I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed because it honestly feels like they put next-to-no effort in.
Yeeeeeah, this seems to be becoming a theme with Hora lately. Or maybe always has been XD This single sounds completely disappointing... I'll have to go look it up on Steal Music Tube later or something.

But hey, we can continue contributing to Hora's beach house by re-buying "New vogue children" next, right? ::cred::

I'm going to post my first impression of Succubus -2014-,

It's raw. Very raw. The vocals are drastically different from any other Schwarz Stein song in the past, and the mixing make it sound deceptively cheaper than Hora's normal production is. Kaya's vocals are extremely unique and masculine. If someone told me it was a cover by a different vocalist, I'd believe them. The "nightmare, no way" parts borderline actual screamo. It's marvelous.

The breakdown where the song gets tranquil and Kaya does his little "wooooo0o0o0o" chant thing was one of my favorite parts of the old Schwarz Stein discography- this part is perfected in this version. The entire song is extremely raw and energetic, showing a side of schwarz stein I didn't quite know existed (there's even guitar reminiscent of hora's modulate god or killing culture during that 'wo0o0o part'- ugh! melted!).

Lapis Lazuli, or whatever, let's face it, was an upbeat and just plain uninteresting single. I have yet to check Cocoon out, and judging by the instrumental it probably won't be that good, but I am very impressed by the originality of what they've done to succubus and I have very high hopes that if they can make more music with this energy and vibe they're going to have a very, very cool discography ahead of them. Then again, hora failed to perpetuate this style of music outside of killing culture and modulate god, so.

Got the CD last night and I'm listening to it right now.

I guess the cover isn't bad; it looks to me like two furry eggs in a mess of cobwebs. The picture of Kaya about to eat the egg is kind of odd, and the egg looks a little like a cotton ball. Overall, I think the cover of Hora's Cocoon album was better. (I liked that album cover, but I never thought I'd prefer a Hora solo cover over a Schwarz Stein cover...)

Cocoon - Fallen: Oh dear, I'm not really digging this track. The vocals are nice, but the music... It was one of those track where Hora found a 3 parts that sounded good overlapping each other and built the entire song around those parts coming in and out at various intervals, just like the original track. There's no musical distinction between the verses, the choruses or the bridges. I like Kaya's vocals in the chorus, especially the final chorus after what I'm generously calling the bridge of the song. I *think* I can hear Hora providing deep background vocals on the final chorus, but Kaya has layered his voice and it sounds pretty nifty. Still, VERY little effort on Hora's instrumentation. I think they were trying to go for a "Kuro Ageha" vibe with this song, but they really missed the mark.

Succubus -2014 Mix: Right away this song has more energy than the original. The drums are a lot cooler and the new synth part is very good, though you've already heard it if you've seen the live DVD. Hora adds his own death voice echoing Kaya's "Nightmare!" during the chorus. The guitar is pretty cool and this song has a much better structure, so it's easily the best track on the CD. The original was never one of my favorite tracks from New Vogue Children and I like the new additions to this one enough to say that I prefer it to the original.

The verdict: I don't think this CD is necessarily *bad*, but it's nowhere as good as some of Schwarz Stein's past releases, demo tapes included. Instrumentally, Cocoon has so little going on and it's so repetitive (even by Hora standards) that I found myself zoning in and out during the song. Succubus has some nice new parts, so I guess the CD was with it for this, but this would have been a better A-side than a coupling track. ::gaku::

And just think of all the other Hora solo tracks they have to work with for their coming singles and albums! ::shifty:: You know you can't wait for their next stellar masterpiece, "L.E.M. -Illusion-! ::hora::
(just kidding... But I remember at one point Gensou made a vocal cover of L.E.M. and sent it to me and it was really cool.)

*EDIT*

Anyone notice how they haven't even uploaded the cover art onto either website yet? Not on Hora's, not on Schwarz Stein's... Even Gebet got more attention than this single...

Hey, thanks for the scans
I listened to the sample and I think I agree with Faith on this one, it isn't really bad. I kind of like the sample of "COCOON", even. But as always with Hora's stuff, I guess the real question is if it goes anywhere or just repeats.

Anyone managed to translate the lyrics yet? Also I ordered the re-release of NVC so I'll update if it comes with anything different then the original (but I doubt it will).

Oh, and there's a new SS single out in November too.

I thought "Lapis Lazuli" just sounded like a new Kaya solo song and not a Schwarz Stein song... I did like it especially after reading the lyrics. But, my expectations were a little low for this sounding like classic SS.

I think this release feels more like Schwarz Stein though it is obvious that both Hora's compositions and Kaya's way of singing have changed over time. I like how "COCOON -Fallen-" builds up slowly in the beginning. Similar to "Fester Love". It is lacking a strong melody and is in need of a bridge or something different added to it cause it is basically the same progression of notes all the way through.

The remix is cool. I like the subtle changes.

Oh sorry, I'll do them this week. I've been on a rather heavy vacation schedule...
