y'know what's funny, I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say something along the lines of "set the blending mode to multiply" over the last two years that I've been using Photoshop, and I still haven't figured out what that means o.O
Well, I dunno about Corel (I only used it briefly for their amazing brushes, then went back to Adobe once I got my hands on 7.0) but in Adobe PS setting a layer to multiply is most often used when you have a black and white picture or lineart. By setting the layer with the lines/black on it to multiply, you can then insert a blank layer underneath the lineart layer and pretend it's a coloring book. It keep the black/dark parts on top, so you don't loose your linework.
there are probably better uses for it, but that's the only one I've ever used it for....
