I think it's great that he brings together all those different musicians! Kinda reminds me of S.K.I.N...

Amatsu wrote: Well, if you go by his concert performances he is still somewhat Visual. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OytRTwfHDv0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb09f7toflU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfCxeEvFc9w I guess it depends on what people expect when they hear the phrase "Visual".
my basic definition of visual kei is, japanese or not, but any sort of band/musician who takes into account the visuals as well as the music (performance art anyone?). usually intertwining the two. Gackt does this.
I think that's a little too all-inclusive these days. Sure, it orginally meant something like that, but definitions change and visual kei is a scene now, specifically in japan, but spreading to a bunch of countries because of the internet. And I think it's a lot more specific then that. For instance, tons and tons of bands take into account the visuals as well as the music in their performances and images, but they're not a part of the visual kei scene and may not know anything about it. Also, I'm not debating, because this has been debated before so many times. I'm just putting my opinion in.
You here a preview of Gackt's newest song in this promotional video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck2FFbRI ... r_embedded
i almost teared up. Gackt really loved MM and the intro before he sang au revoir went along the lines of "a long time ago.... there was an amazing band. with amazing members....."
Amatsu wrote: VK's *been* a scene, though, and no one in Japan really notices that people OUTSIDE of Japan care, or even know, about visual kei, so if you're going to go by the majority of the people IN the genre DEFINING the genre, they'd almost certainly not think of any other place besides Japan. Only bigger indie names like Mana's, Hizaki's, and a couple others, actually have the cash to go and explore outside of their own doorstep, and I reckon they only represent about 1.5% of the VK scene as a whole at *most* in comparison, so really they're the abnormalities to an otherwise very exclusive sub-culture. ::kisaki:: As for gackt doing MM....I have mixed feelings on that. Mana must be rolling in his office chair, personally, wondering where he gets off thinking he's got the right, but perhaps it's Gackt's way of publicly trying to reach out to his old friends since he's too nervous (knowing how he left the band) to do it privately and personally. Whatever his intentions, I hope it works out for him. Goodness knows pretty much everyone who's ever heard of gackt in japan never knew he was ever in a band, let alone a VK band (mention of which brings giggles to most japanese girls, I've discovered), so if he's slowly starting to drop hints that people need to do their homework, I'm all for that, too.
