I think anyone can do anything if they want it badly enough... Anyone who wants to be able to draw, will be able to draw. Practice won't make perfect, but it can get you awfully close. ;]

and even if you can't draw, it doesn't mean you can't create beautiful paintings/drawings... there are quite some famous artists that actually can't draw at all. or some styles don't really need much drawing skills. imo most art is about the thought you're trying to express, not just how it looks.

Like who? o_0

Some styles don't require drawing skills (abstract art and the like), but all art needs good color theory and composition to really work. Any style hat dwells on real objects, no matter how stylized, generally is better executed by someone who knows their realism. And every style of drawing becomes easier once realism is mastered. You can't manipulate reality if you don't know what it looks like, right? I've been having that argument with ameteur anime artists for years. ;]

Expression and creativity are essential to good art. I frequent a lot of art communities, I've seen some AMAZINGLY skilled artists that can render things with perfect photo-realism... but they're -boring-. But then I see other artists that lack skill but are full of tons of awesome ideas. Those are the ones I like to watch. Super-skilled people with no imagination bore me, and really creative people with low skill upset me, and then excite me if I see they're trying to get better. I'm hard to please; I need both excellent skill and amazing ideas to be really impressed. :] Technical skill isn't everything -- and it's quite sad when some artists get hung up on it and let it stifle them -- but once you are able to merge technical skill with creativity... to me, that's what makes a really -good- artist.

people like mondriaan for example, i'm not sure if it was particularly him who couldn't draw too well, but during art history my teacher said something like that... it's late and i can't think too well now:P
but i guess you understand what i was trying to say, a picture can look almost like a photograph but without any message/emotions in it. in holland we call such things "kitsch", it's just for decoration and that's it. also, a picture that's (intended to be) very ugly can still be a good piece of art.

The one with the cat is so Tim Burton. (yes, a good thing.)

That is exactly what I was about to say before I read Navate's post! Great Tim Burton touches, I love them both and especially the vampire. Keep it up, and keep the forum amused :D
