He composed for one of the other old forum members too (she was in a band with Sisen).
She never even recorded those songs and only performed them at gothy events, and Kalm was totally cool with that.

@ Berserk: Oh yes, of course Kalm knows this! ^_^ I talk often to him and he has been completely supportive in all my endeavors. And I am paying him after all, so why wouldn't he be putting his all into this? And he told me he's excited to be working with someone who wants to record in both Japanese and English. So he's content as am I. =] As for performing or marketing, I think I'll decide that as I go along. I have been asked about performing with some other bands but feel I have a little more preparation to do before I commit to something like that. But I'm definitely not ruling it out. And I have to also look at the input of my other project members as everyone's been rather busy lately. Hopefully we could perform live and market the music one day.

Ah, there's the rub ;)

I was just confused about this relationship here and why you guys were doing this, but I see now. I think it's very cool that you're in touch with Kalm and I'd like to hear of any updates about this stuff!

As a fellow Michigander, I'd love to help you guys out and get involved if you decide to take it to that level! Definitely let me know about any progress in that regard! And good luck with whichever path you choose to take. It's seriously cool beans that you're having fun with it and doing anything at all.

Thanks Berserk! I'm really glad to hear that some people are excited about this, and I'll definitely let you know if we decide to perform/market. I'm hoping that most people will like what we do and not be too critical since we're not Japanese. =] But we're doing our best to make things sound good. ^^

You'd have to be pretty elitistic for not to enjoy great music (after all it's done by KALM?), just because of the country the band is from. As long as you nail the vocals and lyrics good, I'll be sure people will enjoy it.

I listened to the samples and they sounded very promising even with not being properly mixed for vocals.

In my opinion, Velvet Eden in the Kalm/Dada era was among the greatest bands ever. Anyhow, I still hold "Street of Alice" as a unique and outstanding work of art! And Dada's voice always sounded fabulous to me!

I wish you the best of luck with this project and would be VERY happy if you would give Kalm (and Dada, if Kalm is still in touch with him) my best regards and tell him that quite a few people outside Japan love his music and personality.

And don't worry about not being "the real thing"! A good band playing good stuff is all that matters, who cares about passports and nationalities as long as they enjoy what they're listening to?

I agree 100% with everything you posted here.

The Kalm era VE was my all time favorite, not to mention one of my all time favorite bands.

I didn't like to use the word because it tends to be overused, but to me the early Velvet Eden is cult. You can't mistake them for any other band, the world they created is like no other, and totally fascinating!

And I am really happy there's a bunch of huge VE fans on this forum I can share my addiction with! ;)

Oh, I totally agree. Personally I LOVE Dada's voice and I think it fits the style of music he made. They ARE cult and the fact that he (Dada) just fell off the face of the earth, so to speak, just adds to that status.

Plus, I think he's sexy, which I know a lot of people are like ::zetsubou:: at that thought, but yeah. I think he's dead sexy!

Yeah, he's worse than sexy really, he's dangerous, and so is Kalm, in his "absent" kind of way.

But then the very name they chose for the band clearly connotes sex...

Thanks for your support! ^_^ And sadly MissUMana, I did ask Kalm if he is still in touch with Dada and he is not (though I do have a friend who met him while she was in Japan and told me a club he likes to go to XD). I must also agree with everything you both said as well (about it being a sort of cult and about their eccentric embodiments of sexiness). =] There really and truly is no other band like them in the world and that's what makes me respect them even more. They were very original and unique in so many ways. And Dada is my absolute favorite vocalist in the world because he has such a unique voice that actually takes my mind somewhere and sometimes puts me in a trance-like state (if I'm not doing anything and with the help of Kalm's otherworldly music), and no other vocalist or composer has ever had that effect on me.

Jae, Ningyo.Mana, MussUMana, your talks about Dada's (and VE's in general) awesomness forced me to change my userpic from abominable Baal from Diablo II on one of the beautifulest men in the world! Dada and ice-cream - that's what I probably like most of all in this life ::squee:: (too bad I am so lame in making userpics)
I agree with everything you said about Velvet Eden, Dada and Kalm.

Ningyo.Mana, your English being of course much better than mine, you expressed VE's and Dada's voice's incredible power much more accurately than I ever could, but I feel the exact same about it!

It IS sad Kalm is no longer in touch with Dada, because somehow we'd like to know they preserved a bond after sharing with us such a unique artistic world...

Thanks a lot, and all the best to you and all involved in that project, including Kalm of course!

K-kun : Ahahahah! I'm sure Dada (if he reads scape) will greatly appreciate your effort and sacrifice at changing your avatar to this unlikely but "interesting" creation!

Hmm...I'm not sure if he sends out signed photos or not, it's something I could ask him though. XD He's very shy, but so nice to talk to (though his English isn't the greatest ^_^). And about performing live, he's never expressed an interest to me about doing that again (he has a normal job now that does keep him very busy during the week), but seeing as he was going to be assisting at the cancelled Art Marju Duchain revival live last year, I think anything's possible! He refers to his past bands as "jobs" and doesn't actually talk about them unless I ask him a question (and he's answered all my Velvet Eden questions without hesitation). So it would seem he's more interested in helping others in the music scene rather than coming back to it himself as a performer. I'm going to be visiting Japan here in a few months as soon as I find a good time slot and he wants me to meet with him to talk about some things, so hopefully I can get more of a feel about what his future plans might be. ^_^ We can all hope though that it happens!

I personally wouldn't dream of asking anything from him because what he gave (and still gives) us is all I want.

But I sure would be happy if you would let him know that to us Velvet Eden was MUCH more than "a job" and we admire his work and it's certainly not forgotten!
