Mana was a terrible producer of electronic music. The production was much better on "Artificial Hallucination", which Kaya and Hora self-produced, than on "New vogue children". I think the issue with the CD is purely creative issues on Kaya and Hora's part, perhaps compounded by being recorded on a budget of approximately $10.

Well I finnaly got mine yesterday lol! I think its pretty good.. a bit dissapointed that they didnt have atleast one heavy track but I still like it. About Kaya's voice I dont think theres anything wrong with it.. its just not modified/tampered with like in most of the SS songs. I like it this way its more natural.

I finally listened to Another Cell, and I dunno, it sounds like they were repeating themselves. I swear, on Indwell -cybernated-, there's this part that sounds just like New Vogue Children. Plus Hora doesn't seem to know how to do anything but trance-y techno.

Kaya sounded alright, but reminded me of a higher-pitched Dada. But I think most of the problem is that Kaya's voice improved, but Hora's songwriting is still exactly the same. Which is a shame.

In my opinion, I think they should both be vocalists for bands.

Unless I'm missing something, AH wasn't self-produced by Kaya and Hora. It doesn't state that on the CD booklet, and there's at least one another name down responsible for the mixing of the whole thing. Hora did however say, I think, that he had more involvement in the production process of AH in comparison to that of New vogue children.

Gave it a listen: My thoughts: Not too great.

Archetype01 just goes on and on and doesn't pump you up or anything.

Blazing Darkness was sung poorly and it's repetitive and a little annoying. The drums pattern is different for Hora, so maybe it's one of those "i don't really know what I'm doing yet" sort of things.

Inner Universe sounded like a bad karaoke version of the first one.

Funerary Dream is good filler, I think. Didn't stick out too much to me, but it was pleasant enough.

Frozen Past is actually my favorite on the disc. It just works.

Re: kuro ageha, blech. I'm going to say something I've never said before and I don't expect to say again: I prefer the demo version. The end, where he goes an octave up, he can't hit that highest note. The chorus also sounds slightly out of tune.

I hate the first minute and a half of Indwell. It was a track I dug from The World, but I just don't think it was meant to have a vocal melody on it, or at least not one so uninspired. It gets better toward the end.

Archetype02 is cooler than the opening but it also doesn't really build up; or wind down, I guess it should be doing.

Hora's pigeonholed himself into creating the same thing over and over in just 3 little releases and Kaya just wasn't up to par.

Alright, I just got back from the vacation from hell and our neighbors have our mail but decided to disappear for the weekend or longer. ::kaya::

Has anyone who didn't get the confirmation email get the CD? I need to know if I should break into their house and find it!

*EDIT* They didn't have it. ::hora::

That's a bit unfair considering most of the material on "Another Cell" was intentionally recycled. If anything, the actual new material on here shows him at least trying to move in a new direction. Even if I hated the new songs ::meev::

...okay, I vowed to never set foot in this thread again but....but then no one has to read what I write. And they don't unless I'm translating. Sometimes.

With that said, did you stop to consider how involved Hora even was in this CD?

"Kaya...I leave this ALL up to you..."

Perhaps this isn't representitive of where he's going or what he wants to write, but something he wrote for Kaya to sing, to fit an image the fans still have of them.
Like, he didn't even update his site to say the CD was his. It still says his last release is "The World."

And that's what I think is unsettling about the CD.
Hora only told Kaya he liked his vocals once.
Kaya apologized for his versions of Hora's songs.

So.

And PS: I don't think Hora should ba a vocalist for a band. And he's not holding Kaya back.
And I think at this point Kaya would be better going into the Matina style perhaps.

I like the CD enough. I agree with Elec in saying that the songs were better on "The World" and the demo tape...but it's not bad by any means.

And with that, I'm off.

You're absolutly right, this is really unsettling. Of course, this all ends up leading to their personal issues with each other, which we'll never know. Regardless, I think it's probably a step in the right direction that they did end up making something together again. And I don't mean steps to reformation, because that would be almost impossible since Mana owns their old band name and that would mean going back to him. Eh, I don't know, this is just my two cents as well...but to me it just sounds like Kaya's trying to hold old ideals together, but Hora's just personally lost the will to do so...

I think of it more like they have different ideas and values, and that they're too conflicting to work well together anymore.

Kaya singing helped out Hora for sure, since the Kaya fanbase is so large.
And Kaya needed songs.

...I don't think they could really work together effectively anymore.
But I don;t think that means they're not still friends.

::shifty:: I've been avoiding this thread in general but I read this and...

Friendships can change a lot when it involves business.

As friends, Kaya & Hora might match perfectly, but when it comes to business stuff such as "how much stuffing should I put inside the envelope", "Hey Hora, what about a Cherry Blossom cover?" and "Let's sing this this way and have the photos this other way"...they might have trouble putting both of their thoughts on the same table, if i'm making myself clear enough.

The fact that they don't seem to clash well enough in this CD - or whatever people are saying since I haven't heard or gotten my copy yet and it'll be at least weeks before I do ::weepy:: - just means that as Faith-chan said, musically, business-wise, they mightn't match anymore.
But that ain't necessarily a bad thing. :)

We all grow and change with time ne?
And if after(or MEANWHILE) those changes take place, they still decided to work with eachother, I see it as a good sign that they're just eager to put out stuff (Kaya) and make sure that people will notice them when they go out and release something more on their own train of thought(Hora).

That's what this loser thinks without having heard the CD.

Those are good points. Yeah, I understand completely the whole clashing-friends deal. :P I don't think they've ever really stopped 'being friends' because they both have links on their site to the other's site, and that's friendly enough terms for me.

Yes, it was a good marketing tactic, too, in collaborating with each other again, which supports what you said about them trying to get themselves out there before they release more solo stuff.

and I haven't heard the cd yet either. ::shifty::

I was kind of disappointed with Kaya's change in voice. But hearing him do INNER UNIVERSE was just amazing.

And Black Butterfly made it even better.

I like how he sings now. It seems more.. free, and less constricted. There's still some roughness around the edges, like with lower/higher notes. But I barely notice.

I actually really love the remake of Kuro Ageha. INNER UNIVERSE is cool too.

I just got mine yesterday and I'm glad to say I really enjoy it. After the first listen my favorite track seems to be funerary dream.
