Ugh, I just have to rant here because it's still weirding me out. ::hora::

I went to this Support Our Troops club meeting at my university, since I was the president of the one at my high school I wanted to continue being involved, and it was overall fun and I talked to the vice president about games and life. Then I asked the VP, "Do we have a facebook page?" And she said yeah, but no one really maintains it. She said she hardly goes on facebook. So I guess that means no one can do it then.

She took pictures of us (with her cellphone) during the meeting and I asked, "Are we going to put these pictures up on facebook?" And she said that she normally DEVELOPS the pictures, saves them, and uses them to put on a poster board for Club Fest-- WHICH IS NEXT YEAR. I was thinking "WTH" because I have no idea why no one would post these pictures of what we're doing anywhere, but save them for an entire year. ::zetsubou::

I kept saying, "I think we should post these somewhere!" And this other guy goes, "Yeah, I think that would be good publicity." kasfhksdjf

At the end of the meeting the president asked her how much they made during the bake sale and she said $34.

...

$34.

OMG. Dude, I was making hundreds at my tiny, poor high school! We even had field trips and sent a bunch of care packages. She said, "I think it was good for four hours." ::hora:: I realized that she was the girl sitting alone at a table I passed by because I had no idea she was from Support Our Troops. No sign or anything. The president replied that they need to make a new strategy because their budget is tight (I don't know what they spend money on other than pizza/coke and some supplies.) It took me a ton of strength to hide my mad Peach face.

I'm surprised you even made $34 at that notorious bastion of anti-American Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist-Obamaist thought you call a "university" ::ash::

Signed up for the JLPT (level N4 ::meev::) in December. That ought to give me some motivation to study Japanese, right? XD
Oddly enough, the best book I could find for my study purposes is trilingual with Portuguese ::meev::

The way they talk just bugs me. It's like they've accepted their fate as a small penniless club or something, when they aren't doing anything! And this is suppose to be for a good cause, geez. ::erm:: I first joined my freshman year, and they had around 5 people (I didn't have time to get so involved though). Now they're at like 10 members who I suspect are the president's friends because they're all Jewish (except for the VP).

OMG I was putting clothes in the washing machine just now and this Indian woman comes and said she just forgot her laundry bag so she wants to squeeze through and I say okay and then she goes, "Are you from India?"

I'm like "no" and she asks me if I'm from two other countries that I didn't get the name of (both ending with an A), and she's like "Oh from here then?" And I'm like "yeah."

That's it, I'm getting plastic surgery or something ::meev:: GOD DSFIDSFIJDS

EDIT: They're screening Disney's Snow White this weekend at the Lincoln Center for it's 75th Anniversary! ::squee::

I see no problem with this. You can study Portuguese at the same time and kill two birds with one stone, you know, when they try to trip you up in the test with random questions in Portuguese to keep you on your toes

That's awesome that you're taking the test though! Good luck!! ::dix::

@PE: It's ok. No one ever thinks I'm from the USA either.
It usually goes England, Germany, Poland, Russia, Italy and then "So where ARE you from?"
No one has ever guessed the USA.

What would plastic surgery do though? Then you'll just have people going, "So are you Indian and is that your real nose?"

Ok fine ::meev::

@Faith: (I don't say "I'm from the USA." I usually say that my family is from Peru.) I think it's kind of different though because since you're white you can pretty much be anything (from USA, Europe, Australia, Russia, etc), but since I'm brown I must be Indian. It's always Indian. Pretty much only Indian people talk to me this way. :P

I just saw The Prince of Egypt and it was so fantastic, I don't even have any words to describe it. I haven't seen it in forever and totally forgot the intense scene where all the first born children die and the parting of the waters. Wow, it was just amazing. I was like, "O__O" the entire time, sometimes even teary-eyed because of how amazing it was! I can't get over how they combined the CG/hand drawn art for the waves during the parting of the waters scene. The whole movie was so well done. They don't make movies, especially animated ones, like that anymore. It was just great and took the subject matter seriously. It was just WOW.

I cooked my first real meal ever!!!! I'm so happy because it came out so tasty and just like what my dad makes! :D

Its not THAT odd, considering there are so many Brazilian-Japanese people in Rio. I follow a guy like that on instagram(who lives in Japan) and I always talk to him in Spanish and he replies in Spanish/Portuguese.
I LOVE Portuguese, Im so bitter about the fact im not better at it. ::weepy::

I dont really remember any instance of people outright guessing where I'm from but I remember when I went to NYC in '08, I was like "THIS IS IT. I WILL PRACTICE MY ENGLISH FOR ONCE!" because I pretty much stick to Florida usually but then I went to NY and EVERYONE SPOKE TO ME IN SPANISH. E V E R Y O N E.
I was like "DO I HAVE A SIGN ON MY FACE?!" hahaha, cuz I wanted to practice my English but its like everyone just KNEW I was Venezuelan/latino. hahahaha.
But they give you better service thou cuz hanachan spent like 10 minutes trying to ask a waiter the closest way to the subway and he got ignored and I coughed & said in Spanish "excuse me" and I got directions in 10 seconds flat. XD ::meev::

I don't suppose anyone wants to be facebook friends. But if you do, I'm finally using it again, kind of! It would be nice to get to know people off the forum since some of us have known each other for close to a decade now.

@Ka - Did you hear about the early 90's when the Japanese government tried to convince Japanese Brazilians to go work in Japan since they needed more labor? Then they tried to kick them out a few years ago :P
I always found it strange that I'd look someone up with a Japanese name in my company and they would actually be Brazilian.

Yeah I heard about that from Debito, before I got sick of him XD He really went down the tubes of annoying irrelevance, it's a shame.

I guess it's not so strange if you're from South America, I mean, Peru had a Japanese president for forever ::gaku:: There's a ton in Peru and I have a bunch of Japanese relatives in Peru and in Japan.

Speaking of Japan, I can't believe Wang Jingwei, from the Guomindang party, betrayed China and went to the Japanese side when Japan was practically taking over China killing everyone, Nanjing Massacre, etc. WTF, I got so annoyed in class today because of him, that's just disgusting to me. :P
(I know it's not so black and white, but I hate it anyways.)

I'm glad his tomb now is marked as "traitor" XD I mean seriously, the Guomindang and the Chinese Communist Party were actually working together against Japan even though they hated each other and here goes this guy taking land with the Japanese and doing all that stuff. God. I mean, I know he hated the CCP, but those are still your own people, I can't believe he would praise Japan and want China to submit to a foreign power.

I can't wait to finish reading Mao's essay "On Protracted War" about the bleak Japanese situation, I can't even imagine what that must've been like. People marching all the way to Chongqing with Chinese treasures from museums and libraries on their backs to save it from the Japanese. Wow!

Why not? That kind of stuff always happens during wars. MissuMana could probably speak to this more than I could, but during WWII there were plenty of French who signed up for the German army after it took Paris, proNazi newspapers, etc. It was basically proNazi, proVichy (part of the right), and Resistance/everyone else, which lead to political parties working together who normally wouldn't...like people working with the communists. They rounded up the Jews and all that too.

And then after the war they, and many perhaps innocent women, were hazed or tried for it. It's just part of war.

Of course it happens all the time (Benedict Arnold), but I don't really care about other countries ATM, and I hate traitors in general so I have to speak out against this dead guy I jut found out about. Ugh, so gross, I don't even understand that mentality. Especially with the Japanese invasion that was terrible to begin with, WTF. I had never heard of Wang Jingwei before and I'm so glad I have now!

My friend was like, "I'm glad you're getting upset on behalf of all the Chinese ::meev::" XDD

BECAUSE HE'S A TRAITOR HIMSELF!

(you're so right though, omg XDDD)

AM I INDIAN UPDATE: This girl I've become friends with lately, she asked, "Wait, where are you from? Like ethnicity?" And I said Peruvian and she's like, "Oh! I thought you part Pakistani or something like that." I tell her about my "Are you Indian?" troubles and she said that it's not a bad thing and pretty cool to have an ambiguous face. Hmmmmmm~

I donno. I just came back from talking to my professor about my guilt over not totally believing the Black Legend XD My dad is actually in awe of Francisco Pizarro and I was brought up with cool stories, so I always took a middle ground with the whole thing. We talked about all sorts of things in the end, it's cool to talk to someone who's been there and knows so much. ::squee:: He couldn't answer my "Why is it said that Peru is the greatest defender of marriage?" question though XD This will forever be a mystery ::batsu:: XD

The hammer and sickle collar buttons are a great touch.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about sex offenders suing to be able to celebrate Halloween. I know not all are rapists/child molestors/etc. (I think?), but still.
