Haha I would NEVER have guessed that came from Shrek.

But either way, Hanachan says no onions, no croissants, and no rainbow cucumbers.
He says he's like a traditional Japanese guy who doesn't like changes and decimal points.

My 10 years of living in France have taught me that we need a revolution.

We always did it this way so we always have to do it this way. Please understand. :|

That's also a very acceptable French response. Not croissants yet, but eggs, flour, tarts...give it time.

I don't think that's my humor, the Shrek thing, tbh.
For me, the epitome of fan-made is still either marukaiteTE...

Or Code Ment...

I think it's more notable for the sheer absurdity rather than the humour of it. It blew up a few years ago and became 'a thing' on the internet.
Some of the guys at my old workplace used to play it a lot throughout the week. Just like the Harlem Shake, Call me Maybe, HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA and Gangnam Style.

I think I'm just an Old People who doesn't get Gen Z humor.
I mean, I like absurdity. But I guess it has to be unexpected absurdity.
Like, I kinda figured where that was going right from the beginning so maybe I'm a perv, or maybe it's my 10 years as a VE bangya, or wtvs.

The only thing that made me laugh was the giant poster of the random black guy among the shrek paraphernalia cause why? lol
If it turns out he was a voice actor of something or other, or a producer, etc then it will immediately become unfunny.

These days there seems to be some sort of competition to out-do everything that was done before and everything just becomes progressively absurd as a result.
I think Tik-Tok humour is the best example of this, like I saw a video the other day of someone just cutting a jug of milk in half and of course the milk just spills out everywhere.

So were there any good April Fool's jokes this year? I feel like the date came and went with little fanfare.

How about the joke known as 'my entire life'?
Nothing good on my end. One of my friends said he was moving to Zurich, but it was obvious he was lying.
No one moves to Zurich unless they're damned for eternity.

Something happened today and I felt like I should announce this everywhere.
No one should ever feel embarrassed, or need to justify themself, for breaking out into a happy dance in the street.
Never! Dance away minions!! ::dix::

...unless it's a funeral, and then it depends whose.

Hah, reminds me of someone I knew who was in a conniption because their middle-eastern friend was moving back to the middle-east and now they needed to find a new middle-eastern friend to maintain a diverse circle of friends. At the same time it messed with my mind trying imagine living in such a way that one would select one's friends based on some sort of arbitrary criteria rather then, you know, actually being friends with someone.

...unless it's a funeral
We can leave that to the Ghana pallbearers.

Isn't it kind of the current trend though? To have friends from all wakes of life to show you're open minded,
without participating wholeheartedly in their culture or it's appropriation.
Look at me complaining like an old lol

I really do resent that though. I resent that some day, some non-Indian person might even think to criticize me for wearing the kurtas and saris
that I picked up in India when I was there for my Indian friends' weddings.
I know I'd lose it and I don't like losing it.

...obligatory warning to Hanachan: that's not an invitation for you to be that person. I'll post more picks of diwhy book messes. I will.

Maybe I just see people as actual people and not Pokemon to be collected for weird diversity points.
Like these people will fawn over having an African friend but give you the fluoride stare if you ask them what the difference between Tutsis and Hutus are.
The same deal with shifting goal-posts in regards to their sexuality; first their gay, then bi, then pansexual. Then they get drunk and start messaging you at night about how they can't stop being attracted to masculine men.

I picked up in India
You mean you actually went to India? You can't just visit a foreign country and talk to Indian people. That's a form of violence.

I imagine they'd say something like that, no matter what happens they find a way to flare up. I've found it is always the least 'worldly' people that are prone to that way of thinking.

What's more, she is unrepentant! Not in the least observant of what INDIA is an acronym for ::meev::

And yet she doesn't want to go with me to see all 937943 Asokan rock edicts.

Funny you should mention pokemon.
While I was in Kolkatta, I wandered off alone to catch some actual pokemon and concerned Indian citizens kept coming up to be like, 'Are you lost? Are you SAFE?? What are you doing in this field alone at dusk, whatever it is stop doing it.' XD
I also rode the night bus and tried to pet the dirty street cats, and everyone flipped out about that too. Wtvr.
It's not as dangerous as everyone says it is (though I would probably be more careful if I valued my life a bit).

I see people who are too into current diversity trends as being mostly on two sides. Some are just attention whores or looking to fit in.
But I think others are powerless? Angry? Unsure of who they are and what will happen?
We all are because the world's messed up and unfair, and most of us can't do anything about it. So I see it as misdirected discontentment.
It's easier to get mad at complete strangers for the current hot topics than it is to be angry at and fight against the people in power, who are the real problem, and affect any real change.
Just my 2 cents though.

current diversity trends
Actually, everything I read indicates that the "current trends" have been going on at least since the '80s, and the brief period of sanity in the mid-90s to mid-00s was a historical aberration. I'm still not entirely clear on how it happened.

Also, I've got some serious flipping out to do at you later for pogoing solo in India XD

I already told you about that. They said there would be no boats, and then they went on a boat.
So I did my own thing.

Man do I hate boats.

I remember watching a lot of John Lennon documentaries a few years ago on YouTube and some of his "political activism" (using that term very loosely here) made me think that he would fit right in with the political climate of today.
Especially the fact that he was a male feminist who used to beat his first wife and then cheated on both of his wives with multiple different people. Also lived in a mansion while singing about no possessions.

Speaking of the 90's, wasn't a lot of the grunge bands all about women's rights and pro-gay stuff? And then you had groups like Rage Against the Machine as well, singing about all sorts of injustices and taking down the government by rapping.

Have times really changed that much?

Maybe I'm overly cynical and jaded, but I honestly think that people who feel the urge to constantly prove their open-mindedness in reality have no actual moral values of their own. They're just riding the waves of whatever is hip and "trendy".
Having a middle-eastern friend just to have a middle-eastern friend is ironically somewhat racist in itself, but also really funny.
