Hey there, i just got this album, and i think it really is amazing :)
Comparing this album to Horas third release of an album, i much prefer this. (i think i am biased though, as i always like a song with vocals)
So what did you all think of it?
Personally my favourite song is Rose Jail. It reminds me of songs like Profane Gene and Creeper, it's like a mix of gothic sounding and sexual. And he screams :D I think this song stands out especially because the overall feel of the album is much more uplifting than Kayas previous work (with songs like walkure and glitter arch) apart from the song Rose Jail, which is like enraged frustration in the sound.
Second i like Paradise lost, also because it sounds unique and catchy. (I always prefer a song that i can distinguish from an album easily, over a song that i don't really remember, as obviously it doesnt grab my attention as much)
Glitter Arch comes in third for me. I noticed his voice sounds different in this song compared to the rest of the album, it's a little higher than i'm used to. But i like it!
I'm not really a fan of remixes, but i actually really liked the Kaleidoscope and Masquerade mix, the Masquerade mix isnt all that different from the original song, apart from a little bit of saxaphone at the end, but even that little detail adds much more ot the song. I prefer the new Kaleidoscope mix to the original song also, it's just great.
The one mix, and song that was disappointing is Psycho Butterfly. I can't even hear much of a difference, maybe Kaya changed it a tiny bit just as an excuse to put it on the album with the other two remixes lol But nah, i just didn't get that song much. I'm biased though because i was never a fan of the original song, and simply because this remix is basically the same, i'm not a fan of this one either. I would have much preferred Remains of mind, i love that song, it was my favourite off the two Kaya singles, even if not a remix, i so wish that would have been on instead of Psycho butterfly. Oh well!
But yeah, i really love the album. I'm sure i'll listen to nothing else for a few weeks lol

As for me, I really enjoyed and I'm still enjoying this album, is really marvellous; mystical (Paradise Lost | Hydrangea), trance (Rose Jail) and a Ballad (Silvery Dark). I highly recommend it for Kaya fans or not.
About the mixes, oh well, Kaleidoscope is a really enjoyable song but I prefer the first one.. Masquerade is ok, as for Psycho Butterfly ::hora::

I like this album alot. It's got great variety and doesn't get boring. Kaleidoscope has a nice reworking, as does Psycho Butterfly and Masquerade, with their cleaned up production and Masquerade's new ending.

Again, my favorite track is Rose Jail. Paradise Lost is very interesting, but it's another favorite.

Btw, didn't Kaya post up the lyrics for Rose Jail or something in his journal? Or did I imagine that?

I must say!
I am very impressed with this album. GO KAYA!
I hope with Glitter he makes it fairly high on the indies oricon charts.
I liked every song on the album. Kaya's voice is beautiful and clear. Not much else to say~
*goes to listen to more*

XDDD

Someone was kind enough to send me the CD as a tester, though I've not decided if I'm going to buy it yet. There. Someone said it directly. I got it through unnatural and evil methods that don't support the artist...

Kalm made me laugh with Paradise Lost.

I think I may translate this CD, if anyone's interested in the lyrics.
Is anyone interested?

At first I was like "huh I guess I'll buy it" and then I completely forgot...but now what with what people are saying about it, I think I will go ahead and buy it.

Just so everyone knows o_o

I admit I've avoided Kaya's solo work until now... the reviews for the singles were a little underwhelming and for some reason I was under the impression that he'd gone happy-fun pop. But I heard the album, and I'm pleasantly surprised and impressed. It's really good. My favorite track is Paradise Lost; it's really quirky. Silvery Dark also stands out because it's a ballad stuck in the middle of dance-style songs.

I've also realized how much I missed that man's voice. ::kaya::

YES. ...If you have time. :B

It upsets me greatly my CD won't arrive until Tuesday. Really, really looking forward to Rose Jail, though.

If everyone's interested I'll be happy to translate then, but there's a problem. First, I'm not sure he won't post them on his site in English or something. Also, as I mentioned, I was holding of on ordering the CD until I decided I really really like it so basically...
I have no lyrics.

If someone scans them/sends them I'll do them, definitely.

If not you'll just have to do with the poem I wrote myself XD
It's on my website and I don't suggest it.

I'll give the album a write-up when I get back home. For now I'll just say that the remix of Kaleidoscope is annoyingly inferior to the original.

Really? I could hardly stand the original and thought the remixing was a drastic enough improvement to make it tolerably able to listen. My reasoning isn't really because of any particular nitpick; I only didn't care for it very much, for some unfathomable reason.

That said, I extremely enjoyed the album. On a first listen, the last two songs seem a little plain, or Kaya-by-the-numbers after what's come before, but returning to them not long later helped me to fully appreciate them. Full marks, and most likely the best release by any of the -scape- artists for 2006.

I have finally given it a good listen, so now I shall review!

Kaleidosope -glitter mix- is pretty weak. It's like the composer tried to remove the dance and replace it with trance. The result ended up sounding hollow. All the interesting lines, most notably the awesome basslines were removed, so it sounds like just.. a beat, some violin sounds, and Kaya. That sounds really empty.

Walkure sounds like things Kaya's done a million times before. Hora doesn't seem to expand often. There's not much to say about it. The whole thing's pretty predictable. It sounds like a Schwarz Stein song.

Paradise Lost is very interesting. It has a strange.. Kalm-like sound to it (Of course! Kalm wrote it!). Kaya's voice somehow matches the music well, and it adds this.. out-there feel to the song. It's very unique sounding, and though Kaya sounds out of place, he sounds so.. at home with the music. It's hard to explain. I'm glad to hear a different kind of rhythm with Kaya, though. Something that isn't the classic dance beat. So, this song is definately one of my favorite Kaya-related things.

Psycho Butterfly -slightly slower mix- is just as the original was. Pretty cool, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Rose Jail is the most awesome song, other than Modulate God I've heard from Hora's PC. ::hora:: The song sounds insane, pounding, and yet comforting. The one part is awesome, where he hits high notes, then later in the song hits the stronger notes, then for the finale, screams it. I love this song the most on the album.

Silvery Dark is a ballad. I skip ballads. It's pretty, but I don't like ballads. Therefore, I have no opinion, really, on this song.

I never really liked Masquerade.. It's alright, but just not my cup of tea.

Glitter Arch bothers me. It's pretty average, and sounds alot like Hora's HEAVENZ.

Hydrangea sounds so.. good. It's very beautiful to my ears. The guest vocals were refreshing, and the melody was almost too perfect. It didn't go in some direction that I'd rather it not go into, or have one or two great notes, then suddenly a sour one. It's wonderful. I can't say enough how pretty it sounds.. This sounds somewhat retro, like late 80's-mid 90's sort of. It doesn't work well as a closer on an album, but during a live, it would bring me to tears, because, Kaya would definately give it his all. It would be so moving, with the combination of the beautiful music, and Kaya's emotion. The overall feel of the song is like.. it has that feeling like I've heard it before. It's a wonderful feeling-- it gives me wonderful little scenes to paint in my mind. In that same way that some other songs do. It always makes me absolutely love a song. I always picture this night time scene, and it's raining. But not the typical TV bad rain.. But a gentle, calming, soothing rain. (Wow that was cheesy. ::meev::)

I didn't know if I'd like this or not, but as a whole, I really like this album. I'm sure I'll be warming up to the songs I didn't like so much, and that's always a plus. You go, Kaya! ::kaya::

Orchid: The original had a very distinct swagger to it, and the remix makes it sound more two-dimensional, IMO. But aight. :)

As for the rest of the album, "Walkure" is filler, but it is good filler. It sounds like a Schwarz Stein song. At this juncture, I have not been as remotely as impressed with Kaya and Hora's solo work as I was so enthralled with Schwarz Stein's music, even in the face of almost overly-simplistic writing, so the throwback comparison is meant as a compliment.

At first I was afraid "Paradise Lost" would be another "Masquerade"--aka unadulterated crap--but this shows more thought than Masquerade, a festering boil on Kaya's life, does. Kaya is making my day on this album with all the vocal harmonies, which I find myself adding myself when I listen to Schwarz Stein. That makes me work less, and making my life easier should consume Kaya's every thought, should it not?

"Psycho Butterfly" is also filler, to me, but not as good as Walkure.

THE TRACK AFTER THIS IS A BALL OF POOP. As with every strong opinion I put forth, this is a matter of fact, not conjecture.

"Rose Jail", however, calls in the night janitor, and tries so hard but the chorus is so annoying. This one reminds me of Schwarz Stein in a bad way. I like the ending, though, in spite of myself. No real reason.

"Silvery Dark" is lovely. Gorgeous. It feels like a lot of thought went into this one. This song finally shows us that Kaya actually does have a smidgen of vocal diversity. I love, love, love this song, even if the chorus doesn't really stick in your head immediately. I think he could treat the song a little better if I vocal-coached him, but as it is it's stellar and I give him massive props for pulling in a song like this. You'll have to excuse me; usually when I review albums I listen to about 30 seconds here and there just to remind myself how it goes, then I move on; but I'm going to sit here and listen to the rest of it.

...

"Glitter Arch" is way fun. I really like how his vocal tone in this song; much brighter than anything he's done so far and in fact I prefer how he treats this song. God bless 'im for the subtle vocal harmonies in the chorus. It's a generic sort of tune, admittedly, but try not to boogie down when you listen to it. TRY. YOU JUST FAILED. GO HOME.

Hydrangeas happen to be my favorite flower, so I was immensely pleased when the song turned out very unique and interesting. It's got a slightly darker (not THAT dark, you guys) light-pop edge (yeah, dark/light; shut up), and I think it's nice, overall. The verse melody can't seem to make up its mind, but it's not that intrusive so it passes my inspection, barely. The chorus isn't terribly special but in terms of the flow of the song it does its job. I like the lead line right after it. I LOVE the beat that kicks in toward the end, too. It's a weird song; not exactly catchy but more atmospheric than I would have expected.

The presence of OLD SONGS and BAD REMIXES OF THEM, NO LESS frustrate me, but in Japan we say "sho ga nai" and sadly I guess that's the case. At least he didn't put "remains of mind" on here. The last three tracks are very, very strong and you should all give them a round of applause right now. I'll wait.

It's a relatively solid album. I can't say "solid", but I have a feeling this will grow on me. :)

I've only heard 2 songs, but I just wanted to say that Hora was quite obviousy phoning it in on "Walkure". The intro is just a ripoff of "DUSK" from Inner Universe, and the whole thing was just uncharacteristically lax.

"OK Kaya, just sing a cappella over the drumbeats here. I have basketball to play." ::hora::

EDIT: and I think it's worth pointing out that PROMINENCE, which came out after Hora wrote Kaya's songs, was much stronger and more original. So it's not like he's in a slump. I just think this wasn't a 100% effort on his part.

I think I'll have to give it a new listen, because apparently I missed the 'omgz great album' part :|

I pretty much only like 3-4 of the songs, and actually skipped a track or two (Masquerade was one of them, but I never really liked that song anyway, except for the intro), and the rest was only okay.

..yeah.. *rolls away to listen to it again*

EDIT// Relisten done. And it's still pretty much the same.
So yeah, overall: Good, but not a great album.
