The meaning of life.

I was going to reply with something like 'every sperm is sacred...' but what the hell.

Listing individual reasons for suicide is one of the most shallow things anyone can possibly do. People are individuals and they don't all have some sort of uniform trigger that suddenly makes them break out of millennia of survival instinct no matter how much they loved that fucking girlfriend.

And there is no meaning of life... get over it or make one up if it makes you feel better.

I totally disagree but I would defend to the death, your right to your opinion however.
I enjoy the idea that all life is pre-programmed on conception, however choice is a major option in life although no matter what it leads to the same end.

What you're saying sounds like, we are programmed to die, we choose how we live and that makes a world of difference, but no matter what, we do die. I don't see how this is the meaning though.

Yes and no.
OK the word 'destiny' is such an overused terminology, however it is applicable to all life. Everyone has a planned out map of what there supposed to do and then eventually expire. But the choices I mentioned there how you follow this 'path' if you will. So imagine your supposed to become a record label owner how you go about that and what age you manage it are up to you, but eventually you get there.
It’s not an easy thing to describe, and no I don’t follow any religion this is just how I see things as being.

[edit] As for a meaning, like I mentioned before everything we do in life is like a lesson, the meaning would be to learn from these lessons and grow.

I see. We have a basic difference of opinion then. You would normally have to die on account of this but I'm kind of tired right now and will opt to go to bed instead. Bugger =\

Ange: thanks for the compliment. I always try to look at the brighter side, even if it isn't all that bright.

But The meaning of life changes from person to person. One person may hink the meaning of life is death, another may think the meaning to life is living. The meaning of life depends on the person. I have my happier outlook because that's what I need. I need to think something positive because I have (I think it might be manic now) depression. However someone with a very happy disposition may need a more deprssing look to bring them down to earth.
Now I will end before I seriously become an old lady. I need to act my age more often ><

Clearing up a few misinterpreted concepts

The beauty of this forum is how we can have such contrasting opinions and still all get along most of the time. But I don't think you really understood what I was trying to say Ama, because I was stating a few possible areas of reasons as examples, not at all the few and only concrete reasons. If I were to go and list each and every single reason possible, it would be an unrealistic task because each complex scenario is individual and unmatchable to another, as you have stated yourself. And love extends far beyond girlfriends and boyfriends. It exists between warm friendships, brothers, occasionally even between archrivals in a way. I get mad when people equate love to only a sexual relationship, because I feel that they're missing out on the big picture of life.

And yes! Every sperm is sacred! :D

first of all i believe NOTHING exists or happens without a purpose (why would nature waste it's energy for useless things?), so no one and nothing is useless. i believe the meaning of our lives is to learn and do as much as possible, in any way. and when we're finished learning and doing what we're supposed to do in one live, we die. i also believe in reincarnation, and that we continue being reborn untill we're ready to enter the next sphere.
about suicide, there's a theory that sais the ones who commit suicide will be "punished" and have to try and stop other people from making the same mistake as they did, and i think i believe in that. as i believe in destiny, i believe you should die when you're supposed to die and not when you feel like it. perhaps the period of depression is just a very short period compared to all the (better) years that might come afterwards. i've never been suicidal at all (in fact, i'm still scared of death:S) so i can't really relate to people who want to commit suicide, but i think if you're patient enough you'll always come out stronger and wiser.

btw isn't "the meaning of life" the title of a monty python movie? that's what i thought of when i first read the title of this thread:P

My "little sister"

My best friend was suicidal at many points in her life, and she still gets depressed easily. She tried killing herself multiple times before. I try my very best to help her see the rainbow after the rain, whenever she's in need.

A theory in fertilization

Oh wow, neato! I bet there's a way to cross two men too. How you do it, would be to empty out an unfertilized egg (drain out all the DNA) and inject the DNA from a sperm cell. Then it can be fertilized by another sperm cell and viola, the crossing of two males!

I think you 're all missing the point here . . . Life has no meaning. LIfe has only one purpose:

Buy everything Midi:Nette releases!

Just Kidding (yes it is a very lame joke, I apologize :( )

Anyway, I agree with some of you all. There is no single meaning of life. We each have to find our own individual meaning . . .

If I ever wanted kids, then I'd find me a man willing to do that.

Moving foward in life

Yep, I too believe that there is no one single monotonous meaning, or we'd all be sharing the exact same lives. Like I said before (or how I quoted my friend,) the meaning of life is different for everyone and we need to find our own. The more variety and change and different individual people with awesome ideas, the better. Vive la difference! :D

I'm pretty sure I never dreamt about this but ever since I've mentioned it to someone they told me I was making things up. Even my teacher at school said so ;__; (she was the kind you want to punch in the face) but anyway... I saw a documentary absolute ages ago in which it was claimed that a woman was pregnant without any sperm involved. Her body had apparently just created a featus. The documentary talked about pregnancy in general and just happened to mention this case. I've not heard anything about it since and I guess if it was true a great deal of fuss would have been made over it but then again I can see why it might not have been talked about more. Anyone else have heard anything similar?

I once saw an extensive scientific article on how a human man was indeed impregnanted.

Of course, it turned out to be an internet hoax. Such is life. ;]

No way, the same documentary??

I actually have seen a similar documentary! I'm glad you brought that up, because now I wonder what channel you saw it on. Perhaps it was the same documentary; that kind of stuff really interests me. Tell me if you remember it okie?

Ah... I really don't remember at all. It was most likely made in the 80s though.
