So I just got mail from Guruguru about upcoming releases and this was on the list:

※2009/02/18 Kaya 「かや名曲シリーズ1 ボン・ジュール・シャンソン」 CD \2100

It says Kaya 'famous music' Series 1 Bonjour Chanson.
*Am I allowed to translate that as 'hits'??

Anyone hear anything about this? Is this probably just a collection for anyone who never bought his "indie" releases?
Oh and Chanson is here ::meev::
I couldn't find anything on his site = There is Nothing.

Yes, I saw that on CDJapan as well.

Sounds interesting since Kaya hasnt really done any cover songs in his solo period...

I'm kind of.. scared.
I don't really like the direction he's taking in his music presently =/ I was disappointed by Last Snow and Bara iro no hibi (I didn't hear Perverse Rendezvous yet). We're getting more and more far of his powerful and strong voice, as well as his darker sound... and that's what I have always appreciated in his music.

Thanks for the info, tough !

I didn't really notice this until you pointed it out, but now that I have noticed it it makes me sad. ::weepy:: I hope that after this we get something darker. Otherwise I may end up not preordering stuff - if it's not going to be something I love, I don't want to spend a lot of money on it until I've heard it first.

I really think that Kaya is not the type of artist who would let themselves be ruled completely by a label. Have you stopped to think that maybe he felt like doing things this way?
I understand that you don't like a single or another, but the whole "oh it's because he went major" thing irritates me.

Kaya won't be doing dark-stuff - I read in one of his interviews *from here* that he is moving from that.

Oh yeah, I don't think it's because he went major at all. Kaya does the kind of music that he wants to do, because it's what he wants to do. He's said all along that he likes to experiment and he wants to try different things that he hasn't done before. At the moment, it's just moving in a direction of stuff that I don't really like very much. XD Who knows, it will probably grow on me (I hated Masquerade for quite some time, but now I actually like it), and it will probably open my eyes to some musical styles that I haven't given much of a chance.

As to the darker stuff, I just hope that he doesn't go completely pop-ish and totally leave behind the lyrics and moods that are more meaningful to me. If he does, it's because he wants to and I respect his choices and desires.

I love lighter stuff like Chocolat too (in fact, I would like to see more like it! XD), but I won't necessarily love all of his music as much as I do now if he shifts over to doing styles that I don't really enjoy listening to (the chansons worry me because my sister says that the ones she heard in her Japanese culture classes were awful).

I just don't think Kaya should abandon his powerful singing style completely while he experiments, and I hope that he doesn't. Really, the lyrics/content matter less to me than the sound of his voice. Since I don't understand very much Japanese, I simply won't look up the lyrics if I think I won't like them! XD

ETA: My opinion has changed a bit since Last Snow arrived. I am in love with all of the songs from it, so I am now a little more hopeful for this chanson release.

I'm not pointing his move to major as the main reason why his music has changed... yes, I think going major can make an artist's music become very banal and lose its flavour, but that's not really what is going on with Kaya...I don't think it's a 100% bad thing that his music is becoming different. He's still doing what he personally wants to experiment, and I think that's great!

But the thing is that it's a big change in the music his fans are used to hear from him, and it's normal that not all of them are satisfied with it. He has acquired a sufficient fanbase to be able to take this kind of risks, but he may lose some of his fans if he continues in this direction.

If they're going to be in french, I'm going to be very VERY wary. XD

I think I'll skip this release until I find out what's on it, exactly and how it sounds... ^^;

Yeah no kidding XD I've heard Japanese people singing chansons in French before and...neh...
Either way, I'm fine with the chansons I currently listen to and the people singing them (France Gall's sooooo cute ::squee:: )

On my Japanese copy of "Poupee de cire", a previous owner took a pencil and hand-wrote in kana readings underneath the French lyrics ::meev::

Well, at least they're trying to be worldly in a Japanocentric way.

You know, my friend tried to get me to go to Soware (sp)'s concert back when I was in Japan.
I almost went but it wasn't meant to happen I guess.
