So anyone listen to this yet? I completely forgot it came out last month actually.

Ive only given it one listen so far and I like it. I really loved Uroboros and this goes more in that direction where it has a religious sorta feel to it (hindi or buddist)

So far, on one listen I like Uroboros better but I havent listened to it enough to really form a full opinion. None the less, on the first listen, I really like it.

Dir en Grey is one of those bands where I loved Gauze, hated alot after that though there were some good songs here and there, and when Vulgar came out, they came back into the spotlight for me. Ever since Vulgar I liked almost all their releases besides The Marrow of a Bone which had only a few good songs IMO.

But Id definitely recommend this one[/url]

I checked out the videos on their official Youtube and they're still not my style. Their technique and production is light-years beyond what it was in the old days, and the high-quality grotesquerie is still in full effect, but metal, I guess, will just never be my cup of tea. Maybe metal's not for anyone who uses the phrase "my cup of tea" in the first place ::meev::
None of the sample songs had any of that Buddhist sound you mentioned, which is too bad because I was curious about that.

I totally forgot about it, too, until the other day. I'm still in the process of listening to it (I'm skipping around); I loved some songs while not liking others. Currently I like Uroboros better, this one has more metal in it, which I don't like. As for the religious feel, Uroboros had more of it, but I can still catch parts of it in this.

But I like enough of it where I will buy the hard copy, I just wish the cover for the limited edition was available for normal edition, or a poster at least. :P

I couldn't get into it at all at first lol

But it's good now. Probably the most inaccessible album of them all.
I still think Uroboros, Vulgar and kisou are far superior though.

I'm the opposite: I liked some of their early stuff and have hated or been totally indifferent to everything post Vulgar. I honestly don't get why people think they're so special.

Probably the afterglow from the early days when they really were special - being produced by Yoshiki back when people apparently still cared about such a thing, selling out stadiums when they were still indies, playing command performances in heaven for God Himself, etc. I guess they were the biggest, last, and most extreme thing to come out of the VK boom. And really, didn't everyone here first hear of them back from old times? Is there anyone who just got into them recently?

I first heard around the release of Withering to Death, which was when I started listening to VK.

And I find them special because they're the only Japanese band that actually tours through my state (and region). I just get really annoyed when Japanese bands do US tours and the closest they get to me is Chicago, which is like three states away. I'm not made of money. ::hora::

I have such a good opinion about this release. For me it is the best album they had since Vulgar (musically speaking). Yes, they are more into metal, but this kind of metal is more worked on. For example, I cannot recall about any good song since the old days where they even used guitar solos. This album is full of them and they are awesomely performed. Also this kind of music is sure to make them more recognized here in the west. I would not call it sellout because their style is constantly changing and they are getting more creative with the time, IMO.
They are experimenting with metal since like The Marrow of a Bone (trying to recall), and IMO Dum Spiro Spero easily goes over TMOAB and Uroboros, by far.

My favorite tracks are Different Sense and 欲巣にDREAMBOX.

I personally enjoyed the album quite a lot. I got into them when Vulgar was released and that's when they really started getting into the metal phase.

I can't wait for December when I see them yet again. lol

Ok, so after many play throughs, I really appreciate this album.

Id say out of all albums, it is most like Uroboros, but Id say it has a more cohesive feel to it overall. It all flows together very well.

I think there were some stronger songs on Uroboros, which I loved greatly, but Dum Spiro Spero flows together better.

Musically the songs are great and there are even some guitar solo's here and there. Vocally, Kyo is astounding.

My favorite thing about the album is how the songs have multiple parts to them. They dont stay one style and there are so many style changes within them.

My favorite song on the album is Juuyoku. I love it greatly.

I'm a bit surprised there is a post about this album. I was under the impression that this community, give or take a few members, were very much anti-Dir en grey ~but I don't come here regularly as much anymore so maybe dynamics have changed a bit? But there are only a few replies :)

This really brings my hopes up for this album. I love Uroboros and I'm sure it's overplayed my liking Withering to Death, Vulgar and Kisou. I thought Uroboros was the first time I felt one of their albums to be actually 'completed' (maybe they did too? ). I've only listend to Dum Spiro Spero once unfortunately and I seriously cringed at every song, not as much as Marrow lol so I haven't given it a second listen yet. I think I cringed a bit with Uroboros too in the beginning, so maybe this whole cringing deal is a good thing though. It's better than immediately liking something, because then it becomes something I can easily dismiss later, like pop, right?

I think it would be interesting to hear from someone who got into them after they released Marrow, and got into them through Marrow. I found out about them around the release of Vulgar, but I got into the music from the bottom up. It's kind of sad, but I honestly don't listen to anything but Marrow and Uroboros now, sometimes Kisou, but the other stuff someone has to mention it and then -maybe- I'll give a quick relisten. Otherwise if I feel nostalgia coming on I pick out only specific songs to play every once in a while. And for that reason, I believe there just must be someone who connects Dir en grey with there most recent releases and doesn't think "oh yeah, that band that was once vkei but now they're not" label that those 'from the old times' cannot dispell. I see them that way but I don't even think I'm an old timer. Maybe, a middle timer?

For promoting their new album, Dir en grey is collaborating with......

Wizardry Online ::meev::

Wizardry being that old-school dungeon crawling RPG that I like and no one else does XD

Yeah, ZAN is in there or something.

There's an alternate version of the song used in game I believe that has an alternate intro and additional guitar parts.
