I'm guessing most know that Kamijo will release a greatesthits cd with songs from his solo aswell as Lareine and Versailles.
I'm just a bit confused, if it's the same old ones or if it's new recordings of them... he mentioned on twitter recording old songs and making them as new....but there's no official information on any sites as cdjapan etc... what do you guys think and will you buy it?

It was incredible!!!

Kamijo greeted us at the entrance to the venue, then greeted everyone and we took a picture with him.

During the concert he had problems with the microphone, a little after the middle of the concert he hit his head, down the stage.

Unfortunately after that he had to stop the concert, asked us to sing with him throne (without instruments or microphone) Kamijo has a very strong voice, everyone in the room could hear it loud and clear without a microphone.

So is Versailles coming back or something? Looks like they're having some kind of reunion show but I don't know if it's a one-time deal or an actual comeback.

Cool!
If they do another US tour I will totally go see them. I was kind of bummed I only got to see them live once before they broke up.

No more 15 minute songs though please, ugh. ::gaku::
I feel like part of their downfall was their insistence on doing all these samey-sounding "greatest rock supersong everrrrrr" things. There's no reason for a rock song to exceed 5 minutes in length.

Ugh, yes. Their songs started sounding the same to me and I just did not want to listen anymore. (And I don't think I've ever loved Kamijo's voice.) But I still get the Revenant Choir stuck in my head from time to time.

LIGHT THE FIRE OF REVOLUTION
WE ARE VERSAILLES

Wow XD

I guess that's what I don't get about some of these bands. They make it sound like they're doing something REVOLUTIONARY and the GREATEST SONGS EVER. What is with these ceremonies? I'm laughing.

If they go to New York then I'll see them because I like Hizaki. I LOVED Hizaki Grace Project and his guitar playing there. I didn't even mind him having songs of just him playing because I loved them. And I liked his solo songs with Fu~ki singing.

EDIT: OMG I'm re-listening to all the HGP songs and AHH I still love them XD

I have no problem with songs being over 10 mins long; There just needs to be enough original material in the song to keep me engaged and interested, and Versailles never did that (with the possible exception God Palace). Plenty other bands can do that (Rhapsody comes to mind) but I think Hizaki just writes overly complex melodies and counter melodies on top of each other that sometimes come out as a jumbled mess. The organ at the beginning of "Philosopher" comes to mind. The melody is all over the place o_O My favorite song by him is definitely "If... Curfew". I met the vocalist at a concert once and he was surprised that I recognized him from that song (He was going by Ageha when I met him as the vocalist of LOGIQ.)

Long songs are pretty much a requirement in metal (with at least 1 10 minute+ epic finale) but they are normally long because of all the movements and parts, as they are trying to emulate the feeling of a symphony. Versailles just seems to be long for... the sake of being long... o_O I'm reminded of a quote by Roger Ebert about Battlefield Earth: "The director, Roger Christian, has learned from better films that directors sometimes tilt their cameras, but he has not learned why." I feel that about Hizaki. He has learned that better composers write long songs, but he has not learned why. "Gargoyles, Angels of Darkness" by Rhapsody clocks in at 19 minutes, but it doesn't feel nearly that long to me. Every part is unique, it doesn't repeat itself too much, and it's engaging all the way through. I love every minute of it! ::k::

For someone who has never listened to Lareine before, where would you recommend they start?

The first two albums: "BLUE ROMANCE" and "fierte no umi totomo ni kieyu". That should get you most of the imperishable classics.
As an alternative to BLUE ROMANCE, picking up the two "Reine de fleur" discs is a good way to hear most of their indies output. But it is, of course, more expensive.
