So you boys bought it on CDJapan? I ordered it on Malice Mizer official site. Mana's twitter has "mail to Mana" section about the bluray, so I guess we can write something to Mana about it, it's too expensive for a bluray and a photobook, ask him to release a DVD or ask CDJapan to lower the price and give the customer a coupon.

And I finally found a Samsung bluray player, but I found that the quality of the disc is not that perfect, I tried it in store and I didn't buy it.

It's way too over-prized... I assumed it would come in a nice packing at least, that is not Worth 17000 yen. Buck-Tick almost Always release their live dvd's featuring a photobook, including live cd's as well and it does not cost 17000. Maybe I should blame it on MM being minor so they can't produce stuff like that cheaper due to the quantities? Same with the pamphlet they released, I got it a couple of weeks ago and it's ridiculous, so few pages for 4000! I'm gonna wait for someone selling the blu-ray, not cashing that up.

Finally got around to watch it.
I liked it, but I think it was a bit too short. I would've loved to see a 3 hour concert, goddamit. The band was perfect and the guest vocals were also good. Közi singing some Tetsu era songs during the Ziz part was amazing too. I kinda wish he had sang some more during the MM part. I love his voice. I guess I can't complaing about the song selection either, as they did do NPS NGS.
I was also a bit surprised that Ziz was better than Moi DIx Mois, though I did also love them doing MM.

And as meaningless and gay as it might be, Mana is still my crush and I kinda hoped he would be wearing latex during Illuminati.... ...::mana::

it was not very nice that someone uploaded bel air to youtube. my copy still has yet to arrive. i have heard the bootleg audio recording of the concert and I watched the video of bel air on mute so as not to ruin the experience of waiting for the BD completely. the suspense is crushing indeed. i am deeply regretting my decision to opt for the cheapest shipping method from cdjapan >_<

I still say "Bel Air" was the biggest disappointment of the whole disc, so you may not be missing much.

Why do you think that? I thought the version was very faithful to the original. It doesn't have the power like the merveilles live, but it was still a very good interpretation IMO.

Oopsy!

To be honest, I thought Közi was one of the best vocalists of the show. We all know him as a guitarist, but I think his seraph interpretation was amazing and shows how good of a vocalist he really is. I was surprised.

I also think Bel Air was good. Still, like it or not, Gackt's vocals can't be beat. I would say Illuminati suffered the most by the guest vocals.
Overall, the whole concert suffered for not having any of the original singers on stage... Klaha can't be that busy, right?

And yeah, seriously, Közi was lit. Why didn't they make him sing more? My brain exploded when he sang Seraph. Not only was I so happy to hear it performed live, but Közi did it justice. I guess I can die a happy man now.

Moi Dix Mois was also good when covering MM, but why didn't they do Beast of Blood? Wouldn't that be the most obvious choice? If I remember correctly, they even recorded a song that was more or less Beast of Blood V2 on their first or second album.

Probably because they did it a bunch of times at previous "Deep Sanctuary" reunions, if I remember correctly.

Well, well, well.. the package finally arrived today and I just couldn't resist immediately watching the concert (ah, the joys of "working" from home). I hadn't previously ordered the Rock & Read book, so I added that in when I preordered the Blu-ray. Is it bad that I thought it was better than the Deep Sanctuary photobook? ::teef:: That was my major disappointment for sure. It's not only super short, but you almost need a magnifying glass just to make out some of the backstage photos. Would it have been so difficult to add a few extra pages and maybe even throw in some never before seen rarities from the Malice Mizer days? It almost makes me think there was some sort of predetermined page count Mana had to stick to to keep the printing costs low.

As for the concert, overall it was a very satisfying nostalgic trip on my first viewing. Did anyone else think that there were some sound mixing issues? I couldn't tell if it was my tv or the concert, but I had a really hard time hearing the vocalists over the music at times. It was good to see some new footage of Moi dix Mois, but it seemed way too short and didn't include any of the new songs I've been hearing about from their recent sets. Maybe Mana should just bite the bullet and release a maxi-single at this point if he doesn't have enough material for a full album. After all, how many years has it been since the last release? ::hora:: I loved the Malice Mizer covers though; especially Mayonaka, since it fits with the metal sound a bit better than Gardenia.

I kind of drifted off during ZIZ.. I'm not really a fan of their music to begin with, but I was just ready to get to the main attraction at that point. I kept thinking that that guitarist's outfit looked like something an old granny would wear

The Malice Mizer set ended up being pretty darn solid, despite some of my favorites being missing. I think I loved Madrigal and Ma Cherie the most just because of how playful and lively everyone got. I cracked up when Mana started running around the stage in those platform shoes while handing out the flowers again! I wished that someone had been on vocals for Au Revoir, though. I think audience participation is just one of those things that has more impact when you're there in person, but it was somewhat of a let down watching it back. My biggest fear from the beginning was wondering how the guest vocalists would fit into the lineup, but I've gotta say they did a great job. I think the first guy was probably the weakest (his attempt to be seductive during Illuminati kinda fell flat), even though he pulled off the Tetsu look pretty well. Kamijo seems like he would be the perfect choice for a new vocalist if Malice Mizer ever resumed activity again. He kind of gives off a Gackt vibe and really had some powerful stage presence. I'm not ashamed to say that I teared up a little at the end when it looked like Mana, Kozi, and Yuki were overcome with emotions while gazing out onto the cheering audience. Did anyone else notice that they were awkwardly teetering around when they walked off stage together? I think those platform shoes could very well lead to an untimely accident if they're not careful :P

Overall, this release is definitely for the superfan or completionist. I think the quality of the photobook could have been given a major facelift for the high price of admission. There's no real justification for this being so expensive (the Mana tax is real). It is disappointing to hear that the MCs were cut out. Why weren't they just added to an extras section? It feels like there were just some missed opportunities, you know? Despite some of those disappointments, it was more than satisfying to see the old pals back together - especially for those who haven't gotten the opportunity to make it over to Japan.

Well you have to consider the conditions he was working under. If he tried to cop a feel like Gackt did back in the day, I'm pretty sure a bolt of lightning from the sky would instantly immolate him ::mana::

All of them really, that's why I call his band the "drunken housewives" XD
Like, I'm glad Kozi's having fun in ZIZ but he's one of those artists who really needs an editor, not a cheering section.

They already did back in the "bara..." live, remember? And I doubt Kozi's balance has gotten better since then ::kozi::

"Don't even think about getting too handsy, kid, or I won't hesitate to call my attack bats down from the concert rafters." ::mana::

Haha, that would make a great band name! I kind of imagine Kozi waking up late the day of the concert, grabbing a whole bunch of random dudes off the street and convincing them to put together a costume at the local thrift shop last minute. ::meev::

Ah man, I completely missed that! I'll have keep my eyes peeled next time I watch.

I think Flowers has also thrown a sneaky reference to Kozi's mishap while playing pool > . <
The higher the platforms.....the harder they fall.

I suppose I'm in the minority here, but I think Ziz was arguably the best live band of this concert. I still dig Malice Mizer more, of course, but it actually got me interested enough to check out Ziz releases.
It seems that Közi's post-MM output in general is more interesting than Mana's. Even during Malice Mizer he seemed to be making the more experimental tracks. Though I did feel a sudden urge to buy some Moi Dix Mois recordings as well after seeing the concert.

Also, Yuki was so obviously smiling through-out most of the set. I guess Mana and Közi have been active enough that they still know how to control it, but Yuki just seemed so happy to be on stage again.

These are all the new MdM unreleased songs:
  • Destruction
  • xxx
  • Beast Side
  • Twilight Flower
  • Material Death
  • Diabolos et Angeli
  • Embrace
  • In that Hill
  • Ghost Whispers
  • Blanche
  • Spring song
  • Summer song
Add the typical Mana intro and outro and you have a new album.

Not sure if you could see any traces of it on the live, but Kozi mentioned in an interview that he fell down backstage in the "bara..." concert while running around in his giant platform shoes.

This is probably closer to the true ZIZ origin story than anyone realizes ::meev::
