What???

I like FPS and I didn't get motion sickness from games like Call of Duty and Halo 3 and all those other good war games :P I think the first time I EVER played a fps game, I felt kinda dizzy, but I got used to it.

Those excuses ARE silly lol.

Do you know why? I am curious why specificially the Japanese people don't like fps games.

motion sickness

can't be true

I mean.... they didn't get motion sickness by playing Mario 64 but they do with some random FPS? xDD

When medal of honor frontline came out there was lots of talk about how even Americans couldn't play the game because of motion sickness. It's a stereotype, but it's grounded in reality.

Hm I read the comments on the Kotaku site, and one person actually said something that is probably close to the truth. Japanese people like story-driven games. That's why rpgs sell so incredibly well, and fps don't. They even play games that are only about the story(dating sims etc.) Western people don't understand why they can enjoy a game that is simply only clicking through a story, but I guess those games do sell well in Japan because they have a story.

Most fps games hardly have a story. Even when some games tend to have a decent development in the storyline(for example, Half Life 2), it doesn't come near to any rpg when it comes to depth and the reason of the story. Fps games are generally about meaningless killing, while the Japanese people prefer meaningful killing.

I also wonder if this is just in Japan, or any Asian country. While I was in China I played Counter-Strike against a few Chinese people and they owned me. I don't play Counter-Strike much, but I am definitely not a noob anymore(I love to play this game on a LAN after all). So it looks like they do play fps games in other Asian countries, and also have a reason to train themself to become skilled in a fps game. Even when their gaming habits are quite similar, I guess the Japanese people are the only one who almost completely isolated themself from the fps genre.

Then again, (as also said in the comments), it would be awesome if they would create a fps game that is story-driven and has typical rpg graphics(yes, the anime-type). Once I played a Half Life 2 mod with anime characters, and I liked it a lot, so it would be great if a company decided to break the barrier and mix both genres.

Oh and I never had motion sickness while gaming, sometimes I do get a headache when I game for an entire day(let's say, over 10 hours without pauses), but I guess that is kind of normal.

Clint Eastwood, Rambo and Shwartzanigger wasn't a part of their childhood, that would definitly help I think :o.

I started playing Super Mario Galaxy. It's really awesome but I get bored easily =(. Mostly because I'm in the mood to SHOOT THINGS DOWN now..

hm, oh well,

completed Mana Khemia, currently side-questing. And I really hope someone will upload the ending art to some place on the internet. I can't find it anywhere, and I must say it is one of the most beautiful art I have seen in a long time(at least, the art I had in my ending, Pamela Ibis' ending). I am probably going to upload it myself if it isn't the artbook that I will receive (hopefully) Monday or Tuesday.

I also decided to try an entirely different game, so I began to play Twilight Princess. I like it so far. Even when the games feel a lot like a mix between Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts and a random adventure game. I kind of dislike the entire 'do this, do that so you can do this and that' type of narration of this game, but I guess that is pretty normal for a Zelda game(Ocarina of Time was like that too after all). I also need to get used to the controls, especially that things go automatically. Link jumps automatically, climbs things automatically etc. I end up rolling against walls frequently because I like to confirms my moves with A, instead of doing the moves automatically. Oh well, fun game so far.

That was my one complaint with the controls - there will be some precision platforming to do where the auto-jump will come back and bite you

I don't know if Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone/iPod Touch is worth the $10... it seems like every new Monkey Ball since Super Monkey Ball 2 (save for SMB DS) has more and more ridiculous controls. I want Amusement Vision back. :/

You have an iPod touch? How do you like it? I'm upgrading my iPod soon and I just wanted to know.

Super Monkey Ball was one of the games I was going to get too. :\

Priss: I have the iPhone, actually. Long story behind that one, but...

The game looks good, but the accelerometer just doesn't work naturally for it. It doesn't seem like it has any idea how to handle compensation so once you lose control by tilting too much in one direction you have no choice but to watch your character shoot across the screen and fly off the edge of the stage. @_@ I still can't figure out the best way to center the stage to make the monkey stop moving!

Also, there's no way to gauge (or calibrate) what's "center" from the beginning. It feels extremely awkward at first since you're learning how to move by pure trial and error. While your instincts tell you to keep the system horizontal/level to the ground like you would if you were really rolling something around, you actually have to tilt the phone/iPod up a bit toward you. It doesn't feel intuitive.

I've found that if you make slow, calculated movements you ought to be okay. But that takes a lot of the fun out of the game.

A friend of mine has the iPod Touch and he loves it. All those extra features (internet support ftw) make it a pretty good investment, I think.

I was going to get the iPhone but the I couldn't handle the 16 gigs of space. I need at least 30! Hahah. So yeah, looks like I'll just stick to the iPod Touch + Cell Phone combo. :\

And that's sort of disappointing to hear. :( I thought the games would be well thought out and intuitive, but I guess not. Eh, that's why I have a DS. :D

I really like the other Apps for the iPod Touch/iPhone. The twitter one is really cool :D The only thing I'm regretting about getting the new iPod is transfering my old music. There's not really a simple way of doing it. -_-

Haha! I don't know what to do with the 8 GB of space on mine. I guess I'll just fill it with a bunch of Apps over time~

Did Apple ever mention why you can't store music and other types of files on an iPod simultaneously? That's one of the things I liked about this old iriver I had some time ago. It acted as an external HD and as an mp3 player (among other things). You could set up and organize music folders however you wanted but it wasn't as organized as iTunes keeps everything (arranged by artist, album, song name, etc.)

The Monkey Ball game isn't exactly horrendous, but be prepared to get a little frustrated if you do end up purchasing it. ::kisaki:: The controls are on par with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (sjldfjklds;dhf).

Lol, I really like this series, don't I? XD

When I first got my iPod I thought 30gigs was too much, but christ, I filled that up fast! I mean, sure, I can cut some stuff out of it and buy the 16 gig iPhone, but I'm scared that if I delete music I'm going to want to listen to it. So yeah, I'm a pack rat...kind of, but not really.

I'm not sure. I have my iPod in Disk Mode for eBooks and Notes and things like that, but I can't put things like .exe's or stuff like that on it. I didn't think that was a big concern for people.

And Monkey Ball is fun, so you have a right to like the series! I have the DS and the Wii versions of the game and I play the DS one more than I'd like to admite. :O
