They may have a sample blouse at Sakura-Con since they have them at the shops like KERA. But they are only taking orders right now so not likely they will have any for sale right there.

I was able to look at the wallets today and they are nice. I actually like the blue with silver one. I would have bought it if they had it. They are nicer material than the smart phone cases. The cases are nice (now I have one but won't be using it at this time) but I don't know how well they hold up.

I will probably have a couple extra of the new Moitie socks at Sakura-Con if anyone needs to buy something for the Tea Party. It's because KERA and Pierrot have very little in their stores and I wanted one of the buy so much get this item. Right now they only have headbows, smart phone cases and the new socks. That's it.

I disagree, the construction on them is lackluster and I found essentially the same wallet in my local department store for ¥1,000 and wallets with better construction for slightly more.

In particular is the turning on the edges, this is especially notable on the blue/silver mini wallet which results in the interior having a sloppy ugly grey/brown contrast.

It isn't quite as notable on the black, but still unacceptable at the price.

You can even see it in the promo-shots.

UglyConstruction.png

The lining is just a single colour, not the MmM custom fabric and the zippers felt stiff and low-quality, even the pulls were lousy, a straight rectangle for the mini wallet and an oval for the larger. A coffin-shaped pull or something stamped with the MmM candelabra would feel more fitting.

They really just look like they mass purchased some wallets off Alibaba and screened the logos on. Again, that would be fine if they were a fraction of the price, but at this price they are competing with Artherapie whose products actually have the couture construction that Moitie was once known for (and are made of genuine leather, not PU).

All that said, I'm still under the Moitie curse and want one.

The ones I saw and handled looked fine. Everyone has their own opinions. If you hate it so much why buy it. People spend thousands of dollars on purses so prices also reflect demand. Saying one will buy it because of the label explains part of the prices. I'm done. I'm not here to argue yet that seems to happen often when I post here.

An opinion would be a preference for a certain colourway or style, which everyone is welcome to. Poor construction is an objective fact.

People spend thousands of dollars on purses so prices also reflect demand.
I don't see what point you are making here, especially given this a reservation product, so scarcity, supply and demand don't apply.

Saying one will buy it because of the label explains part of the prices.
and people pay those prices for a label because they expect something and at these prices that includes Moitie's legacy of couture construction and material, not a screen print on a generic wallet. The Ornament Table handbag is the same, an aftermarket bag with a screen print and a MmM label sewn on the interior.

Additionally, I assume the new blouses are being made at the atelier, but what is most baffling is the absence of Moitie's signature custom lace.

If you hate it so much why buy it.
I didn't buy it, I wanted to, but I can't justify spending that much money for what it is.

I like Moitie and like a lot of people I have spent a lot of money to support them. Moitie has become a brand in name only and doesn't reflect the quality of its legacy and the high standard that I hold the brand to.

I'm not here to argue
That's good, I would be worried about your health if you were only here to argue! But this is a forum and a discussion thread in particular so you can't be surprised when actual discussion takes place.

Big M posted a photo of the models from the Moi-même-Moitié fashion show.

Maybe I've become jaded in my prehistoric age, but only a few have the Moi-même-Moitié-feel to them.

Am I the only one who thinks that the third girl from the right looks like gothic Lois Griffin from Family Guy?
I keep imagining her with the voice lol (she's cute though)

As someone who has been surrounded by racial bias and stereotyping for as long as one can remember, can I just mention how loud I squealed with joy seeing the lovely, dark mademoiselle in this lineup? I've been acquainted with a few PoC in online EGL/EGA/Cosplay groups, all sharing their struggles of being a non-white/asian lolita, but to see one actually featured in Moitie with Mana himself just makes my heart melt!

For me the whole point of (hypothetically) wearing Moitie would be to dress like Mana, but I can't see Mana wearing most of that stuff.

So.... dressing like Mana circa 2000-2002?

Or at least dressing the way he might dress a band member or concession stand operator XD

Yes! It makes me happy. Growing up I was convinced that I'd have to be a.) white, or b.) a light-skinned Asian to pull this style off. Not that I'd do it now (I'm too poor for this shit), but having more melanin-rich people in this style makes EGA/EGL look more accessible :p (in theory anyway. The cost is another story...)

Not to deliberately derail the topic, but you all seriously need to look up Islamic/hijab Lolita if you haven't already. CUTEST. THING. ON. THE. PLANET.

I'm probably the worst to comment on the topic because I never have been a real fan of Moité, nor Lolita, BUT, when I first got into Malice Mizer I also looked the brand up because I thought Mana's style was awesome. I found several items I could imagen having, but due to the price I never got more than 3 pair of socks and one overskirt (which I ironically purchased within the last 7 years). The attraction, for me, was like you said to sort of wanting to dress like Mana. I Think my MM fandom was so strong I also began looking at his brand. I didn't have the economy at the time, so my Money Went to buy cd's and other merch instead though, which I'm happy for now. All Mana fans who adore Moité can say what ever they want, but it's no high quality Products. You pay for the name and probably for the high production cost since many items was made in Japan, not sure about now :P But normal brands, non japanese or Lolita related would have much higher quality with those prices. It's embarrassing when I look at my overskirt, the full price for it used to be 10 000yen+ (maybe 130000, can't remember) and the buckle is very plastic:y (and don't get me started on the overal quality of the fabric). Any other brand would've had it in leather for that price. Everything which is supposed to look like leather is in plastic, and we all know plastic will get damaged, usually sooner than later, so it's pretty awful how they produce and sell plastic bags for silly amounts of Money. I work for a Swedish designer brand (of the cheaper kind but still pretty expensive) and I also have a backpack from them, it cost a bit below 10 000 but at least the straps are all in leather.

I think you were already too late for the glory days. We need some experts in here to confirm (maybe @faith might know?), but I suspect Moitie hasn't been handmade by ancient Japanese artisans for a long time now.

BUT: we don't have to rely entirely on speculation! I looked it up and you can still see a lot of the old-time stuff on archive.org (with prices):
https://web.archive.org/web/20021021083125/http://www.rakuten.co.jp:80/moi-meme-moitie/all.html

A few individual items:

https://web.archive.org/web/2002102...kuten.co.jp:80/moi-meme-moitie/100095/134765/ - this one has the best close-up I found if you want to compare workmanship.

So what does everyone think? Was Moitie really better Back In The Day or is it all a bunch of oldman grumbling? XD

One last stinger: lousy picture of Moitie's first ever handbag, bringing us full circle on the "logo slapped on" discussion ::meev::

I don't Think so...I just checked my cheap (or not so cheap) overskirt, original price was 13500 (although it looks like if it was sold on H&M it probably would've cost ~2500) and it's made in Japan. I bought it in 2014-2015 so I Think it's from 2013-2014 because I bought it on sale.

That handbag was acctually kind of cute.

Incidentally, even though I've been relentlessly running Moitie down for their use of polyester, it seems like it's actually a tradition going all the way back to the beginning. There were more items made of actual fabric back then (according to the archive links) but definitely still a fair share of 100% synthetic garments.

My skirt is acctually a mix, 70% wool and 30% sweet polyester. I agree about the polyester though.

At least it is custom fabric and not just an after-manufacture screen-print. :P

From the Sakura-con Q&A panel, they mentioned trying to source factories to produce the lace-top socks and bat bags again, I can't imagine how much they are going to charge for that. :P

The new wallets are almost ready to ship out - https://www.instagram.com/p/BhV_st4D856/

Did anyone order one?

---

It would appear that Moi-même-Moitié made an error and mixed up the labels on the pass and card cases, I wonder how much of a catastrophe that is going to result in.

---

Wallets are now in stock at physical stores, and pre-orders have now shipped out.
