I think Kamijo has been pushing/straining his voice more in the more recent Versailles albums/singles. For me, when I go back and listen to songs from Lyrical Sympathy and Noble he sounds like he isn't over-straining (for lack of a better word) his voice. He really liked his voice during that phase, although I liked his vocals in Lareine as well.

I noticed in Jubilee he was starting to strain his voice too much....but its WAY more apparent in Holy Grail. I quite like Kamijo's voice actually-- I just think he's like...pushing for this vibrato sort of thing too hard. I don't know how else to describe it. But yeah if you listen to songs like Sympathia I'd say he sounds great (I love the way his voice sounds in that song), but that was back when he wasn't pushing so hard for this vibrato thingy.

Ha, I hope that made at least a modicum of sense. But yeah my opinion basically is: love Kamijo's voice, but I think he's pushing his voice to hard on Holy Grail and it ends up sounding strained :/

What does the poster that comes with the deluxe version look like? Also the CdJ one. I can't find pics of them anywhere.

^Thanks! I actually like both of those. I thought it would just be the album cover or something.

I agree with the Kamijo straining his voice thing. I still think on Jubilee, he wasnt straining it, but every since Philia and Destiny the Lovers, he has been trying to sing to high and add too much vibrato while going high. It just doesnt work for him and like others have said, in Holy Grail, it's very apparent.

I also love how he sounds in Sympathia, I still think that is their best ballad-ish song. It's just phenomenal. Love from a Dead Orchestra also has some very great vocal work. Im hoping he goes back to singing deeper in their next release and doesnt continue this trend.

Hmm, with their first cd Lyrical Sympathy I was excited to hear more. With Noble being their next release I was eager with it and while it has it's ups and downs, I enjoyed it. With Jubilee, I was enraptured and completely blown away. With Holy Grail, I liked the album, but it was hmmm, underwhelming. Technically it's played well, just the choruses in alot of songs really didnt grab me. I felt like alot of the verses were more exciting than the chorus in most of the songs so it kinda dampened the impact.

Masquerade, Judicial Noir, the 16 minute long song (at least the instrumental part), and a couple other songs were good, but half seemed like filler to me, sorta like Noble. At this point Im a little skeptical of Versailles, but it's only one ok cd that didnt completely impress me. Im still hopeful for the future

Masquerade. 8/10
Despite the music being written by Kamijo it is starting to grow on me. Unfortunately the chorus really drags the song down and kind of ruins it for me. It's like everything leading up to the chorus is great but when I get to the chorus I hit the back button and just listen to the beginning of the song again. If I can manage to get through the chorus the rest of the song is great. I don't know why I dislike the chorus so much, it's not THAT bad but kind of drags the song down. Could be so much more if the chorus was worked on a bit more.

Philia Neutral
Skipped.

Thanatos. 7/10
Not bad, it's nice to hear something written by Masashi. A bit mellow for my taste but I enjoy it.

Flowery. 10/10
Judging by just the name I thought this was going to be a shitty ballad but Teru wrote it and instead it's wickedly awesome and my favourite song on the album.

Remember Forever -100/10
Boring as hell.

Destiny Labers Neutral.
Destiny is dumb, the extra orchestrated stuff at the beginning was totally unnecessary and stupid. I'll just listen to the single version that doesn't have the extra pointless nonsense attached to it.

Dry Ice Cream 7/10
I like it but I don't love it, I'm a little mixed on this one. I may come to really like it sooner or later but right now I ain't feelin it.

Threshold 5/10
Filler track.

Judicial Noir. 10/10
Judicial Noir is my favourite old song on the album.

Vampire. 6/10
Vampire is pretty mediocre, the chorus is really bad. I want to love it but I can't. It starts out pretty cool but when Kamijo started singing it all went down from there. I really hate the chorus, why do I dislike the songs written by Kamijo so much? (Masquerade being a recent exception).

Love will be born again. -100/10
Wrrrrrrrrrrrry

Faith & Decision -100/10
The 16 minute long song should be renamed to boring as fuck. Honestly, I haven't been much of a fan of any of their long songs anyway so I wasn't expecting much from this anyway. They just can't seem to write good long songs like other metal bands can.

Teru should write more songs, I've love just about every song written by Teru. Hizaki is hit or miss, depends on how much Kamijo influence brings the song down. Kamijo can't screw up a song if it's written by Teru.

I've never looked up who wrote my favorite Versailles songs until just now. Turns out some of my favorite Versailles songs (Umbrella of Glass, Antique in the Future, Destiny, Masquerade) are written by Kamijo. Some of my other favorites are written by Hizaki and others by Teru (I'm STILL listening to Zombie xD). It's a pretty even mix. They've all got their own styles to bring to the table....so yeah, I'm not quite seeing how Kamijo's influence brings a song down. The only song off Holy Grail that I dislike is Faith &Decision, just because it's soooo long for NO reason, haha, and it's a Hizaki song. I like the overblown epic/romantic feel Kamijo brings to a song (for example, Destiny). Of course that's just my personal opinion ^^

Oh yeah, so I got the deluxe boxed edition (or whatever you call it) and the photobook that came with it....it's so cool! Maybe I'm corny but I love the quote "The world is like a Masquerade, Where the masked souls are dancing" 8D I mean....I have a habit of over-analyzing things, but I was thinking that the quote might be kind hinting that the "mask" a soul wears is its physical body. And seeing as we all have physical bodies, that's why the world is like a masquerade. I know, I'm hopeless ::kisaki::

EDIT: Also,

i completely agree with this. i find that Hizaki songs are quite predictable and i sometimes get bored with them. i was also really really disappointed to see there's only ONE Teru song on this album :<
whenever i get a new Versailles CD i like to listen to each song and see if i can tell who wrote it before checking the book....Teru's songs always stand out like a rainbow flag in a sea of boring ::meev:: even in song's that Teru doesn't write, i can always tell which part of the solos are his before seeing any video/performance.

also i watched the member edits of the Masquerade PV before they got removed from youtube...and the Hizaki one is pretty epic, the Kamijo version is awkward and kind of creepy.

I've found myself doing the opposite - I'll look up who wrote what and listen to Teru's songs first. He's never let me down.

Though the second part of Flowery's solo came out of nowhere, I have a feeling that's more Hizaki's influence than anything.

Anyway, Holy Grail was a complete hit with me. MASQUERADE and Vampire really stood out, as did Flowery (of course) and Judicial Noir. Love will be born again would have been better if Kamijo had stuck to Japanese. :/ I like the melody quite a bit.

I started out with Kamijo being my favourite composer, but I agree that Teru's songs are a breath of fresh air. Hizaki's songs are usually the least interesting for me. I liked his stuff for Hizaki Grace Project better.

Pretty much my feelings too, except that I was also really disappointed with Noble. It sounded just as unfinished and cobbled together to me as HG. At the time I excused it because they were indies and getting really busy, but now they're major so they should be in a position to get weaknesses airbrushed over quite easily. I loved Lyrical Sympathy and Jubilee, but after HG I'm losing interest again. HG just screams filler to me, what with the instrumentals, a b-side (Judicial Noir is an OK song but still, a b-side?) and one pointlessly over-long song. Perhaps they should tour less and spend more time on writing music.

^ Wow, they're going to so many places! I wish they would hit up the US as well, though, haha! I would love to see them agaaaaaain D:

I loved Lyrical Sympathy, Noble, and Jubilee. But as for Holy Grail...well, at first I wasn't sure about it.

I liked all the Destiny and Philia singles. The Destiny single has to be one of my favorites because I LOVED all three songs, Destiny and Glowing Butterfly and Libido. And when the Masquerade video came out on Youtube I listened to it a bunch before getting my album in the mail, so I liked and got used to that song, too.

The problem was once I got the full album and listened to the other songs initially I didn't really like any of them :/ I was fine with Masquerade, Philia, Judicial Noir and Destiny but those were kind of 'old songs' to me since I'd already listened to them before.

But since then I've warmed up to the new songs. I like Vampire, Flowery, and Remember Forever, Thantos (and Love will be born again....but that's my secret xD). Threshold sounds cool I just wish it was longer/had vocals.

Actually, the only song I dislike really is Faith & Decision. So long and for no reason xDDDD Kind of like my post just now, haha o.O

I'm going for sure since I may be part of the staff. The tourer annouced that they will schedule buses to take people at the venue since the castle is REALLY in the country side (which means no transpartation).
