My favorite facade is the thin veneer of a modern, 21st-century global city, layered over centuries of ongoing squalor and misery. Most people don't notice it on their first visit, but when they do... BAM! They never forget it.
He showed me old townhouse ones that were very pretty. I love old buildings ::squee:: In the future I'd like to live in a tall apartment building again, but those townhouses are actually really nice.

Off topic but I used to think mine was an old building, but it was only built in the last ten years! I only thought it was old because the facade was old fashioned and it fit in with the rest of the block, but alas.

I was going to write about this Japan thing that has been irking me. I thought I was totally off the mark when I saw my teammates papers, but I WAS NOT! YAHOOOOO. Wow, I feel such relief!

omg, I was loading up at Youtube video and the advertisement was a 2 minute long video for Aladdin the Musical and it was SO SWEET ;_; I totally forgot about it and I NEED to see it now XD Shannen said that she liked it, but not the songs they added in. I usually don't like when that happens, but I'll give it a shot!

Spent most of the weekend car shopping ::batsu:: But it is now taken care of, at least for another 3 years.
One of the places I went, the sales guy just wanted to talk about transmissions the whole time XD

I'm just imagining your old car at the junkyard singing the Worthless song... you evil man!

"Worthless" is the last song of the movie The Brave Little Toaster sung by the Junkyard Cars. Each car sings about his/her life story before he/she gets killed by Crusher. Because of this, it is frequently considered as one of the darkest songs in Disney films, alongside "Hellfire" from Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Despite its sad and depressing lyrics, it is somewhat fast-paced, giving it a feeling of anticipation for nine of the Junkyard Cars as they face their deaths. It also sets the scene for Toaster and his gang's final tribulation.
My favorite parts XD:

I can't take this kind of pressure
I must confess one more dusty road
Would be just a road too long

Worthless

I just can't, I just can't,
I just can't seem to get started
Don't have the heart to live in the fast lane
All that has passed and gone

Worthless (And there ain't nothing you can do about it)
Worthless (Pardon me while I panic!)

I once ran the Indy 500
I must confess I'm impressed how I did it
I wonder how close that I came
Now I get a sinking sensation
I was the top of the line, out of sight; out of mind,
So much for fortune and fame

Once took a Texan to a wedding
Once took a Texan to a wedding
He kept forgetting, his loneliness letting
His thoughts turn to home and we turned

I took a man to a graveyard
I beg your pardon, it's quite hard enough
Just living with the stuff I have learned.

Once drove a surfer to sunset
There were bikinis and buns there were weenies
Fellini just couldn't forget

omg the last car rolled into conveyer belt into his death out of his own free will omg I CAN'T DEAL.
Apparently the Texan car and the hearse carried the same man and that's why they were crushed together AGHHH.

Lisa and I met up to work on our interviews where we're acting like investigators working on the deaths of some Amazonians involved in some logging conflicts XD She's nervous because she's never done interviews before and she thinks I'm the all-knowing one because I took the skills class and I like doing interviews.
She actually knows about Three Kingdoms and she called it it's Japanese name. She even called Zhugey, "Komei" XD Woah. She thinks I know a lot about Japanese history because I read things like The Tale of Genji and the Tale of the Heike, Noh plays, tons of old manga, etc. XD

I went to a NYU alumni event that was the kickoff for their new Latino alumni group. The heads of the umbrella alumni program said they told NYU they needed space for these groups so NYU responded by building new rooms. So now there are Latino, Black, Asian/Pacific, Indigenous, International alumni groups that are forming with cool events. :)

It was fun, I met new people, and I saw people who I hadn't seen in years. Renan, one of my fellow scholars, and I talked for a while. Of course we all signed up to learn more about being part of the Latino committee!
We met an alumni (alumnus?) named Lucia and we told her how NYU spoiled us scholars to get us to attend XD Renan talked about the cruise and dinners and I said NYU had someone waiting for me at the airport who then took me around to different places like Toys R Us because I said I wanted something Hello Kitty. The whole weekend was a blast, I made lifelong friends, and I knew I HAD TO GO :P
Lucia seems like an ambitious girl and I like her. She loves how many responsibilities at work she has and her company sounds pretty cool.

Renan and I walked to the subway together and we passed by NYU buildings, noting which ones had changed. Not much has changed though, at least not any major changes. He's applying for medical school now and just finished some interviews. It was so nice to see him again and we want to organize a scholar get-together, hopefully soon!

I've been listening to "B-Movie" pretty non-stop the last couple of days... I love it!
I keep wanting to sing, "Who will go to the cellar down below, trouble is bubbling in the brew."
(will there ever be an animated movie referencing Vincent Price again...)

That is so cute! I didn't know he wanted to be on Scooby Doo XD I remember him primarily as Egghead when there were Batman reruns years ago.

radioactive EGGS.

(I also think he was handsome without makeup or costume on... >_> Especially in his black and white days and 1960s color days <_<)

I'm going to feel like such a nerd in screenplay class. We had to fill out these character thingies that basically had our character's goals and fears and strategies, actions in each act, things like that, and I'm SURE mine sound so nerdy. XD At the same time, I really like the way the questions are organized in a table.

The depressing story girl is going to read her script out for us though so I am so looking forward to it. I CANNOT WAIT.

who will go to the cellar down below, trouble is a-bubblin in the brewwwwww~

You should do it like "The Eye of Argon" - pass it around to read, and when the reader laughs he has to pass it on to the next person ::meev::

I just wish he had been in a better Scooby Doo series... XD
Speaking from my full capacity of an official Scooby Doo aficionado, many people claim that Scooby Doo jumped the shark long ago with cheesy guest stars, reduction of the original cast, and the inclusion of Scrappy Doo, and I can't *fully* deny that, but to me this series introduced the most completely intolerable character in the expanded Scooby Doo universe: Flimflam. Flimflam was the kid in the yellow sweat suit and holy frijoles if that kid isn't the most irritating creation of the Hannah Barbara partnership to ever stain the screen! Even Tom Ruegger (one of the leads on A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, etc...) called him the product of a focus group asking for more kids in the show...

Scrappy gets a bad rap because of his enthusiasm and spunk, but when you think about at it, all he wants to do is catch the monster, right? (Well, clobber the monster, but you know...) And when the monster appears, he's the ONLY one who doesn't consistently run away. He's the ONLY one who is consistently trying to accomplish what they set out to do in the first place.

But even I have to admit, this is amazing:

You know, even as a little kid who would watch anything animated, and indeed watched a ton of irredeemable junk, I never liked Scooby-Doo XD That was pretty much what you'd watch when there was nothing else "for kids" on.

This sounds like a cry for help XD

I really liked the first 4 seasons as a kid, but when they started leaving the gang behind in favor of Scooby/Shaggy/Scrappy-centered episodes, I felt the wheels starting to fall off the car... When Flim Flam was introduced, the show officially jumped the shark XD (I was even willing to forgive the celebrity guest stars. Who could say No to Mama Cass, Sonny and Cher, the Harlem Globetrotters, and good ol' Davy Jones?)

I rarely saw Scooby Doo. I think it was probably because some other show was on at the same time. I didn't mind Scooby Doo though even if I wasn't the most involved person and I think he's fine XD

We went over the depressing show during Animation class and I don't know if I'm a jerk or what but I didn't think it was great. It was more "run of the mill" than anything. The main character is a mess and we're watching her be a mess. It was confusing though because I think the author wants to "keep us guessing" as a way to keep us hooked, except it doesn't work that way for simple things such as the character's occupation. It wasn't some major plot point we were left hanging on, like the mysterious noise in Rochester's mansion Jane keeps hearing. We know our protagonist is an artist from the log line, and that's the ONLY reason I knew, even 13 pages into the screenplay. My thought process went: "Why is she drawing? Who is that girl? She stepped on a pizza slice on the floor? Oh they're dating? They're breaking up? Why are they at the cancer center? What's going on?" I still don't know what was going on other than the main character is a mess. It was just being overly vague, I think as an attempt to be "deep," and I didn't care enough to know more... XD That's just my opinion.

We didn't go over my character breakdown because we could only get through half the class for some reason. SIGH. I wanted to be critiqued.

God, tomorrow I have to go to NYU Law for a course I have to take to prep for the ethics exam ::batsu:: From 10AM to 3PM... That's like my China IP Law class ;_;

It was fun doing our "investigation" of the Amazonians killed XD Lisa and I were pretty great, if I do say so myself, and we got rave reviews. Lisa and kept giving each other thumbs up during the feedback time. We were the only ones who made an attempt to dress up too. I don't care if I'm being parachuted into the jungle, I must look professional. We interviewed witnesses, NGO people, a governor, a whistleblower, etc. We did it all on time and got most of the information available.
Something funny though was during the jailed witness interview she had a translator speak for her. She didn't want to speak to us at first and so I said we can try to help her by referring an attorney to her, but we can't make any promises. I offered her some water and she said yes, and I actually took the water bottle I got from yoga and gave it to her. (Lisa: Nice having a real prop handy!) So the witness would say something in her language and the translator would tell us something ridiculously short, like, "Yeah." This happened a couple of times, in the reverse too, and then I said, "OK can you tell me everything she said?"

It was funny because when I translate from Spanish to English I notice that I shorten what is being said without thinking about it because usually there's so much to remember as the person is speaking to you XD I totally saw that happening here ::meev:: During feedback our professor said they did that on purpose and we were the only team who caught it XD

double posting WOO. Omg, I'm going to have breakfast with the VP of talent development at HBO this weekend! :D She is also in charge of their fellowships and diversity initiatives too. There was an application for a seat at the breakfast and I wanted to apply, but I thought maybe I was too inexperienced and someone else deserves it. So I let it go for a while.
But within the hour of the deadline I made my application and wrote about China, Peru, photography, law school, the film classes I'm taking, and how I'd love to learn all that I can. Then yesterday I got the email saying I'm in! I was so happy I couldn't even concentrate in class!!
Man, I'm glad I got over my hesitation! JUST GO FOR IT~~~ ^^

Lisa and I worked most of the day on writing a press release for our Amazonian pals. It was titled, "PROTESTORS MACHETED TO DEATH DURING PROTEST AGAINST ILLEGAL LOGGING BY STARK CORPORATION." We included logos, cool formatting, and everything! We even made it look like Amnesty International's press releases with giant scandalous quotes at the center, and we included social media logos with a "Share this" thing. We were such nerds and were SO proud of ourselves for making it look very real XD We said we should be hired just to make press releases all day.
Lisa is a fun girl and I love how creative she is. She's an honorary penguin, but I'd have to learn the Japanese word for friend as she's Japanese. We're Japan teammates too and we decided that if we have to share hotel rooms in Japan then we'll be hotel mates!
This week we have to do mock radio interviews. That should be fun!

Lisa was messaging me and calling me frantically because we forgot we also had to do an "advocacy plan." We spent all that time doing the press release and forgot XD Now back to working on that...

Posting this here cause I don't want anyone who knows me in real life to know about it (except Hanachan).

My manager is leaving the team cause he hates managing. I drink green tea at work.
Putting the tea leaves on your face after you brew the tea is super good for your skin.
There is the backstory.

Today at 19h30 I put my green tea leaves on my face while at work.
I mean, France. So everyone leaves by 18h.
Also, whatever, everyone already thinks I'm a weirdo.

...a couple of my team members were still there though.
They came to tell me that I looked like I had vomit on my face and they were going to petition for me to be the next manager.
When they told me, a tea leave chunk plopped off my face onto the floor.

I don't think management will accept cause I come to work at noon.
My skin is very silky smooth right now.

End of story.

I always recommend doing a GOTHIC photoshoot in Aoyama Reien ::mana::
I dunno, what kind of things are you interested in seeing? Maybe you should check out some reviews of local attractions before you go XD

@CrystalAmmunition: TOKYO DISNEY.

Wow, so much happened @_@ I met Academy-Award-winning animators, movie people, filmmakers, even a lady who went from law school to Disney and had John Lasseter call her saying he'd like for her to check something out, and it was a few minutes of what would be Toy Story. I was melting when she spoke about this, and I got to talk to her later.

I was so nervous to meet the HBO lady I was trembling. I made a friend, but I forgot to get her contact information and she had to rush out. She was the only other person who made an effort to dress up (I was in full regalia) and so we bonded over that. She even wore a red suit jacket. We saved each other some seats to be closest to HBO Lady. She moved here from Ohio and she said she thinks Cleveland is "promising," haha. I had to ask. She just graduated from college and is now a waitress so that she can go to acting auditions. Man, what she's really doing that.
I really liked how positive she was and I think she's brave too.

The HBO Lady spoke and it was such an interesting discussion. My friend and I took notes in little notebooks like nerds. When we were asked if we had any questions and I had to mention her animated work. I HAD TO. I was so nervous (I was being filmed too) and said that I read about her and how she helped create shows like The Wild Thornberries, even working with Cartoon Network, and I think those shows are timeless, and I was wondering how she even worked on those shows and how we can create more diversity in animation in general.

Later I went to her and we talked! I told her my mom loves Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and she laughed and said that it was great to travel with John Hughes because they were a group of talented people. I told her thanks once again for creating animated shows because (again) those are timeless and shows people look back on again and again. She said she's tried to create other ones, but they didn't make it. I said it's okay, just the effort is great. I said animation is for everyone and she agreed.
She said she loves that I'm sort of doing a "dual" thing with law and art and I said thanks. She was all, "Call me!" She said it's a perspective films and shows need and they love to bring people from "the outside" so it's not always a bubble of people. We exchanged info and I was not nervous anymore! She also thought my card was gorgeous.
We also talked about video games because she said she loves playing them before she goes to work to relax and organize herself. I said I love video games too for that reason (I even do a lot of photography while playing Rainbow Six Siege), and she got excited and said, "What do you play?" I said, "Rainbow Six Siege" and she nodded with a knowing smile that I thought was hilarious. She also said to pursue my interests and not a job position, which I think I'm going to keep doing.

I also met Jamie who happened to be a law student from Rutgers and he thought the classes I took and am taking now are so interesting and he wrote down the schools so he can try them too. He was really kind and we were so similar it was crazy.

I went to the Animation Leading Ladies event which was also cool. First, that Disney lady who was also a law student who was into Disney blew my mind. I was dying in my seat and writing down what I needed to say after the event was over. She gave me great advice and I was so happy just to even meet her, good Lord. She asked me the million dollar question about Disney and I said, "YES."

I met a girl who was also nice who loves animation, but writing for it and not drawing. I totally understood. She and I got great advice on it from the panel. I told her about my animation screenplay class and wow she thought that was so cool and wrote down the information. I had to mention it because it seems straight up her alley.

So at the event I was Googling the panelists on my phone and I looked up Zoya. I read her Bio and it said SHE WORKED ON THE MOON AND THE SON.

I had to meet her and I saw her in the hallway after the event. I said, "Hi, did you work on The Moon and the Son?" She said she did and I said, "Oh my gosh, you beat Pixar!" She laughed and she was incredibly nice. She thought I was SO INTERESTING which, I don't know, I guess I need to accept these compliments? She thinks I'm so "marketable" too, oh man. I even said I can research the development process of The Brave Little Toaster for hours.
She asked for my card and I gave her one (I gave everyone I met one XD) and she said we can talk anytime, just to email her. She also told me about local animation lovers groups here and NYU groups dedicated to it, and she said I can even start my own because I complained that, "How am I going to see any of these people again?" Her boyfriend agreed that the animation people in NY are scattered.

I went to an event afterwards which was interesting, but perhaps because I was not fully interested in the lifestyles of the people talking I found it kind of a downer. XD

I'm so overwhelmed by everyone's awesomeness in general though. ::batsu:: ::batsu:: ::batsu:: I can't wait to get filmed and be posted on social media and the law school website next week, oh lord. :P
