If it sounded like New Sodmy, I'm hypedinertia wrote:I'm glad he's going solo. As much as I like Malice Mizer, I wouldn't want him to work with them. The styles don't seem compatible.
I went to his reception event on Saturday and if what he sang and hinted at then is any indication, those of us who've been following him for years through multiple bands are going to love his solo work. People who became his fan recently based on him being the singer of Versailles may not like it.
The untitled new song he just wrote is GORGEOUS and absolutely overflowing with everything I've always loved about his compositions. I can't imagine that song being performed by Versailles. Or rather, imagining it makes me sad, because it's a delicate melody that requires a light touch with the arrangement, and that wasn't one of Versailles' strong points.
His singing style was different and I'm happy about that too. In Versailles it often sounded to me like he was forcing himself, and it was limiting his expressiveness. His singing on Saturday was much more natural, allowing the textures of his voice to show through in a way that I thought made it much richer. He was already exploring that approach on the Japanese version of "Love will be born again" last year so I was hoping for more of it in the future, and so far it's very promising.

He'd just poofter it up or something
No offense to Kamijo or poofters. I appreciate that which they do separate from Malice Mizer.

It said the single would be relased in summer, so guessing he's working on that?flowersofnight wrote:What is he doing these days anyway, is he having a solo project or not?
inertia wrote:Musically, I hear a HUGE difference in both Jupiter and the tiny excerpt of Kamijo's song compared to Versailles. It's not the style -- on a very superficial level that's similar -- but at a fundamental level, the whole idea of "what are the most important things in our songs?" is completely different. With Versailles, gradually I felt more and more like I was hearing a battle in their music, like the vocal melodies and instrumental arrangements were at war with each other for the listeners' attention, rather than working together. IMO it weakened the music and prevented songs from living up to their full potential, that all of them were showing off their technique as individual musicians instead of stepping back occasionally for the sake of making a GOOD SONG.
Obviously neither Jupiter nor Kamijo solo has that particular tension, for better or worse. Even though Kamijo's clip is short you can hear that every part of it is designed to build suspense towards him and the vocals, rather than distracting from it. Jupiter is all about the instrumental side, the musical decorations and the embellishments. Versailles at its best managed to balance the two approaches, but too often, especially towards the end, it sounded like clashing egos.
