OMG I FORGOT TO CALL YOU XD Okay, expect a call from me going "omgggggg WAAAAAH~<3" one of these days. I'm glad you had fun! :D

I was walking with Strickland today to his job and I feel bad because he's so down and exhausted lately. His RA job (resident assistant) is consuming his life nearly 24/7 and his second job as an admissions ambassador is just tiring. He's on call for his kids all the time, which they take advantage of, and he'll have a ton more meetings starting tomorrow and he's behind on his readings too. One kid won't speak to him in English and one girl waits at his door to talk to him for hundreds of years. Every comment, even when he talked about my outfit or asking all about me, was so sad-sounding. He was practically groaning so I asked him:

"What time did you go to sleep??"
"I got up at 7 today but went to sleep at 4"
"Why??"
"One of my residents was trying to kill themselves so I had to talk them out of it all night. It's only Tuesday and things are already starting off great. Can't wait to see what the rest of the week will bring."

BLARGH :( I totally made sure to be a great motivator and adorable though and he was smiling wearily by the end of the walk. I know he's lucky for having his housing/meals paid and for having a second job but it's like consuming his soul and he looks so weary, especially compared to his Shanghai self. I feel like we're back on earth now. @.@

This has to be my favorite picture of him ever! It was taken by my friend at the Banco Santander brunch ^^

Yeah what? And he's ok with this?? He's pretty nice then. If it were me I'd just swear at the kid in French and tell them I don't care what they're saying but if they get in trouble I'll be the first to report them. I hate freshmen and all those other losers.

Speaking of, while I was gone someone asked for rights to the application I manage, and my colleague told him he'd need to get approval from Mr X. The guy throws a hissy fit and is like, "No, I'm not doing that. My approval should be enough. I don't have time to chase people around" She wrote out this nice response saying she totally understood his position and would talk to the head of security and all that.

I came back, saw it, and closed the case telling him that he's the one who wants something, so if he doesn't have time to follow up on it then certainly no one else is going to either. So next time he wants something he will have to follow policy lol

I think I might be a bit bitchy.

Sorry not everyone's a huge ogre like you ::meev:: He is pretty nice and patient (and stoic)! He's not a doormat though. I have to ask later how he and that resident communicate haha. It was hilarious for me and Corinne to use sign language to say "My bathroom door won't open!" to the Chinese guards. I took them to a bathroom on the first floor and kept pointing to the door and opening and closing it, and they stopped taking me seriously and sent an old guard to see what was up. XD

My friend Jessica and Phil are finally a couple! It only took 100 years XD She was really thinking of going with Gabriel the Business Student over the summer, but she didn't.

Last week I was getting ice cream with Phil and other Shanghai pengyous. Someone brought Jessica up and he said that they went on their first date. I was like, "What are you talking about?? You guys went out a million times in Shanghai." He said this was true, and he asked "Isn't dating and boyfriend/girlfriend the same thing?" We asked him when he's going to ask her to be his girlfriend. I said, "Philip, this girl would come to my room to gush over a text message you sent. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?!?!" He was oblivious and surprised.

It's funny too since in Shanghai there was a point where he and I could have become a thing XD He didn't end up grabbing me, but he's a great person. I wondered why he didn't grab me. Part of why Yangzhou was interesting for me was all of what I thought about while at Slender West Lake on a cloudy day. I thought a lot about my future, years from now, what I want to do, and I was uneasy. Anyways, later on I remembered my first interaction at the Banco Santander brunch with Strickland was me by the window taking a picture of Shanghai beneath us, but my heel went through a grate on the floor. I started falling backwards, but I fell into Strickland's arms and he caught me. Then all our subsequent adventures. Even later, after all was said and done, I thought, "I don't think Phil would say 'Then eat your food Adela' from across the table." Hm... It's interesting how we choose people, you can't always explain it (I can't, fully), and I find it a bit mysterious. I enjoy thinking about the whole thing even now. He's perfect for Jessica though!

THE LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE
chinese-propaganda-poster.jpg

He's from the Sichuan area too and he refuses to speak English to m'lord for unknown reasons and now it's causing problems. Strickland and I are at the same level of Chinese, but I wouldn't say we're so great XD He was actually SO happy to be done with that language, but now he's dealing with this resident ::meev:: (I still don't even know how to say "door." At least I can kind of get around by myself XD It was harder in places like Nanjing, but I did it, WOO!)

I can't believe we had the same Chinese teachers too, but at different times. Laura and Strickland were even in the same Chinese class with my teacher in NYC, what the heck! XD I wouldn't have met any of these people had I not gone to Shanghai @.@ Most of them have totally different majors or are in the business school, a place I rarely ever went near, things like that.

I bumped into a good friend I hadn't seen since she left for Shanghai last year to study abroad. She was much more alive and happy and so was I! We were SO down last year and after making the "I'm happy!" charade during dinner we were both honest once we left the restaurant XD She had an amazing time in Shanghai, but didn't like Florence at all and said she should've just spent the entire school year in Shanghai. Aw man ::batsu::

My phone went through a cleansing in Shanghai and deleted all my contacts for unknown reasons. Then when I got to NYC it deleted every text message I ever had since I bought the phone! Oddly enough I wasn't completely annoyed or sad. What was sadder was turning off my Chinese cellphone for the last time.

I have a really weird question...
I'm starting to worry about the signed pictures that I have...I've heard a signature, with time, can "fall off"::shifty:: So I'm curious how everyone store their signed photos?
I'm especially paranoid over the Dada-drawing ::kisaki::
edit: I've googled and can't find anything on how to store paper

I've never heard of that, especially for hand drawn items.
But they sell special plastic folders for cartoon cells to preserve them and make sure the paint doesn't stick to anything.
You might look into one of those?

If that does not work, then you must forsake your family and the comforts of home (I think you can still keep company with cats though...just my own personal interpretation), take up your alms bowl and go forth into the woods on the auspicious 8, 14, or 15 of the fortnight. Once you have overcome the temptations of Ma and entered into the fourth jhana your attachment with your signatures will be broken and you will be free from rebirth into the jrocker signature realm. Thus have I heard.

I don't think you need to do anything special to store paper unless you live in the forests of Uttar Pradesh XD Just don't do anything foolish like stick it into an adhesive photo album or put it out in direct sunlight permanently. Some conservation types put their paper items in between special sheets of neutral acid-free paper but I think it's probably overkill If you're not dealing with a fragile old manuscript.. I keep most of my paper items in one of those hanging file boxes you get at Staples.

You can have them heat laminated (between 2 clear plastic sheets) if you're that worried about fading. IMO, I think a clear plastic bag / sheet protector would do just fine.

I got a job working at a super cool costume shop. I was looking for work for like over a year... I love getting dressed up to go to work. I can wear whatever I want. Every day I dress to the absolute nines and nobody gives me shit for it. I could not be happier.

I keep my beloved Kathleen Turner autographed photo in a sheet protector in a zipped up Powerpuff Girls binder XD But just don't put it in front of the sun or anything. Years ago my father sent me a black and white photo from one of his travels in Europe, he was standing at a port watching ships, and he wrote a message for me on it. It faded a bit away since I had it on my night table by my bed. My bedroom had a big window and so the Miami Beach sun got to it at times.

So my mom and Cerceaux are ogres. ::meev:: I was flabbergasted that my friend and her boyfriend decided to dress up like Prince Philip and Princess Aurora. I was like, "THAT'S MY MOVIE NOT YOURS~~~!! ::batsu::"
https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hph ... 4776_n.jpg

Cerceaux said my friend's boyfriend looks like a math teacher while my mom said half-jokingly he looked like a janitor with that grey outfit ::meev:: I said, "He's supposed to be Prince Phillip" and she's like "LOL ok." Gawd. But it must be hard to compete with PERFECTION. *nerd*
I wish there were better AuroraxPhillip pictures. They keep showing that "Aurora is shocked" one. Yeah, I know what it feels like to have some princely figure pop out of nowhere behind you, but they do so much more than that ::meev::

Ugh, I just remembered how at that horrible lunch I had some weeks ago with that guy who wouldn't let me pay, he asked me "What do they dress like in China?"

"Uh, they wear... clothes..."
"They don't wear uniforms?"
"No they wear normal things."
"But they're communist."
"... Uh...*not sure if joking or not*"

I don't even know what I was doing there now that I look back on it ::meev:: I was spiraling those last few days! I don't even recognize who I was at that time XD

Acctually, I said a couple of months ago to my sister that I'd never be able to have a pet or a tiny child because I'd go berserk if a cd or demo tape etc would break ::gaku::
For the moment I store all normal-sized photographs in a photoalbum (one of those you're supposed to have cute pictures of family and friends in, mine's full of bands X'D) but I should really do something about the Dada drawing...the annoying thing it's a bit bigger than a4, so all my folders are too small, and B size isn't that common here :/
I heard the thing with a "signature falling off" from a girl who sold a signed copy of Voyage years ago. She said parts of Kami's signature was cracked and that small bits had fallen off...but maybe it was just him using a really weird pen ::shifty::

I used to be a professional framer - with time, the air and acid (used in most everyday paper products) can damage or fade/discolor print/color/pen/marker etc. If you intend to frame it, you need to specify "preservation mounting" which means no tapes will directly touch the work, and the frame will be sealed with the proper mounts and dust cover on back to keep humidity/bugs out.

If you do not intend to frame it, you should be storing the work between two pieces of acid free foamcore board, or at the very least two pieces of acid free mats. normal foam/cardboard etc contains acids that will damage the prints over time. You can ask for acid free cuts from any framing shop or fine art store. Just get two pieces that are bigger than the work (they can cut it for you), sandwich the work in the middle and tape the edges shut. This is the way we stored valuable artwork in the shop.

Thank you so much :) I'll check out the closest framingshop ^^ I didn't even think about these things until, like I said the Kami signature , and a guy who worked with storing documents worked part time at the same place as me.

James: "Girls who wear bikini jeans are sexy."

I was researching Chattanooga, where Strickland unhappily lives in Tennessee (he's a bit embarrassed about his Southern drawl coming back) and it seems like a small, quiet Southern city with not a whole lot to do (in comparison to San Francisco, NYC, Shanghai, etc). Usually their commercials are like this: http://youtu.be/xrWTP4ElGl8
My dad: Good luck there!

But then I saw this: http://youtu.be/eQaSfUIUeyU
I started cracking up XD Why don't they advertise that more? ::meev:: My dad said "Oh God."

This last summer in Chattanooga he spent working 12 hour shifts at a Mexican restaurant. He was counting down the days until he returned to NYC. He'll never understand why customers would be so rude to him. At McDonald's the treatment was worse (people also assumed he was an idiot because he worked there) and he spent that summer pretending to be happy. He said Taco Bell was better though. I feel like I'm more sensitive to fast food workers now.

As he was talking I remembered how on our last day in Shanghai, after we let go of each other so he could get into the taxi, he couldn't even look at me as he got into the car and sat down. He still teased me from the car about eating my McDonald's and I laughed, I said I'd eat my food, but I was already starting to hold back my sobs. I can't even describe how nervous I was, and excited, while walking through Washington Square Park to see him. And his face was just adorable when he saw me.

(In Shanghai I became super, super polite, maybe because my friends taught me Chinese etiquette. In Shanghai I was in a taxi with a friend going to a restaurant and I mentioned, "Hm I don't recognize this area haha" My friend practically yelled at the taxi driver "Do you even know the way?? Do you?? Well WE'LL SEE!" I felt SO embarrassed and sorry I even mentioned it. The taxi drivers there were always nice to me and were surprised when I said "Thank you!! (emphasizing the 'you')" when they said they'd take to the address I showed them. I was super grateful for even that.)

Anyway, I still wonder why people are rude to waiters/customer service people. Someone in my family is like that often. I'm still embarrassed over how curt I was with a Subways guy the end of last year when I was having a particularly bad day.
