Saw some guy on fb with a fat stack of mm promo tapes. He said nothing was especially new but it's still kinda fun. They'll be posted to yt channel VisualFlowerArchive once they're transfered.

I'm curious if those are "infinite loop" tapes or what.
Is there some manufacturing trick they use to do that? The only promo tape I ever came into possession of was for Oddworld: Abe's Exodus that my sister dubbed from the original for me.

I don't know if they really work that way or not, but I've seen some of those store videos that are only like 5 minutes long, and did those TVs hanging from the record store ceilings really rewind every 5 minutes? You'd think that would trash the tapes and/or heads pretty quickly.

Hold music for small offices really did work that way, they'd record Kenny G (or perhaps non-Kenny G music) onto an infinite-loop cassette and when they put you on hold they'd just drop you into the line where the tape was already playing.

It seems they may still be doing it that way given how crusty some of the hold music I have been subjected to over the years has been.

I've never considered it, seems like a mystery waiting to be solved.
