to him is great!

3. Ken - The guitarist from L'arc ~ en ~ Ciel. It's the same reason as Kazuo

4. Porl Thompson - The Cure guitarist during most of their early albums. He has so much energy during their performances.

5. The guy from Specimen, I can't recall his name at the moment, but some of his guitar licks are pretty difficult.

I loooove him.

Next is Circuit V. Panther of Sex Machineguns.

Then the 'dueling guitars' sound of Mana+Kozi. I can't say they're my favorites on their own, but together they're beautiful.

Sugizo... and Anchang.

are wetalking ho do we think are the BEST guitar players, as in who can play with the most technical skill, or who plays guitar in our favourite songs, regardless of weather or not the technical ability is anything spectacular? because if that's the case, the credit should not so much go to the guitar play, but more to whoever wrote the song, whihc, may or may not be the same person.

Just your top 5 based on your likes, and a little reason either it´s because of their skill or to the one who wrote the song, that is for u to decide, this is a very open topic u see ;)

well! in that case... let me think

John Lennon/Geoge Harrison (The Beatles)
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Tom Morello (Lock Up / Rage Against the Machine/ The Nightwatchmen / Audioslave)
Mana (You know where he's from, come on)
Daron Malakian (System of a Down)

if I were to pick guitarists based souly on technical ability, it would be a much different list

Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Victor Wooten
Les Claypool
The Guitarist from "Daughters"

Claypool plays bass, but thats technically a guitar.....

He is pure awesomeness tho. My brother says most of his stuff isn't too hard to play(He be a bass player)tho, just the way he plays his awesome.

Favorite guitarists(This is kind of hard for me...I suck at picking favorites):

Alex Lifeson - Rush
Mana + Kozi - ex-Malice Mizer (Like their solo work, but them together = <3)
Buckethead
John Christ - ex-Danzig (VERY simple guitar work, but it sounds so freaking awesome. <3)
Dimebag Darrel - ex-Pantera (Didn't like his Damageplan stuff, but he was truly a great guitarist and I loved him. <3 You will be missed man)

Wooten doesn't play guitar either, but whatever. :-P

Still, Wooten is tremendously awesome. Gotta love Bela Fleck; it's top-tier groove material.

George Harrison is a MASSIVELY underrated guitarist. I wish people would look at the Beatles from the standpoint of the times and realize that George was better than anybody around.
