Wintersun is like one of my most favouritiest metal band ever.

Jari needs to release Time already. I'm thinking of making a couple of fake last.fm accounts and scrobble fake songs from Time to troll the shit out of people on Last.fm by starting rumours of Time being leaked.

Powerglove is also tight too.

Also for Thrash stuff I like Metal Church, Heathen and some others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Does Kreator count as Thrash?

powerglove is really good! i would definitely see them again. they got jewed when I saw them because they were the last ones to play and due to some stupid law the club had to close at a certain time and they didn't get to do their full set because earlier bands were jerks and used more time than they were supposed to :/

i'm not one of those douchebags who fret over genre distinctions, but I consider kreator thrash. in fact, i have extreme aggression on my PSP and it helps get me pumped up for my lame classes in the morning. do you have a favorite kreator album? I only know that one but it's highly recommended.

edit: love us or hate us is my favorite song on that album. betrayer also kills!

Kreator is definitely thrash. I would recommend Sodom for Kreator fans.

My favorite Kreator albums are Pleasure to Kill, Extreme Aggression, and Coma of Souls.

@Lem - YES, TIME needs to be released DAMMIT! ::weepy::

Kreator is def. thrash and Coma of Souls is my favorite record by them, Badlands by Metal Church is a good song and Time waits for no man.

Meaning it's never coming out.

Other random ruminations on old thrash :

I realize that I love Anthrax mainly for nostalgia reasons but Sound of White Noise is a legitimately great album.

When I got back into metal a few years ago, I was shocked to hear that bands like Testament, Exodus, Death Angel and Overkill are now being called "legendary" by a lot of people.

Exodus? Legendary?

I liked all those bands in high school (not Overkill so much) and loved Testament, but come on people, let's not get carried away here.

I like Peace Sells more than Rust in Peace and I like ...And Justice for All more than Master of Puppets. There, I said it.

I'm with you on most of what you said. Exodus and Testament aren't quite legendary yet, but Overkill definitly are.

Everyone says that the "Big 4's" best albums are Master of Puppets, Rust in Peace, Reign of Blood, and Among the Living. They are awesome, but I have totally different choices.
Ride the Lightning, Seasons of the Abyss, Peace Sells, and Spread the Disease.

edit: translation - I too like Toxic Waltz

Right, I don't think they're "legendary" but they made some fun thrash and were a good time. That's about it.

can anything even be considered legendary at this point? we've only had decent quality recordings for like 60 years

Oh snaps, I forgot all about Morbid Saint and Coroner. ::k::

As for the whole legendary thing - I think maybe part of it has to do with the newer generation of metal fans that weren't really there when these bands made their legendary albums? Does that make sense? I grew up during the Slipknot and Limp Biscuit nu metal invasion so later when I got into better real metal bands it was pretty mind blowing to listen to some of the stuff that I did. I could easily spout off some stuff as legendary because it was certainly better then what TV and radio was spoon feeding me.

Also to derail a bit but I always find it lulzy when a band guy cuts his hair. All the metal fans are like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Hansi from Blind Guardian hacked off his hair and almost every comment for their new music video is WHY DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR D: Last.fm same shit. The dudes old and a little chubby, I think the hair cut makes him better anyway :P Same thing with Cradle of Filth, Danny cut his hair and everyone is like BWAAAAAA NOT THE HAIR.

Sheesh, metal fans are pretty anal about hair

My order of favourites goes like this:
1. Killing is my Business
2. Peace Sells
3. Rust in Peace

and

1. Kill em All
2. Ride the Lightning
3. Master of Puppets

And I like Megadeth much more than Metallica.

Terrible Certainty is my favourite Kreator album.

Rosenfeld are my favourite Japanese thrash band. The music is pretty much standard thrash, nothing special, but the vocals are awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asqVmQCufx4

I bought Darkthrone's new album today, and last week I ordered a few Mayhem and Burzum albums I didn't have. I'll probably have a black metal phase for the next few weeks.

And I started listening to Helloween recently. Walls of Jericho might be one of my favourite metal albums. I'd probably like them more though if Kai Hansen continued as the vocalist.
