Yeah, but maybe the first step in GACKT WORLD DOMINATION ::gaku:: is to get a label that will do exactly what he tells them to XD

If that was the case, you'd think he'd just make his own label at this point. XD
Unless there were a ready-made label that was willing to.

Ive heard from people that Avex tends to be more willing to promote their bands overseas. If that is the case, it could be good. Also Ive heard that at his recent concerts, he has been talking about wanting to do some overseas shows. That wouldnt surprise me since he has always talked about wanting to, but Columbia tended to be against it.

I would say he switched because he got better terms and more freedom. Though Im not sure.

Maybe Avex wanted him because he is a bigger artist. It could give them more clout.

Ah and also, apparently he has a new single coming out in June and will be doing a song or two for a PC game, where he is also a villain in it.

The thing about Avex is, bottom line, they do a shitton of anime music. I mean a SHITTON. And, all their legitimate artists are always roped into doing anime themes, too. Do As Infinity is a prime example.

So sure, avex does 'overseas' stuff, but in the form of anime soundtracks and no-name anime 'artists' who get a one-hit wonder cd that they push overseas to perform before everyone forgets what anime they contributed to, and that's really, really not the way to go. :/

I swear if they sell Gackt off to Harry, as much as I do secretly adore that man, to one of those 'buy a ticket and have dinner with gackt' or something nonsense 'events' like they did to versailles (and didn't they do it to dir en grey in some form, too? can't remember) just to get so-called overseas promotion, he's going to get an earfull from me if I have to go down to my stupid local anime con myself next year to bitch and gripe......

Basically, I have concerns. :/

If it doesnt lower Gackt's music quality and lets him do whatever he wants still, who cares if he does anime music or not.

L'arc en Ciel has done alot of anime type music and they are bigger than Gackt is.

The thing is, musicians do these deals to make money. They have to. Plus it gives them exposure to more people, and they end up more popular, which means more freedom, which means more product for us to buy/hear.

^ I wouldn't say that L'arc is bigger than gackt. L'arcs really faded out of things, I think. I didn't get a whiff of them at all when I was living in Tokyo, whereas Gackt was on TV shows and commercials and there were posters for his tour in a lot of shop windows.

We'll see how it goes. Basically, I hear 'avex' and expect low quality, cookie-cutter junk for the most part. Let's hope Gackt's one of the exceptions with this label.

edit: also, no idea if anyone's mentioned this but, "Yellow fried chickens" WTF. ::erm::

I would say that L'arc overall is bigger than Gackt. I believe the number somewhere said that Gackt has sold 10 million cds total a year or two back.

L'arc en Ciel has sold over 30 million records worldwide as of a long time ago. They definitely were more popular than Gackt has been.

That's probably because they've been around as a band since at least 1992 or so, whereas Gackt's only been solo since mid 1999. So, of course the numbers are going to be different. 'Bigger', however, implies public popularity, and Gackt's always held a bit of a sway over L'arc in that department it seems, especially in the past few years.

Ummm, I'm not sure how to put this but Gackt's last label was Nippon Crown not Columbia. Nippon Crown isn't that big a label and in fact Gackt was the only one of their artists to release a 1# hit in 32 years. Avex on other hand has produced many big name multi hit artists including Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi, and Ayumi Hamasaki who at 50 million record sells is one of Japans best selling artists. By leaving Nippon Crown and joining Avex Gackt is ditching an old crappy defunct label and joining a label that has far more power to promote him in Japan and overseas.

I don't think the label switch will have any real negative consequences.

Also, just throwing this out there, Gackt did a pretty funny commercial for Wonda. Look it up if you have the time.

Aside from that, the R&RII DVD has been out for quite a few days already, here's a small sample which I think quite some would enjoy. It's the violin duet between You and Gackt.

Ah, I did get them switched around, your right. I assure you I did mean crown, though. Brain to finger disconnect- I blame it on them both starting with the letter 'C'.

Oh yes, the almighty plastic Hama-monster. No, I hadn't forgotten about her. :P I still don't like avex. The proportion of their 'successful artists' is overall much smaller in comparison to the rest of the rubbish they put out. Still, I'm interested to see how this will affect Gackt overall- his image, music, etc. . I'm just hoping it isn't adversely, especially if he's got his sights set on the states. :/

So the YFC otoko matsuri (man's only) concert DVD has been out for a couple of days already. Some parts are already uploaded on YouTube. No new songs ofcourse, but I thought especially the live of Justified was pretty kickass!

Watch it over here:

So has anyone heard Ever yet?

From the sample a while back I didnt think I would like it that much. But once you get the whole song it's a pretty awesome song. Musically, I think it was one of Gackts more technical songs if you just count guitars, bass and drums. I must say, ever since the Re:Born cd, they all play alot better than they used to, or more complex anyways.

Vocals are pretty decent too.

The song sounds like a more funky punk song. Im actually liking it.

I think the videoclip is odd, and at first I didn't like the song either. But during a live it's a lot of fun, and the song really grew on me. I especially love the live in Bochum they recorded for nico nico (the whole live was recorded, but only EVER has been uploaded yet). You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZEhcsNQ3Hk

Everytime I see footage of Gackt's concerts, the majority of the audience is female... Were there actually many guys who showed up? And was he able to keep his shirt on through the show? JILS did a live called 男道 The Road of the Man which was men only and the vocalist Yukiya said he'll never do it again because the live house reeked to high heaven. 150+ sweaty guys does not make for a plesant atmosphere...

The Otoko Matsuri gathered about 1300 of his male fans I think. I love that dvd, they are so into it! A few years ago this was certainly.. not done. I love Gackt for giving his male fans so much attention nowadays. XD

Then again, if you look closely at Gackt's live dvds, you'll see that no single age group or gender isn't represented there. There's parents bringing their children (last year's R&RII had a nursery for the arena leg of the tour) and this month in Osaka I saw grannies. ::meev:: ::gaku::

I had heard rumors of this but wasn't sure about this until now I happened to find this Gackt blog translation by uranus_sama. Sometime around 2006 Gackt met up with Kozi and there still good friends. Here is a link to the translation

http://uranus-sama.livejournal.com/603430.html

He talks real warmly about him.

^^I'm pretty sure we've read and discussed that entry before.

After reading what he's said in Jihaku, the part of that entry where he says he's "so glad Kozi grew up" and now that Kozi's grown up "they can finally talk about their past arguments like adults" totally comes across as a jab and super arrogant, but maybe it's just me.

I can never tell if Gackt is actually being so backhanded or if it's all a misunderstanding, but it sure smells like it to me...
