I think this deserves its own thread.

Get your party hats out American Gackt fans, the "mad aristocrat" is coming to a theater near you! ^^

Gackt, pictured above with Co-Star Josh Hartnett , will play in the 2009 film Bunraku, alongside other popular American stars including Demi Moore.

Many questions still remain, of course.
So far all we know is that he will be playing Josh Hartnett's "partner". Also it would seem that the Director Guy Moshe, traveled to Japan to personally ask Gackt to participate in the film!
The question of whether or not his lines will be in English is still up in the air though. I guess we will still have plenty of speculation to keep us busy!

The news can be found over on Gackt.com and Gackt&Dears
Information on the movie can be found on IMDB and the New Bunraku News Community: [info]bunraku_blog
Information on Josh Hartnett can be found on his IMDB Profile.

We certainly have something to look forward to in 2009! ^^:

Gackt.com announcement-

Gackt is set to appear in a Hollywood film! Distributed by Snoot Entertainment and Picturesque, the film "Bunraku" stars Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbour 2001), Demi Moore (Ghost 1990), and filming has commenced. It was Gackt's appearance last year in the NHK drama Fuurin Kazan as Uesugi Kenshin that garnered him Hollywood attention. Writer and director Guy Moshe had a burning desire for Gackt to play the role of Josh Hartnett's partner, and came to Japan in person to try to persuade Gackt to take on the role. Gackt was struck by the director's enthusiasm and committed to the role!

Gackt's Comments on Gackt.com:

Last year, it was an honour for me to be able to express a new image of Uesugi Kenshin in the Taiga Drama "Fuurin Kazan" for the world to appreciate. In the creation of a borderless world in the near future, to be able to express the Bushido Spirit in a role with my partner, main actor Josh Hartnett, makes me extremely interested.

More than anything, to have the director come to Japan himself and his zealous attitude in conveying to me that he wants me in his movie, touched my heart. That coupled with the director's strong feelings of my neccessity in the movie made me gave my consent.

In a line-up of big hollywood names, I want to prove my acting for the world to see. Please look forward to it. Another one of my dreams has come true.

Well, Gackt's hair sucks...but I'm not going to totally shoot this one down until I see more information on it.
I don't really know how big his role is, or how much screen time he'll be getting. He may have a fairly small part.
Example of this is "Rain's American film debut" in Speed Racer. Everyone's making a big fuss, cuz he's OMG RAIN, and he's on all the Korean promo posters, but he's not even in the trailer.

Lastly, Gackt's Engrish is awesome. Reference::gaku::

I've been lead to believe he is the main character along with josh hartnett.
He's listed right after Josh on all the castlists i've seen.
His character's name is yoshi.

edit: Note "So far all we know is that he will be playing Josh Hartnett's "partner""
This makes it seem like he'll take the role of sidekick. I'm thinking his role is gonna be a significant one.

Variety reports that Josh Hartnett has been cast to lead Snoot Entertainment’s martial arts action film Bunraku.

The 30 Days of Night actor will play an unnamed, revenge-seeking drifter in an alternate universe.

The trade says Snoot boasts the pic’s chockablock inspirations, which stretch from Japanese puppet theater to video games to German expressionism, and is billing the story as a spaghetti-Western-samurai-gangster mashup.

Guy Moshe (Holly) will write and direct, with filming to begin this spring in Europe.

Demi Moore has signed on for 2 indie movies.

(kyu edit: blah blah)

The second movie, Bunraku, will star Josh Harnett and Woody Harrelson along with Demi Moore. Written and directed by Guy Moshe, Bunraku is about a man (Harnett) on a revenge quest which snowballs into a much bigger task than he expected and Demi plays the enslaved concubine of a warlord. Interesting.

click me: Papier mache world? Also, I love the line about 'really interesting actors'. :P Also, this guy seems to have the IQ of a gold fish.

spaghetti-Western-samurai-gangster mashup. mamma mia!!!

I too think Gackt will be actually co-starring with Hartnett... for some reason, when Fuurinkazan came out, the though came to me about someone in America or Europe noticing him, albeit not that much for his acting skills. He had a LOT of presence in that, despite the overacting. So, it happened +_*, the director must have been quite desperate to just travel to Japan to offer him the role...

Nah, I don't think SKIN's out of the picture. I think Yoshiki and everyone else is busy right now, so Gackt's making himself busy with this. They're clearly already filming, and it doesn't take long to film a movie, so it should be in post production in the near future. The 2009 release date is probably due to all those animation sequences that were mentioned. Gackt should be free again soon. Then, hopefully, everyone will be finished with crap and SKIN can finally start up! In fact, if this movie doesn't flop terribly, Gackt being in this movie could help SKIN immensely as far as PR goes.

I hope this movie doesn't suck now. :/

I don't know how I feel about this. I am still working my way through Moonchild... *4 months and counting!* ::gaku:: It will be entertaining at the very least.

I rather see him become a major movie star and win an oscar than with the S.K.I.N. nonsense *_*
Sorry, but I never ever begun to grasp that "project" ...
I tried, though, I read as much info as was available... I even joined a SKIN forum, hm.. I tried to be enthusiastic about it, but ... I found out SKIN was and is nothing.. and what I enjoyed the most about it was Gackt's spikey hair and Sugizo's guitar +_+ (not the sound, the instrument :P) so I hope Gackt has better ways to "make himself busy"? l ::shifty::

I actually rented it from Netflix, so if you can't find a download it shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on an actual copy.

And I thought it was alright. Gackt was pretty charming in parts of it.
