While drinking a nice glass of green tea I found myself reminiscing on Snoop Dogg's 2004 smash-hit single 'Drop It Like It's Hot' and it suddenly occurred to me that at some point there was a guy that had to translate all of the gangsta rap lyrics into Japanese for the domestic releases of CDs.

I'm sure it beats translating electronic appliance manuals. Someone had to do that too.

My last translation work was pro bono french->english for a colleague, for an exhibition held by the French kendo association on the history of marial arts in France.
She gave me a bottle of homemade spiced rum as a thank you.
I've been pouring it into my coffee and no one can say anything because I don't care about their opinions and they know it.

Yeah, but that is fairly universal and straight forward.

Take these lyrics for example -

From the depths of the sea, back to the block
Snoop Doggy Dogg, Funky, yes but of the Doc
Went solo on that ass, but it's still the same
Long Beach is the spot where I served my cane
Follow me, follow me, follow me, follow me, but don't lose your grip
Nine-trizzay's the yizzear for me to fuck up shit
So I ain't holdin nuttin back
And motherfucker I got five on the twenty sack
It's like that and as a matter of fact [rat-tat-tat-tat]
Cuz I never hesitate to put a nigga on his back
[Yeah, so peep out the manuscript
You see that it's a must we drop gangsta shit]
What's my motherfuckin name?

Like, who was translating this stuff back in 93'? How did a Japanese person even get the inter-linguistic tools to comprehend "Nine-trizzay's the yizzear"?

Well, we can't all translate psychological inventories you know, someone has to do the grunt work.

Take these lyrics for example
You can't just leave that there without telling us how they did translate it XD

Honestly, I didn't know what 'Nine-trizzay's the yizzear' means either. Had to google it.
But if this is an official release, they may have had contacts on the US production side who spoke snoop.

So yeah, did they get them right?

"'93 is the year" for those of you playing at home.

I have no idea, but I did find these photos so it does appear that the label did go to the trouble of translating it.

Oh no,just no. I can deal with global warming and Putin-induced inflation, but not anal beads and AI.

Redbubble has some pretty interesting related tag suggestions for Malice Mizer

I have a problem. Well many. One is that Hanachan is being BORING because of WORK STUFF.

Another one is that my new company wants me to provide casual photo of myself with a brief introduction paragraph...
I realized I have no appropriate casual photos of myself. I'm either making faces or doing something weird.
None of my friends have any either aside from like, group wedding guest photos, or ones they took while I was distracted.
...learning all the stuff is already hard; why does this have to be so hard too??? Imma get fired.

It turns out there's a jrock song with an alternate spelling of my name as the title (same pronunciation).
Of all the obscure, ugly names out there, I'm a bit surprised anyone thought of this one.
Maybe it's cause of the trans chick. Apparently there's a fairly well know trans actress who ostensibly chose to be called that.

"Egburt" is one of my favorite songs, in fact.

Hush. I would have told them my name if I wanted them to know it. Way to be intrusive.

Finally heard from my local Juka-equivalent that my new car is ready. It's been sitting at the dealership for a month waiting for a software update before I can have it. Probably runs Windows 11.

Have I already expounded on how all car dealers seem to have tragic backstories, not just Juka? Because they do.

Still my favorite though. I can't find it, but there was another great review that went something like.
"We saw three moose. One was standing and another was standing and one was drinking water"

Have you ever actually gone on the Moose Tour? XD

I was actually considering going up to the White Mountains last year to escape during the first summer of hell, but it seemed impossible to find anything up there that wasn't a dilapidated hunting cabin. Presumably to hunt moose.

Nah. Why would I want to drive up and down a deserted New Hampshire highway in a bus with Elwyn the psychopath and a bunch of strangers, all to see some moose? I can view my cats just fine at home.

And so can all of you. Check my lovely pic <---

(another review said that he was so upset about not being able to show them any moose one night that he sat in the driver's seat in a daze while an old guy almost fell down the bus stairs)

The white mountains are worth it. Yes the hotels are cabiny. But it's not like you'll be spending much time in them. They're not that much cooler than not in the white mountains though.
