I have been a MALICE MIZER and visual kei fan since 2012, which means I missed out on a lot of events. One of these events are the two 2006 compilations: "La meilleur selection de MALICE MIZER" CD and the live performance DVD. These two releases seem very disappointing to me, especially the DVD: Not providing ANY new material. The CD also seems disappointing since it only covers the Guck era, and is just a mix of merveilles, Voyage and two singles, which we all had and loved before.

I'm curious.... what were the initial reactions to these, back when they released? Are there any topics buried deep in this forum where members express disappointment towards these?

    I'm curious: Enlighten me, oldies!

I think we might have had one or two newbies who accidentally bought them ::meev::

As a completionist, I bought them... But I waited until I was able to get them at a fraction of the cost.

I bought the black album with the blu ray, just to have it around.
I have a bootleg copy of the white DVD, it doesn't really worth a penny, the menu is boring too.

I saved up and bought the singles collection when it was announced. Overall it was pretty neat, the booklet was pretty sparse but I liked the pictures. I'm a huge fan of Bel Air so getting the film on DVD was a bonus (and much better quality than the bootleg DVD compilation I had at the time).

Unfortunately, as was common with the release my music box mechanism was busted. I was also pretty disappointed to discover that they released a Merveilles music box not too long after, which I would have much preferred, but alas there was no way I could have afforded it or convinced my parents to buy it for me.

I just realised you were talking about the 2006 compilations and not the 2004 compilation.
    Damn I feel old.

While we're on the topic - does anyone know what the deal is with that black thing that was released with the compilations?

Here it is. Looks like if you bought all three you could be among the fifty lucky winners of this gorgeous storage box.

200 lucky runner ups could receive some posters.

I got La meilleur selection once I moved continents and got myself a credit card, and this would've been in 2010 so the lottery offer of the box no longer applied to me. It's the first MM-related CD I ever bought. I don't regret it but at the same time, I'm kicking myself for buying just that when Merveilles/Bara no Seidou were still available on CDJapan, and now they're no longer available there ::kiwi::

At the time, I chose to buy it over those albums because of the range of songs it had. I liked that it was quite diverse in including Voyage and Merveilles music (though clearly not diverse enough to include Tetsu and Klaha songs for obvious reasons). But yeah, I'm so annoyed that I didn't buy the actual albums when I could afford to do it lol, since those mean a lot to me more now that I'm older.

So yeah, in short--as a fan with a newly-acquired economic power in 2010, it was a good decision to buy La meilleur selection, but it doesn't resonate with me as much than I if I actually bought the albums.

I got the music box thing with all the video content and I dont regret it at all! Having everything in better quality than whatever i had downloaded at the time was amazing! Im not sure if I bought it exactly when it came out or a bit after, but it was definitely worth it.

You have to keep in mind that there weren't very many good rips to download at the time, and nothing good on youtube (did it even exist then?) so this was pretty good at the time. I became a fan in 2003-04 so I was just in time for that release (and the m10m tours in europe, just sad i missed Közi back then)

And my favourite is still the Guckt era, so I'm happy with it x)

Edit: if we're still here in another 15 years, i bet someone will come around and ask how disappointed we were at the DSVI bluray too, just wait for it! ::meev::

Edit 2: had to go check the box, because I didn't remember what was on it, but this is what I got (from CDjapan as well, probably)

I was disappointed since I opened the box from CD Japan and I will remain disappointed to the end of my life.

The main reason to buy any of these things was to finally have the Sur de TV special on DVD
Other than that, it was a cash grab for those of us who are collectors and need to have the complete collection. I think there were also people who had gaps in their collections (like the singles) and needed a few songs to beef up their music library.
