Hello .
Since I like Malice Mizer and their songs bear resemblance to baroque/ classical music, I tried searching for these words online
"Baroque Visual Kei" but all I got was the actual band that's named Baroque.
Is Baroque a pre-requisite for visual kei bands, or is it a focus for only a few of them ?
I saw nothing of the corelation of VK and Classical music on the net.

Basically, I want more songs like "Baroque" "Ma cherie" from Malice Mizer . :> (I am aware that the band has ceased operations a while back )
I know Versailles have some classical music elements, but I was looking more for that Baroque style music very trade-markish of MM.

Thanks

I'll write more later but: it's only a few VK bands that do that. Most of VK's heritage is closer to hair metal.

EDIT: OK I'm writing more. Anyway, about Malice Mizer's baroque/counterpoint kind of sound, that's just something Mana came up with when he got the idea for Malice Mizer. He wanted to give it an old European feel. If you check out what else was going on in visual at the time, or even the stuff Mana did in his previous bands, it wasn't really classically influenced.

Apart from the obvious suggestions like early Lareine, have you tried checking out any of Misa's work? He's probably the most enthusiastic harpsichord user outside Mana's sphere of influence XD It's not really much like Malice Mizer though.

I was waiting for an answer like this. Oh well, I guess the blend of rock/ gothic / classical/ baroque sound that can be found in MM is original to that band alone. That's why it's so good. For the time being I will enjoy the darkwave-ness of Scharz Stein, then I'll check out Kanon Wakeshima, they were produced from Mana-Sama so I have to give them a listen . I will always listen to MM though 'cause really good music does not age.
Thanks for the answer .

I would almost venture to say that Misa uses more harpsichords than Mana o_O I'd recommend giving Aioria a listen, just because I think most of his other bands (particularly Babylon) are really hit or miss, and Aioria is usually very good and probably contains his most Baroque-sounding compositions (unless you listen to T.I.A.R.A., which is just dripping with harpsichord-y goodness)

Aioria threw me off guard though, as the vocalist is the same singer from Shelly Trip Realize, which is about as different from Aioria as you can possibly get O_O

Deshabillz might be worth checking out, I compare them to Tetsu era MM. As in bad vocalist with all that fug french goth crap that Malice Mizer did.

Larcroix Desphere? I think it is spelled is a 10 member something band that plays classical influence goth opera rock. Whether it's barque influence or not, I can't say. It's been a few years since I last listened to them.

Vallquar if you can stomach their vocalist.

You can also try indies like AMADEUS, AFTER IMAGE (I think those are the most neo-classical oriented band you'll ever find in visual kei) Syvar, Arege, VALDO CREUZ, SCIST, Eliphas Levi... there are a lot of other bands that I can't remember now, but none of them except AMADEUS are really into the classical stuff.

But they're all good to check out.

Art Cube has some roots on neo-classical too (Its also a Seiji (AFTER IMAGE/AMADEUS) band), but they're more metal oriented.

There is a member here who had a MySpace sometime in the past. I don't know if it's still active, but search for kayako project. It was really inspiring stuff. Very baroque style.

Man, Vallquar sounds so bad but somehow I'm still listening to their stuff after the fourth youtube video.. It's like Lareine mixed with that horrible neo visual kei sound.

Doesn't it make you want to throw up? ::meev::

I like it but hate it, the vocals are just so bad. If they could just be slightly better it would be a lot more bearable. I think it's because he's trying to force himself to sound cute and high pitch and it's not working at all.

Musical train wrest at its finest.
