Apparently the other three bands of the "Big V-kei Four" were La'cryma Christi, FANATIC◇CRISIS and SHAZNA.

I've never even heard of FANATIC◇CRISIS. ::shifty::

Me too XDDDDD

Btw: always when I speak with Japanese people about things I like I more or less have to mention Mana at one point (at leat when I am honest XD). None of these people are interested in VK and know anyone. One person even never heard of Gazette, because normal Japanese people have just no clue about VK; BUT they all know Malice Mizer. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

So there is no neo-visual boom XDDD Even if here are huge posters of Gazette and so one, no one remembers them XDD
The old bands are different!!

80's Visual (X, SEIKIMAII, COLOR etc) = Rebellion Era (also known as the speed and heavy metal era)
90's Visual (MM, La'cryma christi, Psycho le Cemu etc) = Human Life Concept Era (also known as the Guitar Twin era)
00-05's Visual (Noir Fleurir, Due'lequartz, et) = Dark Era (also known as the white and dark makeup era)
06's-act Visual (The Gazette, Miya~vi, etc) = Sell Out Era (also known as the NeoVisual Era).

am I wrong? :(

Who cares, it's a cool way of looking at it.

Also look how different Kaoru and Kisaki are now.

I'd make the dark era 95-00. Most dark bands I can think of (post-Gackt MM, Velvet Eden, Noir Fleurir, Eliphas Levi and other Key Party bands) started in the mid/late 90's and disbanded in the early 00's. And I think Psycho le Cemu are a bit young for the 90's, having formed in 1999 and disbanded in 2006.

I definitely agree on the sell-out era though. ::cred:: ::hora::

Yes, I disagree that there was any such thing as "80s visual", even if X did invent the word itself. Those 80s guys have their place in the history of visual, but I wouldn't classify them as part of it. As I'm fond of pointing out, though the first genuine "visual" innovators such as Malice Mizer started out at the beginning of the 90s, I don't think there was a real visual scene or movement before about 1994.

I've met a few like this, surprisingly in the Western world.

If it wasn't for the "Japan craze" among people I've met, I probably wouldn't have gotten into any other bands outside Malice Mizer and Buck-Tick which were my firsts. And I still prefer sticking with that (just a bunch of old bands that have either ceased or continue to this day). I don't even listen to most j-rock, yet people quickly assume I'm into "VK so hard". :| Having a conversation about japanese music with a westerner "japan crazed" fan sucks. It leads to nowhere, except mentioning irrelevant stuff like the Gazette... (when I'm mentioning other genres or other bands; and why is it always the damn Gazette, is beyond me).

Anyway, there's a new entry in Monologue Garden with several game consoles in it. ::kisaki::

Sarah at Manasama.net has posted a translation of the new entry. He talks a bit more about VK there (amid LOTS of game talk):

Its hard to talk about Visual kei now.
Since I don't get the chance to talk to bands now days, I had an arbitrary embrace on it and only spoke about my own views and prejudices of today's Visual scene.

However, Visual kei now has the appearance of ordinary people (like the host style in Shibuya?), and the atmosphere has lost its hedge.
Its something the times have washed away.
However, since I want to continue to protect my world, I am going back in time. (smiles)

I overate so I needed more time than planned XD
Here is a bit of the half of it XD

† educational art

You might have all read the game labo, haven't you?

Because the talk about the games was long,
hot memories of the time I studies games with full concentration were opened,
and because I talked with no stop,
it got published just fitting over the whole pages...
hmm... unofortunately
Well, but the main topic was talking about Visual Kei.

It is hard to talk about the present visual kei.
Becuase I don't really have the chance to talk with people from present bands,
I just freely cover the scene
and utter my opinion and my prejudices...

But the present visual kei has no barrier of atmosphere seen with the eyes of a normal person
(Shibuya, Host-kei?).
Time just goes by.
But because I really wanna protect my own world, I am turning back time. (laughs)

And
in the game labo interview because my hard mania sould was opened,
I will introduce my favourite hard [ware].
This is a part of my hard collection.

This is 3DO REAL of Panasonic which is a opening of the war with 32 bit.
It came also up in the Game labo, but I want to add some information.

The sale started at the time of the beginning of Malice Mizer.
It is a precious thing and this educational piece of art stands like ke Panthenon on four legs.
It has a too fast front roading.
As a result with this feeling it strives towards a feeling of high value.
Finally, the costs were high for this gaming platform, back then it was around 80.000Yen!.
[= today around 750Euro]
Also the PS3 surprised me!
The interactive multi media machine surmounted the limit of game machines wich were too fast.

Nothing worse than a hedgeless atmosphere ::meev::
I guess he means that in the past bandmen gave the impression of being "different", whereas nowadays they look like ordinary people (more precisely, hosts  ). Given his views on conformity that's not a flattering picture.

Some of them actually are XD Takuma from BABYLON was also the #1 host at some two-bit host club, it turns out. Not that this was a surprise to anyone.

As for Mana's game talk: the "3DO M2" was supposed to be the next-generation 64-bit 3DO, but it apparently sucked so badly that the guy at Panasonic in charge of it was reassigned to a fish cannery in Hokkaido or something like that  The hardware ended up being used to run hi-tech coffee machines and car dealership kiosks. There are a bunch of prototypes and devkits floating around out there in the hands of lunatic collectors.

That's really interesting. I think it's understandable that Mana has gotten out of the loop. I think though that Mana would be able to re-establish connections with VK people whenever and if he wishes to do so, but on the other hand, I think that not being into the scene has helped him to judge the bands objectively because he doesn't have any biases.

But because I really wanna protect my own world, I am turning back time. (laughs)

Does this mean we're gonna see Malice Mizer again?! ::squee:: Just kidding, just kidding... shutting up now...
