I came across this fascinating list of forbidden words in Japanese broadcasting:
http://www.big-c.or.jp/~makichan/100420housoukinsi.pdf

A lot of them are obvious - don't use ethnic slurs, yakuza reverse-talk, or insults.
But then there are the ones like "rosuke" which is the Japanese version of "Russkie", which is going right into my vocabulary ::meev::
"ちゃりんこ" for pickpocket urchins, and "筍医者" for quack doctors (which we used to say in English in the late 19th century).
小人 is discouraged in favor of ドワーフ, including a suggestion to rephrase "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" that way XD
"An Indian never lies" is banned, but "All Cretans are liars" is still fine.
Another word for a spinster, forbidden for being a barbarous wasei-eigo as well as being discriminatory, is オールドミス

And "himo" is banned ::meev::

I'm in a pickle. I sold a couple of things on eBay back in 2020 but I wasn't able to send any of it due to the ongoing suspension of international mail services to various countries. Most of the buyers told me it was fine and to just hold on to the items and send it to them when shipping resumed. Here we are in 2022 and services still haven't resumed and on top of that eBay has archived all of my orders beyond a certain date, so I have no way to view their orders or access the contact details of the buyers to update them on the status or confirm delivery addresses (some asked me to confirm their address before I sent it as they would be moving in the near future).

So I have no idea what to do with this stuff. Should I keep waiting and then send it to the original addresses I recorded (even though I know those are probably out-dated)? Keep waiting in the hope that someone contacts me? Assume that the buyers have forgotten/given up on their orders and just resell the items?

Did you use Paypal? I just tried it and I can still look up email addresses for transactions I did back in 2018. You could try emailing those and see what happens.

I just found out that Rizzoli Bookstore still exists even after they shuttered their location on Billionaire's Row:
https://www.rizzolibookstore.com/store-history-about-us

I'll have to check this out next time circumstances drag me into the city again. It's not out of the question to just walk there without taking the plague-infested subways.

Bless their hearts.

Tried my first HIIT session yesterday. So far I'm just as pudgy as before but now I can't use my thighs anymore.

What web browser are you guys using?

I remember the time I switched from Internet Explorer to FireFox and being blown away by how fast it was at the time.

I use Firefox because I oppose Google in all its forms.

Of course it's something of an empty gesture since Mozilla is like 99% funded by Google as the fig leaf to pretend they're not a browser monopoly. But at least it's an independent codebase that doesn't phone home to Big Goog.

Same, firefox private windows. The farther from google the better, even if it doesn't do much.

Found out from my mother yesterday that I was supposed to be a winter baby, not a spring baby.
I was just too damn lazy in coming out lol
Baby me knew what was up.

I used Opera for a long time but I ran into too many compatibility issues that I ended up dropping it.
I've been using Brave now for about 2 years with no issues.

In otter news, I set my students some homework for the summer vacation where they had to record a video of them doing part of a presentation and now I'm seeing their faces for the first time as they wear masks in class and feels pretty surreal.

Not sure why I like this typo so much (or WAS it).
It was in fact, intentional.

In totally unrelated news, there are so many things about this picture that are irritating me. Inconsistent dress code and pose, weird spacing, some vests zipped up, some open, hats inside and the lobby as a background.

Hat and unzipped vest: Human (Kaioken)
Hat, zipped vest, and white long sleeves: Super Human

Don't forget the guy on the far left doing a half squat and looking like he is busting for a wee.

I had a bit of a surreal moment reading the news this morning as Gorbachev had popped into my head the other day, so I had to check if he was still alive.
