I'm not sure if I would really call it a poor job. I can tell he tried to sing it, but I just don't think he was the best person to sing that song. I don't know much about being a vocalist, but his voice didn't really seem to fit Bel Air at all. I enjoyed it nonetheless, although it could have been a lot better.

Actually I didn't mean that to sound so harsh

I did enjoy it of course, I really like Kamijo and it's amazing to see him on stage with MM. Bel Air is my favourite song so I kind of expected more? My friend said he was definitely better on the first day of the show. I was way too emotional to remember clearly, but I loved it then :P

Jesus Christ, dude! Right for the jugular! Though I won't deny my less-than-awestruck disappointment with Mana's bored/wooden performance during the MdM set, the playback audio during portions of the MM set (ex. Ma Cherie, etc), and Kamijo hamming it just a *little* too much (adorable as I find his enthusiasm, his antics do get a bit tiresome).

Buuut, yeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.... Let's not start drama again about what should and what shouldn't be shared freely online, unless it's older, rare, no-longer-profitable material within the confines of this and similar communities, hmm? About 98% of international MM fans became fans because of torrenting, link-sharing, and scanlations of decades-old material. Can't we just all go back to 2006?

To me, it just sounded like he needed to do more vocal warm ups :p his voice and stage persona seems to fit Gackt-era Malice Mizer better now than it would've back then. I wouldn't mind if MM released an album with Kamijo on vocals...

finally got my copy early this morning. brief thoughts on The Blu Ray

Moi dix Mois - seems their last live recording was the Dixanadu tour DVD over 10 years ago. I wonder if Mana felt nervous after not being in front of these many cameras in such a long time. Beast Side is boring as hell. They all have ugly costumes except for Mana. Not a single song from D+Sect...(their newest album)... Malice Mizer covers were nice enough. Overall kind of lack-luster.

It kind of feels like Mana geared his song selection more towards attaining new fans than pleasing old ones. Like he wanted to convert the Malice Mizer fans in attendance who maybe never gave Moi dix Mois a try. Maybe that's why he stuck to old songs like Dialogue Symphonie and Solitude.

I must say the lighting is pretty rad compared to all the older lives.

ZIZ - (edit: meant to say) COLORS is a pretty solid song. Seraph was shocking. Kozi's vocals soar rather majestically and everyone seems super into performing this song. definately one of the highlights of the whole concert. It was very inspiring seeing Kozi sing the song he wrote for Memoire all these years later.

    MALICE MIZER -
In most songs the guitars are more audible than in past live recordings which I appreciate very much. And Mana, despite years and years and years of playing songs well below his skill level (Moi dix Mois), can still play all the old Malice Mizer songs perfectly!
The costumes are really great. Fresh and new but still very true to their established aestetic.

Do you think maybe Sakura could have dyed his roots before filming this hugely important concert?

Shuji is not my favorite vocalist but it was clear he was trying his best to fit his voice into the songs he sang.

Illuminati was fun. It was shocking to see Mana's old illuminati guitar come out. I was not expecting that at all. very nostalgic indeed. I still don't understand why he only ever used that guitar for this one song.

Apres Midi is beyond perfect. The addition of Mana playing the guitar makes it 10x better than the original version which had remarkably less guitar. Kamijo did a great job singing this too. This is one of the brighter jewels in this concert for me.

Bel Air clearly wasn't written with Kamijo in mind. he does a better job towards the end though. They really jam out here and it's clear they have something very special.

I never heard of Moran until this concert but Hitomi is very handsome I kind of have a crush on him. His voice is the clearest and I think he does the best job as vocalist in this concert.

Au Revoir made me cry. How cool is it that they did an instrumental? I really like it. Kozi's guitar playing is better here than in the merveilles l'espace DVD.

Ma Cherie was the best song they could have ended on. And that glitter streamer explosion was so cool.

Years of being free have done Kozi a lot of good imo. he seemed to be enjoying himself a lot more than he used to in the earlier MM days.

I really hope time and this performance has helped them move past whatever problems they were having that led to their breakup. This hiatus has gone on for long enough. They all looked so happy when they left the stage.

The synth is also used by ZIZ, where it IS connected :p
Plus it has a Thrasher sticker on it. I doubt that would be Mana's.

Imagine Mana putting Thrasher stickers on his gear, not in a million years ::meev::

Yeah you are right there aren’t even any cords plugged into it. it’s just a box. They could have at least tried to make it less obvious :P i guess it’s part of Mana’s charm to blatantly not give a damn and just take your money hahaha
At least he played the hell out of his guitar. I was half expecting all the songs would be super simple (on guitar) like beast of blood and gensou rakuen or no guitars at all like kagami and gekka no yasoukyoku.

Weren’t they supposed to do tsuioku no kakera? I remember reading that they were rehearsing that.

^^DAMN, that's amazing. I don't think I've ever seen this one before. I wonder what other songs weren't included in Merveilles L'espace? Is there a comprehensive setlist floating around anywhere?

The sans retour 1992-1998 photobook has the complete setlists for budokan and yokohama i think, i'll flip through it again and post it when im back in my room but it looks like whichever one is shorter is the one that was recorded for the DVD
also when i do find them, ill make a separate thread for the two setlists and some info on whichever one was filmed for mle :)

Wow, that's awesome! I totally forgot that clip was out there, but it just makes me wish some of this unreleased footage would be made available one day. On a side note, has it ever bothered anyone else that the live performances of Au Revoir always used the janky synth sound instead of the incredible violin recording used on the album? It was especially weird, considering they hired a group of violin players to show up for the brief rendition of Bois de Merveilles. This time, Kozi was playing guitar under the prerecorded synth, which was a step up. But why not just ditch the synth at that point?

That janky synth sounds like it was played live during the show, by someone next to or behind the stage. It has a certain out of tune/incorrect playing vibe to it.
I noticed that synth sounding off at the end of the recent Bel Air recording, so I checked the L'espace version and it sounds almost exactly the same.....
Could they have used the same recording, including mistakes?

I think the violin sound is the "synthesizer guitar" like the Roland GR 20 (I do not know the exact model that kozi and mana used at the time)

if they were aware of the large number of fans that exist outside of Japan, they would release a DVD or BD with:
the clips not included in "Merveilles l'space" and "Voyage sans retour" along with some live ones like the one in Ville de Merveilles 12/24/97 ... surely we would all pay for that.

In my mind, it always was an effect pedal for Közi's guitar, just like some parts in Miwaku no Rooma, Kioku to Sora, Ma Cherie, Apres Midi and etc (at least used in studio recording). I mean, during Au Revoir live at MLE the wonderful violin didn't existed, it only displays a guitar that is not played with great technical development (which just coincides with the talent of Közi and Mana at that time). Anyways, we love them.

Cantavanda finally deleted all of the Moi dix Mois, Malice Mizer including DVI videos because of feeling guilty of upload the whole BD and some clips of it. You are doing the right thing, protect the copyrights if you respect Mana, Moi dix Mois, Malicer Mizer and others.

Amazing! So the label "Spy Glass Music" printed in the back of the BD really exist!

I dont think it is owned by Mana, I think they only manufactured the BD.

But I think just upload and share one or two videos from the BD on youtube is ok, not the full video.
