Oh yeah, I'm sure if she had someone else who fulfilled her needs, she'd be just as happy with them but I think it would take quite a long time until she actually forgot your scent or the sound of your voice.
When I left Ohio 13 years ago, I had to leave my cat with my best friend. I planned on coming back for her once I had gotten settled in in CT. When I came back for her a year later, she definitely remembered me and seemed a little excited (she was probably attracted to my scent or voice because she associated them with pleasant things like food or play or cuddling - trust me, I have no illusions about that, but I think this is probably the case for all animals). Anyway, it killed me but I ended up leaving her there because she was loved and well cared for and it seemed cruel to both her and her new owner to upturn her life again.
They do prefer some people over others for no discernable reason though (some people are just better at petting and playing and cuddling than others, I assume).
That same best friend always joked that I would end up one of those cat hoarders with like 30 cats but I'm cool with just 2, so I, at least, believe you when you say you only want one more. (I've said it before, but it can't be stressed enough: research how to introduce new cats to each other before bringing a new one home).
