Thanks for this link! This time he sounds more sincere, at least.

Personally. I just think he was being honest, but at the same time I think he needs to back off a little in some sense.

As for guitar, its kinda mixed. You and Chacha are ok. They havent dont anything that makes me wowed. They have some really cool sounding parts, but nothing ridiculously technical (though maybe Im spoiled by Deluhi and Versailles)

I could definitely see Mana and Kozi being harder to work with. Actually all three of them. Gackt, Mana, and Kozi seemed, by that interview to have all different directions they wanted to go and it shows in all of their solo careers. Personally, Gackt wanting to take them worldwide would have been a good idea imo. Mana doesnt really seem concerned with America even now. They've been to Europe more than once. And Kozi seems like he just wants to stay in Japan.

I completely agree with you. Gackt was being honest. That is the way everyone should be. I also feel spoiled by listening to bands like Versailles and stuff. It makes me feel like other bands and musicians arent as good, but i have to remember that not all bands want to be virtusuo players.
Gackt's guitar music is really good i think, but not amazing. I was so biased when I first heard "Speed Master", i was like this isnt fast...but i have grown older since then.
Mana and Kozi and do seem like they would all be really hard to work with. That is probably the reason why they are all the leaders of their own solo projects. Kozi just seems like he doesnt care and just wants to play.
Too bad Mana isn't more interested in America...
I think you are pretty much dead-on about everything you said. :)

What he says about Kami and composing seems kind of dubious. Dude, you wrote one stinking song, you weren't an expert.

I don't see what you mean? Gackt had a lot of songwriting experience even before he joined Malice.. in this same interview he says that even some of the songs he released after he went solo were written when he was about 19.. like Etude, Love Letter, Death Wish, Illness Illusion, Asrun Dream and Emu ~for my dear~..

The only song he composed for Malice Mizer was le ciel, so that was all I was aware of. And even that was mostly arranged by other people (didn't Mana actually arrange the Merveilles version?)

Well, there were his piano songs too. But speaking as someone with a working familiarity with piano, they were nothing to brag about.

I like this interview, because it provides a believable and acceptable reason for him leaving. And obviously it would have been difficult for him to come out and talk about their technical abilities and dedication to learning their instruments being the problem during the time that he left. This is something that can really only be said years later. I believe him too.

But clearly he wasn't so level-headed and articulate as he remembers (he called himself their "mediator", after all, and said that the other members couldn't articulate how they felt but he was able to do it for them) if we take Jihaku as any indication. "They were greedy! ::gaku::" "They made fun of the fans! ::gaku::" in contrast to the other members who gave a very sage, thoughtful interview explaining their perspective of what happened.

I think it's interesting to note how Mana and Kozi gradually started picking up their guitars more after he left though. And Mana is a better guitarist now than he's ever been. Maybe Gackt did eventually show him the light ::meev::

VK fans do make fun of the band members too, you know! If VK were to be taken seriously, both sides would take it seriously, but things being what they are, let's all have a good laugh together, right?

Gackt just lost lots of points in my book.
Idk, maybe I'm the only one who got this, but to me he seems like he's acting like I was the glue that held the band together, and that I was just overall the most invested member in the band, and that's just retarded (all political-correctness aside). :|

I read it as "I'm dedicated to music and they weren't, hence my success."

I agree that Jinhaku was very confusing, maybe because he was still not quite confident to talk about it, and this is only Gackt's version of what happened. I am not saying he is liying, but in order to have a fair view, we would need all the members versions... and even then,we would not know who is telling the truth. Also, remember that in Jinhaku Gackt was not only talking about the other MM members, he was also talking about MM's management.

I think gackt and malice mixer and friends need to solve their differences on a sleazy day time talk show. :/

somewhere except here... ok, a clue... Mexico
i don't want to sound like a fangirl.

but in my very much personal opinion, it's not fair Gackt devaluates Malice composing/arrangements/performing (visually and live instruments) techniques at all, since Malice is one of the best bands i've ever met. I think they experimented and played a lot with so much things musicaly and visually. I'm not saying they were the best musicians ever. But for sure i find way much more interesting Malice Mizer works for ages than Gackt solo work. (maybe it's all about tastes)

So i don't think Gackt was "the daddy" of everyone in malice, nor musically, nor about discipline.

Bara no seidou was made withouth Gackt. Memoire was made without Gackt. and these are more than pure awesomeness.

Anyway, it's Gackt's opinion and it's always respectable. But i'm not agree.

*going away with my fangirlism >_<*

thank you for the link ^^

Good point.

That interview severely irritated me.

I agree. It is interesting to see the different priorities that Gackt apparently had compared to the other members. However, if that's the attitude he had towards them then I am not surprised that things didn't work out between them. He comes across as rather patronising.

I agree that technical skill is necessary to a certain degree, but I never got the impression that MM were hampered by any noticeable lack of skill. I also think that technical skill is not a substitute for creativity and originality of thought, which MM had in spades (more than Gackt IMO, whose solo stuff is pretty conventional compared to MM). You can be a virtuoso and still be unoriginal and boring.

Not for their purposes, no. For Gackt's purposes, on the other hand, I can see how it would.

And I also find Malice Mizer to be more listenable than Gackt, though I would welcome more technical skill had they brought it to the table. I can see it from both sides *shrug*

Okay, so I've mentioned numerous times that I'm really far from being a Gackt expert, but I do like some of his stuff. I have Mars and that's pretty good - Vanilla is like the catchiest song ever - but then I listened to Moon (I think?) and it was pretty much nothing but goddamned ballads. Ballads make me angry.

So I'm looking for recommendations. My favorite Gackt song, hands down, is Redemption. Tell me what other songs of his sound like this because I don't have time to sit through like 10,000 of his recordings to find the stuff I like.

Thanks in advance.

If by that you mean his more rock sounding songs I would recommend, Nine Spiral, Zan, Secret Garden, White Eyes, Dybbuck, Seven, Jesus, Lust for Blood, Cube, Maria, Uncontrol, and Papa Lapped a pap lopped.

Yeah, I meant the more rock/less wussy stuff.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check those out.

You must be listening to the wrong Moon album, because there is only one ballad type song and thats Fragrance. All the other songs are either faster rock/heavier songs or pop rockish.

Yeah, I wasn't sure which album it was, I just remember trying to listen to an album other than Mars and being irritated because there was an inordinate amount of ballads on it and I wasn't that impressed by the non-ballads either.
