I just read John Cheever's short story "The Swimmer" for my English class. It seemed kind of pointless to me.

Last weekend I read The Graveyard Book by Neal Gaiman. It was wonderful!

Today I started reading the latest graphic novel by Warren Ellis, Aetheric Mechanics. It's Sherlock Holmes on crack so far.

I'm also reading Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, and I'm starting to read Nightwood by Djuna Barnes.

I've been on a Shakespeare kick lately because his books are $5 and highly portable ::meev:: I read "Macbeth" and "Hamlet"... the latter of which was really weird when you stop and think about it XD
I'm thinking of digging up a copy of "The Spanish Tragedy", on which Hamlet was based, next. I'm also waiting for the world's slowest book shipper to send me "Scientific Explanation and Atomic Physics" ::hora::

Funny items seen around the bookstore:
Chuck Norris' Black Belt Patriotism
The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy: I Link Therefore I Am ::meev::

I just finished Toni Morrison's Beloved.

I fear that I'm a literature snob now, and there's no going back.

I just died a little inside. In a sad way.

I'm reading Virtual Light by William Gibson. He's fabulous.

And commenting on comments from further up the page: House of Leaves is unbelievably creepy. I read it a year and a half ago and I still get the wiggins when I listen to Poe's album that went along with it. (And I am a hard one to affect with this sort of thing). Anyway, anyone who's read House of Leaves should also check out XKCD's take on it, if you haven't already :D

Oh, I'm reading an AP Art History book (its so thick XD) because I'm a nerd. ::batsu::

My best friend is taking it at her school, but they don't have that class at mine so I can't take it ::weepy::

Haha, wow. That sounds intense.

Everyone who's read Twilight. A friend recommended it to me, but honestly, after being at Chapters and noticing like a dozen young teen females around the books made me question it altogether. XD Is this like Anne Rice stuff or is it gushy and really girly? I could read reviews I guess, but all I can really find are people complaining about the authors writing, but many do the same with Anne Rice and I find her stuff pretty enjoyable, so... Anyway I could just read them, but I'd rather know before I drop money on it.

My creative writing professor has declared Twilight to be "very poorly written" and that's enough for me to back off completely.

I'm going to skip the books and go see the movie instead! ::meev::

I'm going to skip seeing the movie in a theater, and maybe shamefully rent it when it comes out.

My sister gave me the rundown of the Twilight plot. It's just predictable vampire lovestory fare in teenage angst form. In other words, a bad Buffy and Angel ripoff in which OF COURSE THEY END UP TOGETHER BECAUSE IT'S TRUE LOVE OKAY?

Me, I'm digging some Tolkien. Just finished up The Fellowship of the Ring and am starting The Two Towers tonight.

Ai, ai, a Balrog!

I read the whole series out of morbid curiosity. Complete waste of time. The creatures she keeps describing aren't anywhere close to being vampires. I can't fathom why she calls them that when they share none of the common characteristics of... well, any definition of vampire. (Except for drinking blood. Maybe.)

What happened to the classical vampires that turned into bats? Where did those go?

I bought that a couple weeks ago. I've gotta get though Cat's Cradle first, then I'm going to head into Flowers for Algernon.

No, why, is it good? ::kisaki:: Mine is just an AP Art History book that shows you how to take the test (even though I'll never take it ::weepy:: ) and teaches you the stuff as well. But I'll look into that book you mentioned! ^^

I read Flowers for Algernon and it was so good! ::squee::
