Moi Dix Mois - Visual Sentiments

Ow, that sounded like the new single or something... Well, it's not. It's an art piece I made for a Dix fanart contest... The winner gets a ton of Dix merch, so you guess, I'm more than in! The deadline is... tomorrow. And I finally finished my entry in the last moment. I'd like to post it before I send it, though, if there's something wrong, tell me, I want to fix anything that bothers (please, hurry up, I have to send it until tonight... now it's 6 pm...).

Please, check the larger version, too, it's the one I'll be sending and I need to know if there's some colour mis-match, unnaturally blurry places, something else messed up... techical stuff. As for the idea... Don't shoot me, I know it's OOC, I know it's blah blah and bleh bleh but my point is, I tried to be original... What I like so much in Mana, Juka, Kazuno, Tohru and Shadow X being "embroidered"? Well... First of all, it's a new, unshown side of M10M. Some purely sensual side, some warm, but it the same time interdicting shade of the five. I'm sure most of the rest who would send their works will limit their minds to rearranging their dark, gothic pictures and only representing them through different medium. I think I have an... IDEA, and I hope it's at least a little good. Beyond the dark image, behind the curtains of evil and mystery... just pure tenderness and sensuality. Still mysterious and dark because of the prohibition of even uncovering it but, yet different. Like the sweetest emotion they hide so well behind all the blackness but no matter how deeply hid, someone who truly loves them will understand and penetrate it. The artwork I did is a more like a representation of the Mana, Juka, Kazuno, Tohru and Shadow X as feelings and not the typical darkness they are enshrouded in. It's really thin and fair to capture... Visual Sentiments indeed.

I'm glad I managed to put even Shadow X there. Assuming he is the "dark" Mana, I just liked the idea of Mana reflecting Shadow X in the water.

Well, care for a few opinions before I send it?

Well, i'm no paid critic or anything, but as the addage goes "I may not know art but I know what I like". And I like that... the reflection for Shadow X is what I think puts it over the top for me, and I mean that in a good way. Very stylized, sort of a romantic visage of the dark VK band and I like the idea very much. I'd say go with it, it's an amazing piece of work.

Aw, you sent it already. :[ Oh well -- nothing major, but since you asked (and critiques never hurt anyone): the hair on Tohru and Kazuno seem -slightly- less well-rendered than the other two. The spikey parts on Tohru are a bit forced/unnatural looking in that they all go at the same angle, especially on the tips where it's a bit blurred (you loose the "hair" feeling). I think the placement woud have looked more natural if you had done it more like Die of Dir en grey's hair used to be, with the spiked parts laying more naturally and free instead of making one side go all left and the other side go all right. It's too static and one-demensional. He also lacks little bit of depth/contrast in parts of his hair.

Same thing with Kazuno, lacking depth -- Juka's hair looks very realistic and "connected" to his head, with the strands tightly rendered, but Kazuno's is flat and not as contrasted, and it seems like it might be a little elevated off his scalp. You also get a bit blurry with the different locks of hair; it doesn't look as worked and refined as Juka's. It looks more like a wig than his hair.

Parts of the water also bother me a bit because it's so patternized (where it's reflecting the members). It would look more natural if it had more free flow and randomosity to it, without such straight lines between each set of ripples. It comes off like a filter as it is, which really detracts from the over piece, but I don't know what sort of caliber contest you're submitting this to, so it probably won't matter. From my experience it's only the hardcore digital artists that draw freehand that really look down on filters.

But that's going through it with a fine-tooth comb. Water's friggin hard to render, and so is hair. So, overlooking all nitpicks, it's quite excellent. :] Nothing jumped right out at me as "off", so that's a good sign -- it's lacks anything glaringly wrong and it's very aesthetically pleasing. Awesome manip. The lace looks great, the background and border very nice, and I love the idea of the dark Mana.

Good luck! You definately have a good shot at winning if they judge on technicality and creativity. Excellent work.

WOW!!! That picture is awsome.
White haired Mana looks just a tad bit strange in the lip area though, but probably not your fault just the photographer's.

OT but...

What can I say about Mana that hasn't been said 7563539 times already? Very little, I should think. He's the (ex-)frontman of Malice Mizer, Moi Dix Mois and Schwarz Stein.

*cough*

They list Izam as a lolita.

*cough*

Ok sorry.

It's OK, sometimes there are things so wierd that people just need to vent them in any way. Lol, Amasanin, that really is *scary*, where did you read it?

Thanks, Flowers ^^ I really don't know yet, lol, someone needs to invent teleports.. at least for inanimate objects... Not that MDM stuff is inanimate, really!

Gosh. Today was a day worth waking up
