No! Are they any good?
Yes.

The first one was on the Sega Saturn and was only released in Japan. There was a PlayStation port that was translated, but the graphics are inferior to the Sega version.

The second one was released on the Dreamcast, the reception for that one was a bit more mixed but I really liked it. The Dreamcast version was also ported to the PS2, but again that was inferior to the original.

They were both 'remastered' and re-released for PC and Switch recently, but I haven't heard good things about those versions, though there have been a lot of patches released which might have addressed some of the issues.

I like when they make old games available for new consoles, but I hate when they remaster them (as in changing story etc). I bought Final Fantasy 7 remaster just because I'm a Final Fantasy nerd but not sure when I'll play it XD I'm scared they have changed too much. I acctually hate that they changed the battle system! Maybe it seems old fashioned now but I prefer the old ones over the active ones :/

Final Fantasy 7 remaster
Do you mean remake? There was a re-release of the original edition with some of the edges polished and there is also the full blown remake for PS4.

I'm scared they have changed too much.
I think you're in for a shock.

Grandia has the best RPG battle system I have ever used. It is a shame that the creator died and the series didn't continue.

Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem were my go-to series (also used to play some Tekken, Soul Cal, Guilty Gear), though in recent years I've found myself less enthusiastic to game at all. HOWEVER, if Legend of Dragoon or Final Fantasy VIII were completely remade, I would spring on that like no one's business.

OR if Capcom would just release a new Ace Attorney...

The battle system is not the problem here. They actually did some rather big changes to the story. Not only the pacing, but the actual story. Like, the game is "aware" that it's a remake and they do some alternative timeline crap.
That defeats the whole point of the remake, in my opinion. Many of the old fans dislike it because it changes things from the original and the new fans are confused by the game because they haven't played the original, something the remake expects you to have done.
So what is the target audience here? No one. Which is a shame, because the game is beautiful, plays well and sounds amazing.

On the other news; I bought some game maker software from steam. haven't even bothered to try any of them out. Argh. Too lazy to make music, games or anything these days

What hardware is that emulating?

I've been playing the old Fighting Fantasy books again. Currently slowly making my way through Temple of Terror currently.

That one was emulating the PC-8801 computer. A lot of these games were on different obscure and disfavored Japanese computers.

You should upgrade to Japanese gamebooks, the height of sophistication.
I made a translated version of Pantacle for the computer, but it's pretty rough and it seems like there's at least one bug.

I've got The Apple of Neverland lying around here too, which is also famous, maybe I should give it a spin.

But as for video games, I just finished up with "Link's Awakening" (not the new remake), and now I'm playing "Sutte Hakkun", the unreleased Gameboy version from the recent Nintendo leaks.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to challenge that level yet. They're pretty expensive too!

Was it your first time? That has always been one of my favourite Zelda games, along with Link to the Past and Oracle of Seasons (I've never played Ages, unfortunately).

I remember getting the DX version for my Game Boy Colour when it was released, I'd only played A Link to the Past and I was aware of Ocarina of Time, but my child mind never connected that they were the same series until much later in life.

Speaking of which, did you see that the guy responsible for the GDEMU ODE is making an ODE for the FM Towns system?

1300Y isn't that expensive XD But the sequels will indeed cost you a pretty penny. It seems like a lot of the most renowned classics are getting modern reprints.

Was it your first time?
No, but it was my first no-death run on an authentic black-and-white version. Accept no substitutes!
I was surprised how much of a direct sequel to "Link to the Past" it was supposed to be. The instruction manual even marked moves that weren't in LTTP as "New!" without explaining in what sense they were new XD And of course one of the last boss' phases was just Agahnim ::meev::

Speaking of which, did you see that the guy responsible for the GDEMU ODE is making an ODE for the FM Towns system?
No, even I disfavor these computers highly XD Pretty much I only touch them at arm's length when there's some game I just have to play that was computer-only.

Well, outside of that one. I found an illustration collection, full of awesome 80's and 90's covers, in a second-hand store a long time ago. I tried looking up a few of the books but they were all over ¥3,000.

Truly the Dark Souls of Zelda.

I'd never heard of them until I read about the ODE so I have no experience with them. The hardware design looks cool at least.

This is the one! Turns out there is a flipーthrough on YouTube!
So these are all from light novels? That's one of those places I won't tread XD Art's pretty cool at least.

I've been hooked on 超魔界村 recently. I had the Super NES version when I was a kid but was never able to finish it.

and I still can't finish it.

Played through the re-release/retranslation of "Metalstorm" on NES the other day (on normal mode, anyway)
http://retro-bit.com/metal-storm
This new version has all the cinematics and dialogue from the Japanese version included, so it's really the ultimate version of the game. Seems to be sold out everywhere though, so you'll have to go to Ebay if you want it. Still cheaper than buying either the US or JP original releases, which are now insane.

Also upcoming is "Zero Wing" (you know, "All your base..." ::meev::)
