I'm not sure because these more expensive dresses often sell more slowly. I think it would be safer to just produce more dresses per print so they don't sell out so fast and then he gets the money, not the scalpers.
But if he did that, the scalpers would soon catch on as no one would continue buying from them and they would quit... causing him to have to cut production again, which would cause the scalpers to start all over again ::meev::

Even if they are selling more slowly through these second-hand people, they still must all be getting sold (or close to it). And if the market is willing to pay these higher prices, it would make sense for Mana to raise the price to something comparable so it would no longer be worth the scalpers' while and so the profits would be going to their rightful place... right?

Well, these have been up since January:

Perhaps he should just re-release the most popular prints every once in a while, as a bonus to the current collection. I think if he re-printed iron gate he could sell almost as much the second time round as he did when it was originally released. It wasn't even all that popular back then, but now it seems to be one of most sought after prints in lolita fashion.

I don`t know what to say about MmM currently, I have the feeling the prices increased a little bit. That would be no problem but I also have the feeling that the stock got a bit lower aswell.
That`s kinda frustrating seeing as the Irongate Print was quite a long time available even on CDJapan (at least as far as I remember because I bought my Irongate easily at CDJ), the new Chuchrgate Print on the other hand was sold out in one second and well I don`t know if it ever will show up on CDJ. I know I have seen it in Closet Child Shinjuku and was aslmost twice as expensive as the original price. So I don`t get what happened there.

I love some of the new designs but there are alsop often designs I don`t digg recently :(

Lilly, I think it might seem the stock got lower just because the demand for MmM (especially its prints) has increased a lot in the past few years? It's the impression I have anyway.

Because I do remember Iron Gate was available for quite a while as well because I also bought my skirt from CD Japan (16000yen, if I am not mistaken). And I remember it remained in stock weeks after that before finally selling out.

Also, MmM was always bashed back then. They complained about Mana's supposed lack of creativity with his designs (and I keep seeing BABY and AP releasing the same things with different prints over and over since then), they complained about his black x navy combo (and now it seems to be the apple of many brands' eyes, including AatP's and Mille Fleurs'), they even complained about how tacky and over the top iron gate was! And I will refrain from mentioning what Sweet Lolita became here (note: I have nothing against it, I am just stating a fact).

Personally, I am not very fond of prints in general. They bore me too fast; iron gate is the only MmM piece with print I own and I only wore it twice since I bought it (2005). And I already considered selling it, but just can't. It was my first MmM piece. Also, with people's obsession with his prints in the past couple of years, arch print and iron gate became two of the most coveted ones on the lolita community. So I am instinctively clinging to it.

But like you and Geisha very well said, I have seen both these and other famous MmM prints at Closet Child. They had a sale back in July and you could see almost all of his prints for 'reasonable' prices (30000-40000yen, nothing like 85000yen; whoa, I am impressed). I even remember looking/touching those pieces and wondering how they would sell really fast if CC had put them at their website.

But some of the newer pieces are there right after being released as well, like Mana's floral navy dress from G&L Bible 33. And it makes me believe some people might also buy these clothes for special occasions/photoshoots and then sell them to get another new release.

And then it's just like a snow ball: MmM produces a few pieces, people run to buy them, they sell out, people enjoy them for a while, resell for a high price because they are rare, fans obsessed with the idea of owning such famous prints are willing to pay even higher for them and so on… And that makes me happy I don't wear EGL.

Gosh, long comment is long. Sorry!

Yeah and that actually makes no sense. Why lower the stock when the demand got higher?
Maybe if they keep the stock low poeple hurry to buy the print and it will be sold out deffinately. If there is a lot stock people won`t buy it fast and it will be in the shops a long time. At least that`s the only weird reason I can find...

Ah yes I also bought Irongate back then. Stupid me I got the long skirt so of course I didn`t wore it that much, and I still regret selling it

I that the benefit of lowering stock (or at least keeping it at the same level) even when demand increases is that, well, it becomes more 'special' to have it. People start to think "oh my goodness, that's so gorgeous, but it sells out so fast". they look for it all over and complain about it and more people find out,and it creates even more demand. these people would then watch the website, hoping to more things of this print, and might fall in love with a different piece and buy that as well. so by keeping the demand low, it makes people want to own it more... which would make the brand more 'important' maybe?

this is a pretty interesting question. any econ majors here? xDD i might go ask an econ teacher tomorrow. might be fun~ and maybe we'll come up with a legit answer?

I imagine part of it is Mana's relative desire for a steady cashflow rather than infrequent big sales. Resellers (in any industry) often price things outrageously and just wait for the richest fool in town to eventually wander in, but a used clothing shop/bookstore/whatever is often just the owner and maybe a cashier lording it over a room full of miscellaneous merchandise, so the expenses are low. Mana's got people to pay on a regular basis, ads to buy, promotions to do, etc. He can't skimp on that stuff while he's waiting for The Big One, so it might be more practical for him to price his clothes to move.

I am surprised nobody posted about this here yet:

To celebrate MmM's 10th year anniversary, Mana will be doing a secret meeting at Christon Cafe in Shinjuku where he will escort people. 200 tickets will be available at Kera Shop Angel for those who purchase something that costs 21000yen or more starting from September the 26th.

Also, 5 of the most famous pieces from the brand can be reserved starting from tomorrow (September the 19th).

Details at the MmM official website. :)

Personally I wish they had reissued the gobelin skirt, pinafore and coat from the first collection.

I think it's funny that MMM has suddenly become famous for its prints. Traditionally it has been synonymous with understated elegance and only occasionally released a print here and there. I guess they still have to get their heads around that development.

I like the short nun dress a lot but I really can't pay 47 250 yen on it... D8 not now anyway.

I also think they reduced the stocks to make people want the items even more... it also probably makes people hurry to buy something they like, and as they are afraid it will sell out they don't think twice about it and just buy it... If all the items were available longer, people would be more tempted to wait longer to see if something better showed up.

I think Lempicka is totally right!

About the new items, I really don't like the dress with the bleu cross, it looks like a nightgown to me XD
I like the nun dress a lot, about the EGA cape, it's really kitch but I like it, the coat isn't really original.
it's interesting to see that all this items aren't SOLD OUT yet.
I don't think they chose the best items for this re-edition :/

They added more information about the event this Sunday:

※撮影写真のお渡しなど詳細は密会当日にお知らせさせていただきます。

We'll have another chance to take pictures with Mana (10 people this time). It seems he really enjoyed taking pictures with us, I am glad. There are no details about the lottery though. And since there is no memorial pack this time, I suppose we will be chosen according to our ticket number?

Anyway, there are also new items up today at rakuten, including some pieces that were on the last Bible.
