Lately I've been getting severe connection problems with the forum, and I know it's not just me. The thing that bothered me.. is that two members besides myself who I spoke with had connection problems with their messengers (me and another on AIM, and one other on Trillian) at the same times which I found extremely strange. This all seemed to start happening after the forums started to go all crazy. So I was wondering.. do you think it's possible that someone has hacked the forum?? It would be possible to then get users IPs and mess with their computers itself.

I was having connection problems lately, and everything else loaded fine except scape. I didn't have messenger problems, though; so maybe it's a server hiccup or something?

As far as I can tell that hasn't happened. The connection problems seem to be of the "too many connections at once" type.

I haven't had any messenger connection troubles though.

Anyway, I have been taking precautionary measures. I took a complete backup of the forum a few days ago. In case the forum really does go down for a prolonged period, I will put up information at http://www.scapeforums.com until we can restore it. (that's why I got the domain, in fact - for that kind of situation)

Unfortunately I can't do anything to investigate the actual problems we've been having, since I don't run the server. That's Lejun's department.

Glad to know that's all it seems to be.. it was a bit strange to me that three people were having connection problems on messengers too. Kinda weirded me out and I thought "maybe it has to do with the recent troll problem..?".

I had some AIM hiccups too. I would randomly just get disconnected for no reason.
I think that's just because AIM sucks ;)

Anyway, I encourage you all to pay a bit of attention to the "number of users logged on" indicator on the forum main page. If you see it go above 30 or so, contact me.

36 Guests

EDIT: 43 Guests now, and counting.

SECOND EDIT: It reached over 54 before it started to go back down.

Holy crap, this is weird.

I had some connecting problems yesterday, but I thought it was just my computer being super-slow. :?

Maybe people hate us or something....

I know that on some parts of google they use flash for some things, and it causes perpetual reload untill google signs you out saying you have a virus when it's really a flaw in their systems because those parts of the site are still being tested. Maybe that has something to do with it? How that would come back on scape, though, I don't know. I just know about the perpetual message-to-server sending on some parts of google... :?

Heres something that MIGHT work...
The word of course is virus.
And lets just say an ip tries to hack out our sanctum. then shall we just...... send them a minor virus?
Im sure in the masses of people we have on board someone here has knowldge of hacking/malious computer progrmmes.

The worst is yet to come however.....

The problem is that im very serious :|

you could always either close regstration for awhile and/or have account activation so you can see if they're ip is the same before they even post.

No, you have to have an account to post. The "Guest" posts are just what happens when an account is deleted - all their posts turn to "Guest". That's why we usually don't delete accounts.

I don't think so...only three come to mind, and they're all from a while ago.

There was a recent one, and the person asked their account to be deleted. Wasn't until after we did so we realized we shouldn'tdelete except in extreme cases to prevent confusion.

Also, Amasanin deleted her own account when she left.
