@Cerceaux :b

@ fox well, still better than my job XD I guess, I should start writing a book about my co-worker.... jezzz

@ faith That might be an idea, but I am not sure whether they hire people full time, I guess it is always for a short time... but it sounds like a good idea.

@ PE Thank you so much! Your explanation helped me a lot! :D

I learned some things like screen writing and editing (both digital and tape), it was not too complicated, therefore I think I can relearn it quickly.

I'd love to work in an archive, restoring movies, taking care of private collections, helping to digitalizing books, movies ...

In Germany it is quite difficult to get a job in a library or an archive, because we have two different ways to become a librarian or an achrivist. One way is a work/school mix called "Ausbildung" which lasts about 3 years.
After that, you are a librarian (and a public officer). The MA is quite new in Germany and sometimes Germans do not know what to do with it. They sometimes are less likely to hire people who "just" studied.

Besides that, I am a bit worried because of my "gap" while being in Japan. If I apply for jobs, it might be negative, since I made a long break between my master and my bachelor.

With the other degree.. I thought of working as a researcher or working as a lecturer, or at least something related to Japan and China. But I guess that might be difficult. The pro is, that I could combine it with my experiences in Japan... however, they do not offer internships (at least they do not seem to have good connections to companies ...) therefore I think you are right.

@ PE and flowers
Hm I want to get a job that is a bit more secure and less exhausting than teaching, however, I do not want to work in a supermarket and so on. I'd like to improve my chances for the job market and it would be nice to have a more or less secure job. There is something els, but it is too early to talk about it. I guess there are many talks, I have to do with somebody.

Oh, and by the way, you guys were right about the lunch with my co-worker. I think she has a crush on me ::meev::

@ flowers the second degree would not cost me a lot of money. I could stay at my parents house and might have to pay 400 Dollar per month for rent, books and tuition... If I take the film way, I might get financial aid from the government and only have to pay half of it back... that means it would cost me maybe 2-3000 dollar. The first one is a bit more expensive, but mostly because of the living expenses.

Come on, was that ever seriously in doubt?

Well, it also costs you the money that you would have earned if you spent the time working, the career advancement in that time, etc. This is why I'll probably never go back to school. ::kisaki::

Hmm normally women don't want to date me...... neither do men ... (unless they are kinda crazy XD)

Hmmm I get your point, but I would like to be able to get a "real" job instead of asking people whether they like cake and coffee. There is no career for this kind of job, unless I study and become a University teacher... but I guess, I am too unconventional for this. ::kisaki::

OMG I had an interview today at the NYC Department of Corrections, in their equal employment division. I had such a good time and I had a panel of three women asking me questions. I felt natural and as though I didn't even have to "fake" anything. At the end of one answer I even said, "I could go on forever about this." XD

I felt great and now I'm scared I won't get it XD I REALLY ENJOYED MYSELF, OH NO!!!!

The main woman said that I might have to do some administrative things to help out, and if that's okay with me. She said it in an apologetic way, which I thought was sweet, but I said, "Oh it's fine, at LatinoJustice they asked me to move and reorganize their whole law library because they were moving offices. I just do what I need to do to get the experience! Don't worry!"

I'd be doing research and stuff and even talk to inmates and even go to Rikers Island! It pays $18-20 per hour and it's part time, which can give me lots of time to take classes and do nerdy things.
But it just seemed like a nice place to be and I enjoyed all the officers everywhere I went. One escorted me to the office where the interview took place and said not to be nervous!

Oh man, I really liked the place XD Well, I'll keep applying to other things just in case...

But let me tell you, the building was in Queens and looked so foreboding when I looked it up on the internet. There's nothing nearby except a huge cemetery. "Here lies Adela, the greatest intern who ever lived." But now I know how to get there easily and it's actually a pleasant above-ground subway ride along with a two-stop bus ride.

I had no idea how to get back to the train station. As I said, there's hardly anything around the building except the highway, houses, and a cemetery. I was at the bus stop but buses never came and every taxi skipped me, I assume because they wanted to pick up people at the airport, which was just a few blocks away.

So I just used my map and walked all the way back in the rain to the train station next to the highway, next to the cemetery, even though there was no sidewalk and just that metal railing with wet dirt and trash. I walked next to the entire cemetery and I liked glancing at the tombs. It was an adventure! I finally made it back to civilization and rewarded myself with Burger King (which was next to the fire department and a precinct).

I told Richard how I'm interviewing there and he said, "Wow." XD I know, everyone seems to go, "Wow" when I say that, haha! I can't wait to see him on Tuesday. I'll be attending the Domestic Violence Conference Monday/Tuesday (YEAAAAH) and then I'll go off to see him and eat. ::squee::

You're welcome!

That's how I feel about Mandarin, haha! I learned a lot but now I'm remembering all of it. It's good to keep your skills handy though because you don't know when someone may need them.

In Germany it is quite difficult to get a job in a library or an archive, because we have two different ways to become a librarian or an achrivist. One way is a work/school mix called "Ausbildung" which lasts about 3 years.

Would you do the Ausbildung? @.@
Besides that, I am a bit worried because of my "gap" while being in Japan. If I apply for jobs, it might be negative, since I made a long break between my master and my bachelor.
If I'm understanding this correctly, I wouldn't worry about this unless you were completely a dud throughout your gap. You've had jobs during your gap so you're not a dud. By dud I mean someone who did absolutely nothing with themselves. But you've had work experience so it's not really a "gap." I think as long as you can show that you've kept up your interest and did things with your life it won't be a negative in the way you think. You can also spin your experiences in a certain way to fit what they want too.

People go back to school all the time to get another degree and have jobs in between them. Sometimes it's because they're not sure of what they want to do or its because of finances. My mom and Richard (just two of many I know) went back to graduate school to further their careers because they knew after a point that they wanted better jobs in those fields and they needed an extra degree. A lot of my classmates are older students who went back to school after working a certain number of years. Some of my classmates attend the evening law school program so that they can continue working and get their degree at the same time.

One of my friends Ting Ting is also going to law school this fall after a couple of years working and it's so that she can move up in her field and have more options. I just see this move as going after what you want and taking the steps necessary to get there. Sometimes it entails going back to school XD

I don't know what the application process for your schools are though, if you need to take tests or do a project. Maybe you can even take on a simple job or volunteer work such as "docent" for a gallery to show you're into galleries. The China Institute here has volunteers giving tours of its exhibits for just two hours a week so that's why I thought of that.
the second degree would not cost me a lot of money.
This is actually really awesome XD I live with my parents too so I understand the pros of living with them while getting a degree, haha. If you get financial aid for it that's even more super awesome! That's like NOTHING compared to the usual cost of a law degree, holy toledo! They all sound pretty cheap!

Yeah, like I said before, the other one seems tailored to get you (or at least try) a position in the field. Actually, what seems interesting the Filmkultur one (if I understand correctly) is that you can create your own project so you actually have something in your name, like a portfolio. And you get an internship so it mixes work and study. Then you can grow it from there. Then you can say to people you meet, "Why yes indeed, I did this archival project at my Masters degree program and I also have work experience" etc etc etc. (You don't need to include the "Why yes indeed," that's just me talking.)

Maybe you should ask people from the university degree options what their students end up doing or any questions you have. Then you can get a better understanding of what they do for students because maybe they do have programs you're unaware of. Then you can judge better! I'm sure there's an admissions office or you can reach out to professors who are teaching the courses for their input. If you want to be a lecturer about China and Japan those university degrees seem better suited for that sort of thing!

You can look up people on LinkedIn who graduated from any of your options and see what they're doing now and you can try reaching out to them too.

Now off to finish my paper and go to the gym because I've been a potato for far too long.

@ PE congrats to the interview. I think it is a quite good sign that you enjoyed yourself.

Good Luck with your interviews, I am sure you will find an internship quickly.

Oh, I know that as well. I did not learn a lot Mandarin, but I still can understand and read some of it.

Hmm I guess it will take too long. After the "Ausbildung" I need another one... all in all, I would have to go back to school for 5 years. oO Damn. (There is a special internship? trainee program following the "Ausbildung".) I guess I just try my best overseas after my degree.

Hm, true.

I want to apply for part-time library jobs or for jobs at the University library (they mostly have student jobs there).

I know. I checked online how much tuition fee I would have to pay for a degree in America... holy sxxt... oO That is very expensive.

In Germany (and most European contries) law degrees are free of charge.

True, and I love silent movies, especially German Expressionism. Since I can get an internship at a place that restores them, this would be great.

I just started sending the Universities messages with a couple of questions. Besides that, I contacted big libraries, film institutions and so on. I think, I wrote about 15 mails over the past 2 days.

Good Luck with your paper and have fun at the gym.

One of the wonderful things about YouTube is the amount of older films being uploaded for a mass audience every day! Highly recommended films are of course The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu, and The Golem. Phantom is very strange but quite good as well :) From Morn to Midnight is intense and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I still think it's worth watching! The sets are kind of like those of Dr. Caligari, but turned up to 11.

Some modern German cinema still carries the intense shadows and rich black and white that modern Hollywood cinema has parted ways with. Wings of Desire comes to mind. It was made in the 80's, but it's visually spectacular! When you don't have color in your pallet, you are forced to be creative with how you use shade and shadows to create the mood. I couldn't imagine some of these films being in color, and adaptations just fall flat. (See City of Angels for a good example). When Tim Burton filmed Ed Wood, they were doing color tests and someone asked, "What color were Bela Legosi's eyes?" At that moment, Tim Burton knew the film wouldn't work in color and they resolved to shoot the entire picture in black and white, really capturing the look and feel of B-films from the 50's. No studio wanted to touch it because no one was interested in black and white, but they paid so much attention to the finer details of the shades and tone when the film was actually made that it received rave reviews for the art direction. Martin Landau also won an academy award for his depiction of Bela Legosi!

(That being said, when Universal went back and actually hand-painted frames from the Masquerade scene of Lon Chaney's Phantom of the Opera for a rerelease, that was magnificent!)

I have the feeling you'd also enjoy the Swedish films of Ingmar Bergman. Try checking out his '58 film, The Magician. My father introduced this one to me by saying, "This film was really bizarre. I think you'll like it." I'll say the same to you. ;)

Thank you and good luck to you!! I have another interview for another place coming up on Thursday, EGAD.
My friend shared this job posting for the Asia Art Archive in America:
http://www.aaa-a.org/programs/position- ... ordinator/

I finally went to my favorite cafe/restaurant with Richard! We first went to a restaurant, but then we both arrived late so it would take too long so he suggested this Swedish place an avenue away so we can have at least a nibble on something. We got there but as he ordered (while I saved us seats) the person told him that they just stopped serving their brunch menu so all we could have were all these other things, like desserts.

http://www.fikanyc.com
It has amazing desserts. They even had PRINCESS CAKES. But what I really wanted was this giant chocolate pastry thing. And BALLS OF CHOCOLATE!
(I might just order a custom box...)

I said it's okay, I'll just get pizza afterwards from Bergdorf Goodman (not the big restaurant, but the smaller one on the lower level) as real food. (I haven't had it in a while anyway.) He said we can go to my favorite pizza place and eat there and I said, "OMG I've always wanted to go there with you!!! ::squee::" Really, it's been the stuff of my dreams.

I don't know why it's not more popular, but it seems as though it's kind of a secret. There are only 2 or 3 pictures on the internet of it too.

So off we walked to my beloved pizza place, Good Dish at Bergdorf Goodman. He's never been to GD before (he was getting his haircut on the 9th floor of Bergdorf anyway) so I led him through the Beauty Department which was on the lower level. When he saw it he said, "Wow!"

I had such a great time with him XD He got a salmon salad which he thought was delicious, he thought his coffee was great too, and my pizza blanco with arugula was amazing as always. IT IS JUST SO GOOD. I just want it EVERY DAY. We made each other laugh the whole time and he was silly. I don't know why I'm continually amazed at how supportive he is. He makes me feel as though anything is possible.

We also talked about grading curves, which he didn't understand why I found them to be lame (he hears this complaint often) until we compared different scenarios and he finally understood. I'd rather have a curve in a class of 100 with 10 people getting As than a class of 9 with one person getting an A, which is my Fundamental Skills class XD I'm sure we'll all get OK grades but it seems hard to give someone an A when we all start out with different levels and how do you quantify "client interview skills" anyway. That's the only one I'm kind of iffy about when it comes to my grades.

Then I whipped out our favorite coffee-flavored chocolate out of my purse and he thought I was so sweet and broke it up for us and we nibbled away.

SO CLOSE TO FINISHING THIS PAPER I CAN TASTE IT AGHHH. FOUR PAGES AWAY. It just takes me a while to research things and long Spanish papers take a while to get through ;_;

So...what do you all think the chances are that Dubrovnik is full of weirdo G.O.T. otaku?

@Shazzner - I would LOVE for girls to be interested in me! Dudes do it all wrong. Some guy almost walked into me on the street today because he was too busy checking me out :P
For those who are confused by this situation, just to make it clear, that's really definitely not the right way to do it...
And it is probably especially wrong to walk into a girl, knock her over, and then keep checking her out as you step on her, so don't even go there.

Why, is that where they filmed it? I know nothing, John Snow.
But I figure if we made it through "Star War Movie Place" without incident, you should be fine XD

Damn squirrels don't know how to check girls out either.
What's this would coming to?

Believe it or not, I think Game or Thrones is bigger than Star Wars now.
There was an article on how, on the day of the new G.O.T. episodes, porn sites reported a 4% decrease in traffic...
Now I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but 4% = 4 million people. Meaning that they have 100 million visits per day lol
That's what? 1.5% of the world population watching porn at any given time? XD
We'll see.

If you have a chance you should, especially if your local theater is playing it during Halloween with a live organist. It's a very cool experience!

I've seen one episode of GOT, but I really didn't get into it... Judging from what I've heard though, it does get pretty adult at times, so maybe its viewers still factor into that 1.5%?

I've read all the books, but I bought season 1 of GoT last year and I've only watched 4 episodes to date.
The books are great, but the show tries to shoehorn in extra sex and naked hookers whenever it can, and at the point it's at they're going to be making up new storylines because they already passed where the books left off.

Yay filler episodes. Coming soon: "Game of Thrones Jr High!"

All of my friends watch it and read the books, even my mom.
I've tried both and just can't get into it.

Anyhow, it turns out that when it comes to Dubrovnik, it doesn't matter if there are tons of weirdos running around pretending to eat their ice cream like dragon hearts.
Even they can't ruin it.
The entire old town is a Unesco World Heritage site, and it is gorgeous.
Croatia is one of those somewhat overlooked vacation destinations that really ought not to be overlooked.

I just had a moment where I was reading this paper about informal small Peruvian businesses by this man. I was reading fine and understanding his criticisms and then he wrote, "Far from being reservoirs of entrepreneurial energy, they are swamps of backwardness." XD I was like what and then I looked him up and saw he went to an Argentinian university and I said, "No wonder, he's from Argentina."
Cerceaux wrote:

SQUIRREL!

I was talking to Elisa, one of my old high school friends, for hours last night until 1AM. It was so much fun XD She's the only person from high school that I still talk to. I used to be in a trio with her and another girl, but she said that she's tried reaching out to her to make plans and just to talk, but the other one says she's busy or whatever and would never initiate on her own. She said it made her feel bad, especially because she's known her since elementary school, so she stopped initiating and they haven't spoken since.
Elisa said she can't believe that I'm all the way here and I still call her while the other one lives in the same city and hasn't, aw XD (I just reach out to Elisa because the last time I visited the other one I felt awkward, like I couldn't relate to her anymore.)

She's going back to school to get this other nursing degree to specialize in anesthesiology so then she can be that type of nurse. I can't imagine studying all the chemistry she does XD Ew... I like that Elisa is doing things like that for herself. She's always been a nerd.

She asked if there were cliques in law school, like "popular" people type ones. I said there are cliques but it's mostly groups of friends who once they're in a group they're in a group. I've led a mostly solitary life and choose my friends to hang out with (which expands on its own) and what events to go to.

We talked about one of our classmates' Facebook posts that she makes about her boyfriend. They aren't the usual types where it's a special event or celebrating or showing you're doing an activity together or the occasional proud/lovey dove one. She makes a ton of them and has these hashtags. They center around how good-looking he is and how amazing he is and how he gives her #extraordinarylove #everyday. (Really, that was one.)

She also makes statuses that are kind of anti-woman and she was even called out for that. She's not being overtly sexist, but it's like she puts down women for not getting a boyfriend. She'll say WHY they don't have one. Or she'll say something like how strippers aren't worthy of respect. That stuff rubs me the wrong way. I feel as though she thinks because she has "the title" of girlfriend (her words) she's looking down on everyone and giving them advice on how to attain her godly status.

So I narrated my favorite status of hers to Elisa (it's public so anyone can see it) and I could barely get through it without laughing hard:
My #MCM You were always right about one thing: people will see you how they want to see you, no matter how much you improve. And as someone who witnesses it first hand, I get it ✔ People don't understand growth. In order for them to understand, they would first have to grow themselves. 🙆 People don't comprehend age. But I do. As someone who has watched you hit your lows and come back up for the last 5 years, I see the real P. â￾¤ I'm aware of the lifestyle you had to give up to become the man you are. I'm aware of the hours you dedicate to becoming better each day. I'm aware of when you go to church. I'm aware of when you go to work. I'm aware of when you donate to the less fortunate. I'm aware of the past friends (and dead weight) you have dropped over the years because they weren't contributing to your growth. I'm aware of the tears, the hours of uncertainty, the hospital visits. I'm aware of them all ðŸ˜￾ðŸ˜￾ðŸ˜￾

Why? Because I've always been there to be your rock, before the pics, before the hype, and even before my title. 👫 And I'm still here. To be your supporter and your #1 fan. I love you baby.💓 Noone could explain your growth better than the person who lives it with you, everyday. If I didn't feel like a queen boo, I wouldn't be leaving ass dents on the thrown you prepare for me daily 👑. So let em roar baby ðŸ￾¥. They hate to see a man progress. They hate to see a man happy. They hate to see a man living. They hate to see a man smile 😌. But man oh man, I love it boo 💞. Always have, Always will. As Kevin Gates says: "Wise men change. Fools stay the same" 👌 and if growth was a person, I thank God that he allows me to wake up and look upon its face first thing every morning before I leave for work. 🌞 #MCM #MCE #RealGrowth #RealMan #RealGoals #Goodmorning #TheDontLikeStability #ILoveYouMyBaby #AndThatsAllThatWillEverMatter #HappyMonday
If I didn't feel like a queen boo, I wouldn't be leaving ass dents on the thrown you prepare for me daily --> My favorite line. I'm going to have to use this one someday.

Elisa was dying and said she found a new source of entertainment. She also told me that the girl in question was "talking" to this amazing guy while he was in a relationship with another girl and got an abortion and Elisa thinks it was from that guy, if she remembers correctly. I knew about the abortion but I never knew who was the father.

Elisa told me about her boyfriend's drama at work because of a hellish nurse he's worked with lately. Her boyfriend seems like a really decent guy! Elisa asked me for updates because we hadn't spoken about Richard since 2014 XD I guess because Elisa and I usually end up talking about school, nerdy things, and where we're going in life. XD

Anyway, I said how I actually came across something I wrote in 2014 a few months after we started talking about how while we were having dinner on 46th and 8th avenue he said he wants something long-term with me because I've stirred up a rare longing in him, but he wasn't sure if I felt the same. I had a mixture of feelings ranging from "yay I do!" "that was easy!" and "how do I know he's not going to be like those lame guys SOMEONE TELL ME." I felt fearful and it was hard for me to express certain things from the get-go too, even before I met him, but I think we've both grown in different ways. Now I'm going with the flow and having fun. YOLO!

#realgrowth

She said sometimes you need to go for it and see how things go and enjoy it, life is short, and I said yeah! She asked for a picture so I sent her my favorite one and she said, "Wow, he's not bad-looking. HE wanted something long-term with you and you weren't sure? XD" What a nerd. I like that she's still nerdy after all this time.

Do you have any information on the mini guitars? I came across an ad for them in a ma cherie volume a while ago and just assumed they were the regular guitars (my katakana was pretty lousy at the time) but I ended up reading that volume again the other day and it reminded me.

Do you have any information on the mini guitars?
Not really, I don't know guitars so I never looked into it too much.

OMGGGGG I'M GOING TO BE EXHIBITED THIS SUMMER!!!!

MY LEGGGGG.

The gallery committee that included the owners chose the best picture every person in the program had, and then narrowed that down to 21 photos and I WAS CHOSEN!

omg. omg. HELP! Opening night will be July 7 and I can't even believe I'm saying that XD Then at the end of the month they'll make another show that will have everyone's photos and all of mine for another three days.

Then they'll ask me for more details for the magazine and what to write next to the photos displayed. EEP!!!!

ok I have to get ready for my interview in a couple of hours ::meev::
